Samsung Galaxy S III vs. iOS 6

MattB17

Newbie
First, I want to say that I know I'm opening this on an Android forum. That being said, how do you think the Samsung Galaxy S III compares to the news that we heard about iOS 6 that was announced today. Will the Samsung Galaxy S III still hold up well when iOS 6 is released in the Fall?

Thoughts?

With the way Apple's stock dropped after their announcement, it doesn't sound like many people were terribly impressed with the new features of ios6.

The question people need to be asking is...Did Apple die when Steve Jobs did? Not trying to be disrespectful at all here, but Apple is just way behind Android. This annoncement or lack there of today was a big disappointment for iOS users whether they admit it or not.

Well if you are an Android user ios6 is not going to be anything to jump for joy about. Apple has been playing catch up to Android for some time now.

I thought it rather funny how it had a lot of features android already has. The only thing that impressed me was that Siri will (so they claim) launch apps and will work with car Bluetooth systems. However, seeing as ios 6 will not be out until later I wonder if android will already being doing that by the time it comes out.

Android voice actions has always been able to open/launch apps.

I want to see Apple continue to innovate. A competitive constantly advancing industry pushes everyone to work hard to evolve and improve....or get left behind. A strong Apple helps force Android continue to strive to get better.

However.... I am sick of the litigation tactics by Apple. That only hinders innovation which only hurts apple and android users.

Doubtful. Android still can't properly sync with your cars stereo and steering wheel controls.

And the only thing I saw that "may" be comparable to Android was turn by turn nav and 3d mapping. That said, Apple will forever be dependent on TomTom now. We'll see how good Apple's turn by turn nav is when it comes out.

And I don't care if iphone 5 or the "new iphone" or whatever it will be called is dipped in gold. You'll have to pry the Galaxy S3 from my cold, rotting, dead hands, before I get the iphone.

Apple died with Steve. No hard feelings. Pass.

Apple is doing just fine, but their "sue 'em all to hell" attitude certainly lends to the perception that they are having a hard time keeping up with their competitors, almost to the point of making them look desperate. Here's an idea, maybe they should use the money wasted on litigation to bargain for better working conditions for the people assembling our devices making 35 cents an hour on a 16 hour shift.

Honestly I was excited to see what apple had up its sleeve for IOS6 but after the announcement it was a huge letdown. Nothing that IOS6 has is really anything that hasn't been in android. Apple seems to be more playing catch up and it shows with all these lawsuits and trying to keep great phones off the market. unless they really wow people with the iphone5( or whatever they call it) I could see even the most pro apple sites lashing out again even worse than last year with the 4s announcement.

The way I see it, the people who like Apple products will continue to buy Apple products, until the "hip" factor wears out eventually. And the people who like choices but do not want to take anything less than an iPhone will continue to buy Samsung Galaxy brand. These two brands will continue to battle for supremacy. As long as they are innovating (and not just resort to lawsuits), it benefits us the consumers. :)

Great point. We don't want Android getting comfy and relaxing. Only when Apple is there to push themselves, android gets better too

Yeah they got the new maps app, but they chose to rely on TomTom? I'm an associate at a consumer electronics store and I never hear a good thing about them.

All they have done in the recent years is take Android features, make them look slightly sleeker, have less functionality, then hold a huge event claiming they've made the biggest breakthrough in the world.

Their events are full of "this is the most advanced iOS yet," and "the best computer we've ever made." Seriously Apple? I came into the day thinking you were going to tell us you were reverting all devices to iOS 2 and making Apple IIIs again! C'mon, give us something real, not this phony showmanship.

Apple stock dropped after the iPhone 4S was announced, too. Plenty of bloggers and pro review sites trashed it.

Then it turned out to be their best selling device.

Within a week of the iPhone 4S being released, suddenly all those bloggers and pro review sites couldn't stop talking about how incredible and revolutionary the iPhone 4S was. Their motivations were pretty transparent, they just wanted site traffic.

Time will tell if the iPhone 5 and iOS6 can carry the banner established by Steve Jobs without him. And I bet the iP5 will sell very well. I'm not so optimistic for the iP6. But all I care about is that Apple's bid to block the GS3 (and all Android devices, for that matter) fails so I can be happy with the device of my choosing.

Facebook integration - any app installed on your android device is automatically integrated, making it so you can share anything at any point with the app without having to be in it.

Sending a text when receiving a call - has been available in Android for a long time

Tab syncing - Have been able to do that for the past few months on Android

facetime over cellular - you can video call on cellular and with anyone on google talk, whether that be phone, tablet, or computer on Android for a long time.

Siri - Android has had voice functions long before Siri, you can open apps, get directions, google search, sent a text, set a reminder etc etc etc

Did I miss anything? :D

I would think, at least for the short future, any new iPhone will be its best selling device, no matter what it has. The stock dropped both times because innovation isn't there, and that IS something to worry about. At this point, the iPhone is a status symbol, and the next few iterations are guaranteed to outsell the previous ones. If they continue this path of litigation and failure to innovate, that might change in a few years.

To be fair, you could do all these things already on the iphone as well, with 3rd party apps. These features just weren't "baked" into the OS, other than Siri (well on the 4S anyway. Not that iOS is fragmented or anything) and maybe texting while talking. The only iphones that couldn't transmit data and talk at the same time were CDMA versions like Verizon's. Has that changed somehow?

And it's been a little while since I used an iphone, much less a non-jailbroken one, so maybe I'm mistaken? Stock iOS sucks big time. I don't know how people can stand it?

This is what worries me - as a new (about to be) switcher. Will iOS 6 and iPhone 5 make me regret my decision. The more I find out about s3 and android the less I think it will. Even people with s2s don't need to worry I think...
