Root I've Partitioned My SD Card, Now What?

So after searching and searching and not seeming to find I thought, let's get this subject started in a easily found thread...for I am sure it's been discussed some where in the middle of a thread and thus hard to find...and trust me...I searched!

Ok, so I partitioned my 16G class 10 Patriot SD card and assigned a whopping 2G for apps...overkill? Perhaps...but I intend on moving every single thing I can to the card...heck I'll be downloading apps just for the heck of it...why not! :D
Anyway, *fumbles thumbs*....err...what now? :cool:
I mean, is everything I download to my phone automatically sent to the card now? How about the stuff that are my phone's internal memory, can I use Apps2SD to move 'em? Does that move all to the SD or just part?
I saw something about data2sd...should I get that too or is Apps2sd enough?
I know some apps cannot be moved to the SD card and need to run from internal but being that the partition is recognize as internal now I should be able to "force" these apps to move right?
I have those large apps such as Google Map, G+, etc in mind...

Also, I have Titanium...(I thought I had pro) when I do my backups does the free one backup the stuff in my card too or just the internal memory.

I don't want to take anything for granted and then months later find out I lost a heap of my stuff because I didn't save/move the apps properly. :rolleyes:

I think you have MikG 3.11 installed correct?
Do you have terminal emulator installed?
You dont need the apps2sd app. because you will be using darktremors a2sd which moves the entire app to the sd-ext partition.
Just run in term em...type "su"
then "a2sd reinstall"

Edit: do yourself a favor and buy the pro version of tb...then you can set schedules to backup your apps. you wont regret it. I think it's worth the 6 or 7 bucks for it.

And yes, I did that su and a2sd reinstall thingy in the emulator...

No, darktremors is baked into MIkg 3.11...
So, any apps you install from now on will automatically go to the sd ext.
Go into TB and let me know what the internal memory says as far as free space and used space...also let us know what it says about space on the sd (a2sd)
That will tell us if it is doing it correct.

Edit: Just for info, this is what my TB says:
According to TB, I'm at:
System rom 367MB...45.2 MB free
internal memory on mine is 448Mb with 340Mb free
Sd card is 29.9 total with 27.8 free
Sd card (a2sd) 1.91GB total with 1.69 free.
 
dta2sd is what you should be using. It is set it and forget it. Everything is done automatically after the initial setup or ROM flash


Uninstall the apps2SD app you are using and then re-run your a2SD reinstall command to make sure that the app didnt mess things up.
 
Yeah, using DTa2sd will put apps into the EXT partition on your SD card. This is frequently abbreviated as a2sd. Apps2sd is different. It places part of the app info into the .androidsecure section of your SD. And even then, it will only move part of the app to the SD card.

The great thing about a2sd is that it puts a small symlink if your system folder and the ENTIRE app in the ext partition. Did you upgrade the ext2 to ext3? You'll want to make sure you do that as well.

And also, in my opinion, YES, 2GB is overkill. I had 2GB for a long time and never even came close to filling up 1GB even when I was just downloading apps for the heck of it. 1GB is plenty. But hey, if 2gb is what you want, then you can certainly do that.

Well apparantly you do have the pro version and that's good.
Now, go into menu/settings/applications/manage applications/on sd card and see how many apps are on the sd card.
I would transfer all, if any, back to phone.
then re-run the a2sd reinstall command from term. emulator
then get rid of the apps to sd app you have.
(see rxperts post # 6)

Edit: just curious as to how many apps do you have installed?

Ok...so I am to 1) uninstall apps2sd....do i need to do anything with it before I uninstall or whatever apps it touched will automatically do whatever it has to do.......<-boy I sure do hope others understand that as well as I did in my mind...LMAO.
2) Redo the su emulator thingy again to make sure it caught on well the first time.
3) I assume when y'all say to stick to a2sd it's that su "a2sd reinstall" thingy and since it's already n Mikg I'm basically telling that sucker to wake up and do it's job right?

I have 18 apps in my sd...
wait...I have to transfer all to phone one by one???

Edit: Correction, I have 12 apps in my SD...apparently even though it's in the SD tab if it doesn't have the check mark it's not IN the SD...smdh...I swear this phone is female....

If the apps listed under the sd tab are not checked, then they are not on sd card.
If any are checked, just simply transfer them back to phone.
Then I would delete to apps2sd app you have.
Then run the terminal emulator commands.
Then, if you desire, go into TB and run a batch to save all user apps/data.
---I dont save system apps at all in TB, just user apps/data.
-------in fact I have it scheduled to run every friday evening to do just that.

Edit: judging from your screenshot, apps are getting placed to the ext partition as they should.
 
At this point it may be easier just to do a FULL wipe and flash MikG. Anytime you flash an a2sd ready ROM now that the card is partitioned you will automatically have everything moved to the card.

Its easy enough to do a titanium batch (automatic) backup and then do a batch (automatic) restore after the flash. You won't lose data, and then you know everything will be installed as it should be.

Hmm...you may have a point.
But I better delete the apps2sd app first or titanium is going to restore everything including that.
And wouldn't titanium restore everything as was before...meaning if it was in the card or not etc?

Also, if I reinstall and do a restore, will I be able to change my main email?
This can be my opportunity to set up my Evo with the right email this time instead of my secondary (which I did the first time around thinking I would have been able to switch it later and not have gtalk affected).

Titanium does not backup the location of where the app and data are, when it gets restored the ROM will restore it to the correct partition

Copy that...unistalling apps2sd, backing up, and reflashing coming right up!

Hey Xpert, I'm not doing a VR Superwipe here right...just regular wipe in recovery (wipe dalvik cache, cache, and data)?

I would do a full wipe. Use superwipe but also make sure to manually wipe everything including SD-ext and SD-android secure in recovery.

your apps2sd app would have moved apps to the sd-android.secure sections so its important to make sure that gets wiped clean and the sd-ext is where you will be restoring your apps to so it needs to be clean

I couldn't find superwipe (although I swore I had it b/c I downloaded all of that the first time I rooted and flashed) so i just did a wipeall userdate/factory reset.
As well as the usual dalvik, cache, data...plus the SD-ext and SD-android secure
I mean sh*t...if I missed something, that'd be bananas...
anyway...flashing rom now!

System probably needed to be wiped for a "full wipe" but since your just flashing mikg on top of itself you should be OK

I used the regular Mikg rom as the one you made for me would leave the data untouched or something like that. As it was edited I used the original one.
I mean I did do a full wipe noh?
Well if anything I'll just redo with superwipe.

Shouldnt need to re-flash then

You can do either one(email or tb). Your SD-ext partition should take care of itself from here on. :D
 
Ok...now restoring.
I set up my email, redownloaded titanium, hit batch and chose to restore all missing apps and system data.
This will also restore my settings right?
Wallpaper, ringtones, the works?
