Audio CD ripping program for Windows?

kration

Newbie
I've decided to take the plunge and rip all of my audio CD's to play them on my HTC Sensation and HTC Hero (actually a T-Mobile G2 Touch).

What's the best Windows program to use to rip the CD's. I'm using Windows Media Play, which seems fine, but are there any better programs out there? My one criticism of Windows Media Player is that it seems a bit unreliable when recognising CD's.

I'll be saving the tracks as variable rate WMA's using 135-215 setting (that may be a bit of overkill but I like decent sound quality).

I'll be using either PlayerPro or PowerAmp on the phones.

It's been a while since I've used Windows but ffmpeg does a good job and if you need a gui for it use Winff it works pretty good at converting the audio over.

Any reason for encoding in WMA? Personally, I've never been too crazy about the format. I'm more partial to ogg vorbis and aac/m4a, which put out great quality at lower bitrates (needed smaller file sizes for my phone). Certainly better than mp3. There are plenty of programs for ripping CDs, Exact Audio Copy is one of the best known.

Thanks for the response. I'm using WMA as I need a format that I can play on a car stereo. WMA ssems to be the default (apart from MP3).

I'm using dbpoweramp. I just checked the site, and it says it's a paid product, but I recall installing a free limited version of it. Either way, it works perfectly.
