Root CM vs MIUI vs Stock

So, here we go. I want to maybe try working on a ROM...which is the easiest? As far as noob programming goes. >_> Never done anything like this before. So any pointers/tips would be appreciated as well :D

Are you looking to build from source or just edit an existing ROM like colors and icons, and such?

I think at this point, since I'm really new to any of this stuff, editing a pre-existing ROM would be the easiest way to go. That way if I break something...I know what I broke and how to fix it XD Not quite ready to build from source. I want to take a stab at editing a ROM and see how it goes.

Feel free to use anything Ziggy and I have made :)

Thanks! I'll give this a shot today throughout the day, and lets see where it takes me!

Edit: Yeah I will try a bunch of different ROMs. Couldn't hurt to be familiar with Basic, MIUI, CM7, etc, right?

Yup also feel free to pm me if you have any questions or want help with any mods :)

Just thought of something : can a rom from a GSM phone be ported to a cdma? I assume tweaking build.prop would help? Because I have an idea o.o

Yup that's how we started porting 2.3.4 let me know if you need help getting radio working ;)

Sweet deal. I THINK I know how to do that...I did it once before. I also changed apns_conf for virgin mobile...But I want to do a little bit of hardware research. Cos the motorola Atrix seems to be similar hardware to the Triumph which is on ICS MIUI. Wonder if the camera for that will work...I'll have to see! Although with my slow crappy laptop...compiling will take a while. I'll set it to compile while I sleep! Perfect!

The Atrix is an xhdpi phone (540x960 pixels) port any Rom from that would be extremely difficult i'd recommend porting from another hdpi phone (480x800 pixels) like the Nexus S which is offically supported by MIUI

Yeah, I JUST read that XD Good thing I didn't start! I'd have to change way too much. But I saw same screen size, dual cameras, same processor....Then I saw the resolution @_@

you can try the Nexus S or the Galaxy S 2 they're both HDPI phones like the Triumph and they are officially supported phnes by MIUI

And I assume that it would also need to be ARMv7 since that's what the triumph is, if I'm not mistaken?

Pretty much every newer phone or phone that is clocked at least to 1ghz (although there are phones clocked lower that have armv7 like the HTC G2) that has a snapdragon processor is ARMv7. That's basically a good guideline to follow. :)

Sweet :D I'm learning already! I think I'm gonna try porting an MIUI rom and we'll go from there. Considering I really like MIUI :D

Edit: so before I delve into this when I get home, is it safe to assume if I'm using two miui roms (one triumph, one to port) that I should probably keep the cdmasmsdispatcher.smali and apns_conf the same? Seeing as vm and mms is a pain at times >.<

OH so question. Probably should have done this earlier, but...flashable zip. How does that happen? Do I just make a zip file? oorrrrr...is there something more magical than that?
