MetroPCS phone flashing illegal ? Evidence ?

I don't know whether or not it is illegal to flash a phone to use on another carrier, but for unclear reasons the "Moderator" locked this on topic thread: http://androidforums.com/metro-pcs/546224-iphone-4-a.html

Just want to point out the following:

1. If one pays a monthly fee to the carrier, then it is difficult to believe it is illegal to use such a modified phone.

2. Ironically, the two flashed phones (both International iPhones) I witnessed were owned and used by MetroPCS employees.

Someone please provide a link or links which supports the contention that using a flashed phone on a network to whom one is paying a monthly fee is illegal. By this, I mean that using a flashed phone on a network which you regularly pay is a crime, not just a contract violation or civil tort.

Yeah I saw the thread and there wasn't any talks of someone flashing the phone themselves. I even suggested that Metro would flash a verizon phone for you.

Flashing has to be done by the carrier, but there wasn't any talks in the thread of anything illegal, or so I thought.

QUOTE FROM "jerofld": "Flashing a phone over from one carrier to another carrier without express permission and/or assistance from the carriers is illegal."

Even if the above quote is correct, the assistance can merely be the contractual agreement with the ESN of that flashed phone.

Since metro seems to be intrigued by the possibility of the iphone 5 being flashed to their service then flashing is still a go for MetroPCS.

I'm seriously considering flashing a galaxy note or a RAZR maxx over here.

It is typically not a good idea to call out a moderator on a forum. That is how people get banned.

Dang, we've gotten a bad rap and haven't even earned it! Nah... it usually takes a lot to get banned here; it's not something we take lightly.

OP - If you have a question as to why the thread was locked or disagree with it, we're ok with discussing it with you further. The first step would be to PM the Moderator who closed it (in this case jerofld) and discuss it with him. Should he not respond (or if you aren't happy with his reply) feel free to send a PM to the Admin, Phases.

Remember, this is a privately owned forum. The site owner and admin decide what stays/goes and what's ok/not. As long as you are polite, we've got no problem discussing things further and reopening threads if warranted.

Now... seeing as the other thread was locked, I'll be following suit with this one. Feel free to PM me if you have questions about this thread being locked.

Thanks! :)
