Hey guys i received a text message that i was violating data terms and conditions. Turns out my account was being monitored because i am using my handset for tethering. Guy asked if i read the terms and conditions but really who ever reads that?? Anyways long story short. Don't use your phone to tether. Your account will be supervised and if you continue misuse your account will be terminated. Really what's the point of unlimited with rules like that but o well. Consider yourselves warned!!!!

Funny, ive been tethered with tons of data for over a year now across two phones, no issues
 
I guess a better question would be how they are monitoring? I mean data is data, there isn't a separate connection for tethering so how would they know the difference? There isn't any monitoring software on the phone, and I've pulled at least 4G one month.
 
I think they monitor to see excessive spikes in your data. Like if you go from lets say....1gb a month to 1gb a day. I could be wrong though.
 
I think prinny is right. I went from just using a few mega bites a day to about 5gb's a week. They must be keeping tabs on some users. I mean i did receive a message from boost saying i was violating terms....
 
Hmm, I guess I need to keep using a ton of data or they'll figure me out :D,
What tether were you using?
 
Its just called wiifii tether with a yellow wifi symbol. The link to download the app is up top so you can check it out. Anyways.... i tried to tether today and now i can't connect. It says im connected but when i open my browser... nothing. I can't even tether using pdanet. WTF MAN!! like i said what's the point of socalled unlimited data if i can't use it as i want/need

I use the original one instead of the new one but only if you have your phone rooted....
 
Are you running any roms or completely stock/rooted? B08 or B08c?
 
Dude my handsets all stock besides the root... I've tried using other wifi apps none work. Im screwed... any suggestions on what i can use to tether now???
 
I've used barnacle and root tether and both work fine. However I have found that some client adapters will never properly "identify ".. My laptop works. My desktop doesn't. Computers at work connect fine too. Good luck
 
ok guys i know my last reply to this was way back in june but ive been back online for a while now... i tried to double tether and guess what... it worked!!! i know ill probably get screwed by boost some how but o well right.. this is how im doin it.. i have the full paid version of pdanet 3.50 and i also have barnicle wifi tether.. so far my laptop has read pdanet and connects to it. second i launch barnicle and run it then connect and boom my laptop connects to both apps no problem and belive me it makes a big speed difference than using just one app.. i stream vids faster download faster and surf faster but!!! its killing my battery and makes my phone hella hot so i try to lay off of it as much as i can... go ahead try it out and see how much quicker it is :)

Barnacle is my tether of choice also, and I inconsistently download tons of data. A couple months ago I hardly used any. Last month I used about 3.5GB, and this month I'm hovering around 2.79GB so far. My Warp is my sole internet connection and I've never received any such warning.

I'm not sure if this is of any use or not, but I know in the case of my roommate, he was using EasyTether for months on his original Evo 3D, then they made the jump to Ice Cream Sandwich and Boost added a little monitor in the update to see if you're tethering or not, and he got the same message the OP did. He went to a custom ICS ROM and got no more warnings.
