Download the KFU (Kindle Fire Utility) from HERE and follow the instructions to root your Fire, install the FFF bootloader and then install TWRP recovery.

Once you are rooted and have FFF and TWRP installed you can then install the ICS rom of your choice. Personally I would choose THIS rom since it is the most complete and customizable one out right now.

If you have other questions feel free to ask.

Just picked one up tonight. Looks kind of difficult to root but completely worth it right?

I actually tried everything and was unable to root the tablet running the new software :/ mac and windows 7, let me know if you succeed and what method you use. I think my trouble came from driver installation.

Has anyone had luck with the newest software? Is there a good guide to fastboot and adb anyone would recommend?

I rooted mine using Kindle Fire Utility 0.9.6 on Vista and it was a fairly easy process. It took a couple of hours but it was worth it. The only drawback was Kindle Fire Utility was supposed to load superuser onto the device during the root process but it didnt. So, i sideloaded it from pc after the root and used file expert to launch the download and boom, DONE. Hope this helps.

How to Root - Kindle Fire 6.3 & 6.3.1 - YouTube
this is pretty much the process i followed. He also has a video tutorial on sideloading apps that was very useful.

I've been pming a guy on XDA. He said to get the drivers installed, install twrp, install fff and done. Not to even bother with the option of installing root.

rooted my 6.3.1 KF last night with KFU on Win7, pretty simple process. Had to revert to stock state though. I could connect wifi, but not surf. Installed Go Launcher the Play Store, could surf, but was agonizingly SLOW. Reminded me of the good ol 2400 baud days.

Did you try a custom rom at all? IMHO any of them are better than the stock kindle setup. I am currently on Glazed ICS and liking it quite a bit. Also the Gederom is pretty good.

I haven't had any wifi issues with them.

No, I thought it best to let the thing age a few months (just got it Sunday) before I mess with it too much and brick it. :) Not that I'm all that worried about it, but.

Will try to Root it again tonight and see what I get. If KFU leaves wifi issues with try the other method.

Well if you already have twrp and fff no need to root again.

Yeah, it looks like a factory reset did the trick. Reloaded Superuser and extra's. Everything is golden. woot woot!

I believe I made the mistake of keeping the device plugged into the pc while I installed the drivers. However, device manager does not show android ADB installed? Yet I am unable to get KFU to see the KF. Has anyone run into this issue and do you know a way around it?

Thanks

-edit-

Installed the device drivers from 0.9.5 and that actually worked. Now time for more reading and getting a better rom on the device.

Pretty sure the device needs to be plugged in to install the drivers. Does it show Android phone --> adb composite device in device manager?

Now it does. I just had to read a bit further... I installed Glaze ICS and that rom is brilliant. I only wish my LG Spectrum could have something as nice as this!

Awesome!! I ran it for quite awhile but I'm on to jb now which has been pretty good. Sometimes it seems smoother, sometimes it doesn't.

I am thinking for a first ROM Glazed will be good. There are a few things that are quirky but it's infinitely better than the stock setup. For $90.00, this is now a very competent tablet.

I am joining in the conversation.
I have been desperately trying for hours to root my Samsung Galaxy Tablet SM-T330NU without success. I have set my tablet for USB Debugging, as required, and I have tried a number of rooting apps, without success. With all of them, the Root Checker app keeps telling me that the device is not rooted.
I am bewildered and frustrated. Is it possible that Root Checker is wrong? I had rooted a cheaper tablet sometime ago, without problems, but this one is a real pain in the ....
Can anybody help?Perhaps suggest a few other rooting apps?

Thanks

Ittiandro
