Root Has anyone tried HTCdev unlock?

So you followed this to get it rooted rather than the newbie guide approach? There were no issues doing it this way?

Yes, I followed that video exactly. Only difference would be to use the superuser.zip from our newbie thread instead of the one posted with the video. In the video description is a link to a text instructional. You can copy and paste the commands from there, makes it even easier.

The sticky in this forum tells you how to do everything. and if you want full s-off you can follow my post in this forum.

I'm very familiar with the stickies note. Been trying since Sundays to get root that way and my computer just won't do it as it never seems to find fastboot in the cmd Window.

Has anyone else tried this with success? I'm contemplating doing this tonight or wait until a quicker method is developed. I'm not against doing this but you never know when something could go wrong.

Also, if anyone has, did you use CWM 5.0.2.1 or whichever the latest version is.

I flashed the cwm in the video and it worked fine, but have since switched to 4ext. You can replace the cwm with the latest, just change the command obv.

Hey Guys,

I just got done going through the process and I am now rooted. I followed the guide below and this thread as well. Basically just go step by step and you should be fine. I'd recommend making an HTC dev account before hand and installing the Evo drivers now because it'll make things go quicker.

The only hitch I ran into is that I tried to install the 3.0.7 Superuser first from the newbie guide but it crashed so I had to install the 2.3.6 version from the guide which as admack said, doesn't root properly. All I had to do was reboot into recovery and flash the 3.0.7 and I am now rooted.

If anyone has any questions or concerns, feel free to IM me or PM me and I'll be more than welcome to help you out.

I too followed the HTCdev website and now I'm rooted fine. The CWMR gave me a lil fit (rebooted itself over and over) but I went ahead and used 4EXT and I love it! Very smooth and all touchscreen CWM.

OK, and as many know I have not been able to get root at all using the other approach. So if I follow this video but use the signed zip from the other thread that will work? Then I could get 4ext to do any kernel, rom flashing etc without having to go into the recovery all the time? I am pleased with my stick right now. Mostly want to be able to alternative the governor and freeze some bloat right now. Also, does this approach wipe the phone?

The HTCdev unlock wipes the phone unfortunately before you can make a backup.

Do you have to install the superuser from the video first and then flash the one from the newbie thread? looks like that is how a couple of you have done it.

Wigginst, yes that is how we are doing it. Flash the video and then go back and flash the one in the newbie thread and you should have root.

George, I did mine last night with no problems using HTC Dev but mine was at 1am so I doubt there was much traffic. Only thing I can suggest is wait a bit and try again later.

do you think htcdev will list the evo v on the 10th for an unlock thats specifically for this device in the list of phones?

I chose EVO 3D (Sprint) from the drop down and that worked for me. If I had any issues with it, I was going to choose other phone.
