Help Upgrade to IceCream Sandwich problem

sanderne

Lurker
I upgraded from Gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich (Samsung SII). I constantly get a notification "Software update - connecting to server" (two diagonal arrows appear in top left corner. Also every now and then a popup window appears with "i Software update" "Device update succeeded". The work around I have is to set update via WiFi only and turn off WiFi. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi I have the same problem, i upgraded to IceCream Sandwich from
Gingerbread via OTA & My Galaxy s2 does the same thing...

It keeps wanting to Update & connect to server & when i try & update via the Settings it says : "Failed to Update firmware due to Network error or server problem....." It constantly wants to update but is all installed?

Try the following:-

Settings > Applications > All > Software update (near the bottom of the list) > Clear cache and Clear data

Thanks, that seems to have solved half of my problem. I no longer get the "Device update succeeded" message pop-up.
It still tries to connect but gets the message "Software update - connecting to server" but then fails to connect every time.

I have the same problem here. I tried the clear data solution but the update still runs in my notification window at the top all the time..saying "connection to server.." irritating as hell.

I have found the solution to my problem. The Network provider was issueing a proxy IP address and port number. All I did was just delete both and leave them blank. “Settings-Wireless and Network-More-Mobile Networks-Access Point Names-???” Proxy and Port must not be set.

You need to root your phone and install a terminal emulator.

Then do the following:

Open the terminal emulator and enter the following code:

# echo -n ON > /efs/imei/keystr
# reboot

That should fix it for you.

I installed the ICS in my S2 . 2 times it rebooted and after the 3rd time reboot , it doesn't starts up rather the screen stays with Samsung Galaxy S2 and the model . It doesn't moves next . Please help me out of this problem .

Thanks
Sam

Upgraded my SGS2 to ICS.
After it finished upgrading and showed me a "successfully upgraded" notification, the phone stop responding and turned off.
Since, it won't turn on again.
Tried removing the battery, performing a soft/hard reset, charging, connecting to the computer - it doesn't respond!
Don't know what else to do :/
Please assist!
Thanks.

I am also facing the same problem . Please let us know what should be done in order to get out this mess ?

Thanks

Wow!!! I am lucky!!! I was able to download the upgrade pack and then the phone reset to install files till 11% and then phone reset again asking me to take the phone to Samsung service for upgrade: this happened 5 times and finally I took the phone to Samsing: I am very impressed with ICS and the phone performance is much better. Maybe you should take your phone to Samsung Service: demand their help.

And please don't pay attention to any advise that suggests you to root or flash or use odin etc. Not worth the risk at all.

There's a risk in anything you do. Rooting and flashing can be done safely as long as you follow the guides that are posted by reputable sources.

Im sorry for hijacking this thread, but I can't start my own :(

I updated a few weeks in excitement and now all I want to do is throw my phone at a wall but resist because I know its not the phones fault it was this update!

I got the update through the phones update thing, so not through odin or kies or anything.

Problems:
My phone is constantly freezing like a computer and I have to leave it for 20 seconds or so before it comes back to life. This only started happening with the update.

I keep getting this error message that my email isn't working and it isn't. Socialhub has stopped working. I generally get that message after it has been frezzed for however long.

Why has all this happened!

Please let me know what I can do to get my phone to what it was.
I was very happy with the way it was before the update, this is just crap now.

I haven't rooted or done anything like that to this phone, its pretty much stock.
