Root Who's used Koush's ROM?

**SIGH** because of this^^^ and a few other bugs I've learned about after perusing Cyanogen's message board, I'll definitely be sticking with Pete's. Based on the nature of Koush's ROM and the way he operates, it doesn't look like those bugs will be fixed anytime soon which is a shame because the ROM has some REALLY cool features that many (including myself) want (TRUE 3D app drawer, 180 degree rotation).:(:(

You make it sound like the issues won't get addressed. I don't know anything about Koush, don't know him personally, but this thread was started on the 11th. In that time, there have been 3 updated versions to the ROM, countless updates to the recovery system, and ROM Manager launched.

Maybe I'm misreading your post but from my POV, that's a lot of work in a week.

I have tried almost every ROM out there, not every version, but every ROM I could find, and this ROM with it's quirks, is the best ROM I have tried. To me, there isn't even a close second. Don't get me wrong, I really like BB and SS and UD and Elegance (beautiful ROM albeit...just a little more than a themed version of ESE53) but Koush's ROM just does it for me. :D

Agree 100% With every ROM (as every car, house, pc, wife, you name it) there are going to be tradeoffs. At least for me, this ROM allows me to get the most and give up the least. There are people that post "This is the greatest ROM I have ever used but I don't like the lockscreen. I am going back to my old ROM." Hey, to each his/her own.

Just don't let your wife hear that. She'll want to know all about the "tradeoffs" you've made!

Anyone else lock screen say "roaming indicator off." Says it when i pull down my notification bar to. I think its supposed to say Verizon Wireless.

Also maybe cause it's new but it seems to me that this Rom is a bit laggy.
Lost all wallpapers (except for LW)
Can’t over-clock past 1000 (I know find another kernel any ideas?)
Had the helix launcher and had NO FC at all had 3 or 4 with this one. (I know install Helix)
Wi-Fi tether gone? Not to sound stupid but anyone know where to get that .apk id like to have it back.

Now with all that said i will stick with it till it gives me problems. But if you have a answer to any of my annoying questions feel free.

Oh yea no offense i don't like my lock screen. Looks kind of stupid.

Okay, so I had said that 5.0.4.3 was no longer listed as experimental...now it says it again... I swear I'm not crazy.

I think the only things he changed (at least made available) is the new rom manager and the new Clockwork recovery.

Laggy: Do you have 7 screens? I think minimizing that to 5 or less has helped others. Also, go to the app called "Spare Parts" and all the way down at the bottom, there is a setting "Home app in memory"...I checked that and it did help. I also turned auto rotation of the home screen off so that may be part of it.

Applied both of these and we will see.

Wallpapers: Are you using 5.0.4.3? I have a bunch of wallpapers to choose from. They were missing in previous releases.

Was using 4.2 for some reason thats what i downloaded
so 4.3 is stable? If so thats a easy fix.

Overclocking: The 1.2 is pretty nice and really stable for me (without JIT enabled) Get Your Koush Overclocked Kernels Here

Checking this out right now. For some reason i think my droid runs better at 1.2 :)

Can i use MM to apply this like before?

The only thing i dont like about it is how where it is supposed to say "Verizion Wireless" mine says "Roaming Indicator is off" I think this is because im still on a old alltel plan. And Hexfussion is what i was using before so good to see a link for it.

And last but not least thanks for the reply. Some things you just dont know unless someone tells you....
Cant tell them if they dont ask right?
So i will apply all this and see what happens.

SO WHAT IS COMING IN CYANOGEN'S NEXT 5.0.5 RELEASE?!?!

CHANGELOG at eclair from cyanogen's android_vendor_cyanogen - GitHub

* Launcher2 tweaked to honor fling velocity - code by Mohd Faruq (ruqqq's Profile - GitHub) - check out more in HelixLauncher on the market
* MMS enhancements originally by rgv151, ported to Eclair by Mohd Faruq, ChainsDD, Wes Garner, and myself
* New V8 JavaScript engine - patch from Qualcomm/CodeAurora

* Updated N1 RIL to EPE54B's version, and included AT&T acdb file
* Kernel updated to 2.6.33.1 plus many patches from Google
* Orientation mode is fully controllable from the settings app now, and 360-degree rotation patch updated from Optedoblivion and Elanthis
* Trackball wake & music skip + volume button long-press track changing from metalhead8816 (Jon Boekenoogen)

* Battery percentage shown on the status bar - toggle the option in Spare Parts - patch from canadiancow (will take a battery status change for it to update after switching the toggle)
* Included rsync (thanks to Dylex for the Android port), iwconfig, and iwlist
* Updated German translations from Matthias B

Hey guys, I went to this ROM,and really don't like it. But I'm lost when it comes to installing SPRecovery back onto my phone so I can reload a Nandroid backup I have. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I didn't give Koush enough credit in my original post. Yes, this ROM is new and it has been built from source which represents a totally different ball game when it comes to altering the Droid. I give Koush nothing but props for what he has done and what he will do in the future and I'm really impressed and humbled him and all of the other developers. I understand that new ROMs are bound to have some issues in the beginning and I have no problem putting up with minor bugs but I don't feel like I'm savvy enough to be a beta tester and I feel like this ROM is still in beta mode. I'll leave that to you guys who are more knowledgeable and capable when it comes to trouble shooting and I'll hop on when this ROM is a tad bit more stable.

The ROM was out of beta 8 revisions ago, and it has come a long way. If you don't feel savvy enough to run it now, I'm not sure that's going to change. Not meaning to be condescending at all but most of the complaints I see about cyanogenmod are from users who want to flash a ROM that has everything they want already packaged in it, without having to do anything, rather than an extremely functional base and adding and configuring it themselves. There are plenty that accomplish the former, but if you are willing to learn how to troubleshoot and configure it (with help of course) jump onboard.

5.0.5 is about to drop in a few days, which will fix the MMS and cell standby issues, enable app2sd, and some other stuff. So if that was what was keeping you from trying/keeping it, just check back for this revision and see if it works for you.

Cheers

Use DM updater or download the sprecovery image and place it on your sdcard. In a terminal or an adb shell:

su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/sprecovery-filename.img
reboot recovery

Replace sprecovery-filename with the full name, and once you're booted into the recovery manager, just do your restore.

I am sifting through the forum right now with ROM manager installed just waiting to pull the trigger. I was thinking the same thing. What if I don't like it? I honestly just don't want to deal with that. And I'm not too keen on doing a data wipe either...

As posted above, you can use DM updater to get back to SPRecovery pretty easily (just as easily as you will install Clockwork). Don't be afraid of a data wipe...just do a Nandroid Backup in SPRecovery first. You familiar with that? Then if you don't like Cyanogen...flash back to SPRecovery, load your backup and it will put you exactly where you are today.

Are you using Titanium Backup or similar program to back up your apps, email configurations, call logs, txt msgs, ect? You will want to do that as well so you don't have to spend 4 hours setting your phone back up.

A personal update...

JIT had to be removed. Just not stable and causing Pandora to stop playing while trying to surf the internet :(

I didn't have any reboots using JIT with 5.0.4.3 so I guess that is good news. Also, with JIT enabled running @ 1.2 GHz, my phone scored 232nd of all devices via Linpack :p

Hopefully it will be more stable in future releases.

Told ya.

I use Pandora every single day - and it was randomly quitting 75% or more of the time when I was driving down the road for now reason whatsoever.

Ahh, well...

I moved back to UD 7.8 for now, b/c I wanted a chance to get my license file working correctly for TiBu - Joel sent me one with my name spelled slightly incorrectly...

if the Cell Standby is fixedin the next release, I will switch back..

I can add the Multimedia dock and modded YouTube from other builds

Flashed this last night and everything was pretty much like i wanted it. Except for my clock (wanted a lighter blue) so i used

SkaggzColor0.9.1.zip - IT'S HERE! Change your clock color using Metamorph!!

After re-boot phone went in to a boot-loop... This was a first for me. So after pulling battery and holding down x , i used the restore from the clockwork recovery. Now i am back at droidmod 1.0 like i was when i started.

Long story short it seems really hard to mess anything up. These guys tell you to back it up every other post. I now understand i can go from rom to rom theme to theme and if i dont like it just restore it. Just my .02 cents.

Let me make this more succinct. This Koush/Cyanogen ROM, in its current state, has certain bugs that are unacceptable for me (but may not be a big deal to others) and it makes no sense for me to go from Pete's ROM, which is literally bugless (for me, atleast). I'd prefer to jump aboard when those certain bugs are worked out. Sue me.

To be honest, if the improvements continue, I'm am almost 100% certain that this Koush ROM will become my #1 ROM because of its speed, the 3D app drawer, 180 degree rotation, and apps2SD and I will be happy to donate once it reaches that point (hopefully soon). If the next release (5.0.4.5) has all of the fixes you mention above, then I'd say it is coming closer to being that ROM.

This was exactly the point of my original post. Sure, I can "configure" the ROM by adding custom themes and adding WiFi tether and things like that. But even when I ask how to fix the HQ YouTube issue, the answers I get are extremely terse and vague (for someone who has never performed such a fix before). Furthermore, when there's a problem with MMS, cell standby, or USB tether, I can't "configure" away those problems. The only thing I can do is wait patiently for Koush to fix them and I have no problem with that. However, until those things are fixed, I'll stick with Pete's ROMs, which allow me to have a 100% stable phone. I'm not complaining about Koush or saying he's a shitty developer or that his ROM sucks (it doesn't) He, and all of the other devs are extremely talented and deserving of the accolades they receive. I'm just saying that, for me personally, the time has not yet come to flash this ROM to my phone but I can't wait until it reaches that point because I really believe this has the potential to be the best ROM out, BY FAR.

Jestexman...sorry, I completely glanced over this last night. I wasn't intentionally dodging your questions.

5.0.4.3 is listed as experimental but that's the version when I noticed the wallpapers returned.

Yes, the HexFusion theme is Metamorph. Some of the other themes have to be applied in recovery so just pay attention to the instructions (I have done the "why the hell is this not theming...oops" thing before!).

WiFi Tethering working for you? I didn't have to change anything...just installed it and I was good to go.

As for the "roaming message" on your home screen...I KNOW I read something where you could pull a file off of your phone, change the text and upload it back....but I can't find the damn link anywhere. Can anyone help here???

No one should be questioning why you are flashing to another ROM. Damn, if I had to be loyal to one rom...I'd have pissed of a lot of people by now! I'm sticking with this rom cause I feel the potential just like you do...I just want to see the progression "step by step" with this one. One comment though...you know you'll be back when Apps2SD is working! :)
