Root GPS / Navigation Issues

mecam77

Newbie
I rooted my prevail on saturday had some initial issues and wasn't to happy that some aspects of the factory settings that i liked was completly erased but found some replacement apps, so no biggie.

my biggest problem is that my GPS / navigation does not work... i download google maps and the maps work, but it says searching for GPS and can never pinpoint my location... any advice

have some other issues with connetion problems

not at all techy and to alot to follow the root instructions, by the way used Caeadas guide which was excellent

which rom are you running or are you just rooted stock??

I use 3 apps to fix GPS, based on others recommendations.

Run fasterfix and pick your location. Then delete app

Run gpsfix

This gets GPS to fix on location faster. I'm on miui rom and GPS works but after a minute of navigation is lost and doesn't reconnect . So...

I install GPS assist. I enable it when I'm going to be using GPS for a while. I set it at 1300 seconds. This keeps GPS on without dropping.

the gps fixes are they just apps i have to download??? or files i need to install on the phone...

have macbook and used in-laws pc to root so all files and drivers are about 2hrs away

maybe just stock rooted then. go to settings/applications/all and find maps and uninstall, then to store and try re downloading maps and run and see what happens.
also do you have titanium or root explorer from store??? sometimes need to wipe the data from maps too and need one of them.

apologize for appearing dense but which titanium (backup???)

Tivofool sorry didn't work download all 3 apps you suggested still says searching for GPS

Does the stock rom settings have an option to "use internal GPS". Like some other roms have that you have to check after you install?

yes titanium backup. to wipe the data from maps first, then uninstall then reload app from store.

not sure what your asking??? how would i check that and also which ROM i'm using so i don't waste your time... i know i have CTMod when i turn on the phone and before that KOuma Kernel 2.5 pops up

also go into settings/location and security and then is use wireless networks checked and use gps satellites checked. they need to be. and that is what tivo was asking??

when you started up did it give three errors in a row??????? if so if started on bottom one and sayed yes then next one and say yes and so on that solves the problem.

Yes that would make sense. When you first install the app it gives the 3 triangle errors that show up in the top notification bar. If you clear those out without selecting each one and accepting then they are gone.

So if someone would go to settings/application manager/maps .. then clear data

Then the next time you open maps it would ask for permissions again?

yes, he might have missed that and or ignored that and that might be problem!!!:D:D:D

ok so, i do remember the 3 prompts and gave permission to all 3... but just to be sure i cleared data as instructed but also unistalled maps and reinstalled this time did not get the prompts... unistalled agian, powered off and re-installed still no prompts, but my location is accurate to my address but when i ask for directions searching for GPS no navigation

How do i go back and ensure internal GPS is functioning

BTW don't know what this means but everytime i power off and come back on get message "Sorry the process android.process acore has stopped unexpectedly. please try again."

Hopefully a smart guy will read this and have some insight. My technical skills are limited. To fix issues like this where something isn't working for me and it is working for everyone else, I just backup files/photos I want to keep and reinstall the rom. Since you now have clockwork mod recovery, it doesn't take any time at all. :)

Easy GPS fix everyone should try.....

In root file explorer of choice...
Edit /etc/gps.conf
On first line it will say "ntpserver blahblah north-america.blahblah"

Sometimes it just america not north-America don't matter just depend on ur rom what it say

Change "north-america"
To
"us"

No capitols... don't add spaces... just replace with us. That it. GPS way better like magic

Ur welcome

RTLflat did download TB and ES file explorer in neither do i see anything about edit/etc/gps.conf

any other way i can each this or just be able to see or check my internal gps options

thanks everyone for trying

as long as you can put files on your sdcard you won't need a computer. So your original CTMod zip is still in there, if that is the file you are asking about. (having a computer makes things quicker, and a good place to keep your backups.) Once you put a new ROM on your phone it's good to boot back into CWM and choose the backup option. Then go about messing with your phone. That way if anything gets messed up you can just go back into CWM and hit recovery and choose the backup you made and you are good to go, just like you didn't mess anything up.

When you press your power button, choose recovery. That brings you to CWM.

From there use your volume button to scroll down to install from zip
scroll down to choose zip
scroll down to install a zip, like the one above or any zip such as a new rom or whatever.
scroll down to yes.

use the go back button on the bottom of your phone to go back in the menu.
scroll down to clear cashe
yes
scroll down to advanced
clear dalvic cache
yes

back button
restart phone

or when your phone is booting up hold down the power button and the up volume at the same time for 5 seconds or so. That will also get you to CWM.

(whenever you clear your dalvic restarting your phone takes a few minutes, be patient, it's working it isn't frozen)
