Ahh come on... Don't you want another month of messin' around on the thread with all of us? haha

Sure, why not? The sad part is, I don't have that much else to do! It almost feels like everything has slowed down lately because of this. It's kind of crazy, since it is just a phone after all, but I want it!

Oh I know man, it's getting quieter and quieter. Maybe this PM Apang or the other member will have some new info. This thread needs a shot of B12 haha

YIKES! Now it appears as though either the Incredible or SuperSonic will be unveiled by HTC at CTIA, but not both.

All I know is that if Verizon gets trumped by Sprint at this event they can consider my business gone for the foreseeable future.

Right there with ya. Verizon screws the pooch and doesn't release a truely high end phone by the end of May when my contract is up and I am gone.

If anything this article is saying the Incredible will be announced for sure.

Being approved by the FCC, HTC Incredible is the strong contender and will be announced for sure.

If Sprint does annouce that and VZW is quiet, VZW will be the only carrier with no new news of late. That's pretty bad and not to be honest, not really like them. They BETTER have some big @ss news when they do annouce something!

Why haven't we heard about the meeting this morning. I was sure the info would already be up when I got here this morning, but here we are at noon and still nothing. Maybe he's on pacific time and it just finished (he says hopefully).

or still at work and can't get on! VZW probably isn't gonna be like, "Okay go blab this all over the internet." lol ya know?

I have mostly forgotten the details of the FCC filing for the Incredible, but what about the filing makes us believe it is in fact the Incredible and not the Supersonic? Both carriers work on the same bands, right?

Sorry if that was a stupid question!

Though it is NOT necessarily a bad business plan. Which seems like the better sales plan? Announce/release a new phone at the same time everyone else it (effectively getting lost in the pack), or standing out when the competition has a lull in news/releases?

Also, I hate myself for suggesting a later release makes good business sense. VZW corporate spies, don't read this post lol

Sprint to Unveil First WiMax Phone - WSJ.com

Edited: Added link to the WSJ article referenced in Gadgets DNA story.

I think this is just another blogger drawing conclusions from what we already know. I don't think there's anything new in there that suggests it must be one or the other, but not both -- not that I'm saying it'll be both, I do think it'll be just the Incredible. Time will tell...

No I agree with you. But I don't think the SS will be launched, just announced. Plus nothing else of high quality has been launched except the HD2 and I think the Incredible is better than that.

Yes, but the confusion surrounding the HTC phone that will actually be announced at CTIA has more to do with the Wall Street Journal article published yesterday, I believe.

By ROGER CHENG

Sprint Nextel Corp. will soon roll out the first U.S. phone that works on a faster wireless network, an important step in the struggling carrier's effort to stem subscriber defections.
The company plans to unveil the phone, dubbed the Supersonic, at an industry conference next week, according to people familiar with the matter. It will be produced by Taiwanese smart-phone maker HTC Corp., the people said.

Just more confusion added to the already frustrating mix.

The SS is supposed to work on wimax, their 4g. VZW is not using that so I don't think the SS would work. Plus Sprint uses different frequencies I believe. Like ATT and TMO, both GSM, but different frequiencies.

EDIT: NO stupid questions, no worries! :)

Not a stupid question at all. The FCC filing was at first thought to maybe be the SuperSonic. What has it pegged as the Incredible now is the model number of the battery which has 6300 in it. That matches up to the model number identified as the Incredible.

True, I'm not doubting the announcement of our beloved Incredible. I'm just...playing Devil's Advocate I suppose. Btw, am I still the only PURCHASING customer (well, indirectly through my boss) to inquire with a VZW rep about phone releases? I can't help but feel like the business might loosen a few lips, which if there was any truth to what my boss was told, it did.

Anyway, it's dead at work. I'm gettin' ready to put the WVU game on. If I see any Incredible commercials I'll let you all know!!

Umm, not sure if I'm misinterpreting you Kappy, or if I'm misinformed, but WiMax does not equal 4G. two distinctly different things.

Could it be that whether the incredible or supersonic will be announced is a moot point? Maybe one announcement is being handled by a carrier and the other by HTC itself so HTC really will announce just either or but not both... just speculation

I thought wimax was "their" version of 4g. Sprint calls it 4g, even tho it is just faster 3g.

I am MOST LIKELY wrong lol. I apologize if I am!!

D'oh! I'm amazed no one else thought that. Excellent idea. Sprint directly announced the SS to push WiMax and 4G, and HTC or HTC/VZW announce the Incredible. Excellent thought, and very plausible.

WiMax is a type of 4G signal and LTE is the other. Kind of like GSM vs CDMA

As far as I understand it, WiMax is a large scale (read as: city sized) WiFi network that has been
employed for several years now in major cities across the world 4G/LTE are suped up 3G networks

EDIT:
Wikipedia: Wimax

Yeah, circa 2001.

DOUBLE EDIT:
Just read up on 4G. WiMax = IEEE 802.16, WiMax Mobile 4G = IEE 802.16e (think the difference in 802.11a/b/g/n, I suppose)
We were both right. What remains to be seen is which the SS supports or if it supports both.

Wiki it someone lol, you may be right, I didn't know thats what it was.

EDIT:

WiMAX, meaning Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, is a telecommunications technology that provides wireless transmission of data using a variety of transmission modes, from point-to-multipoint links to portable and fully mobile internet access. The technology provides up to 10 Mbps [1] broadband speed without the need for cables. The technology is based on the IEEE 802.16 standard (also called Broadband Wireless Access). The name "WiMAX" was created by the WiMAX Forum, which was formed in June 2001 to promote conformity and interoperability of the standard. The forum describes WiMAX[2] as "a standards-based technology enabling the delivery of last mile wireless broadband access as an alternative to cable and DSL".[3]

USES:

Uses

The bandwidth and range of WiMAX make it suitable for the following potential applications:
  • Connecting Wi-Fi hotspots to the Internet.
  • Providing a wireless alternative to cable and DSL for "last mile" broadband access.
  • Providing data, telecommunications and IPTV services (triple play).
  • Providing a source of Internet connectivity as part of a business continuity plan. That is, if a business has both a fixed and a wireless Internet connection, especially from unrelated providers, it is less likely to be affected by the same service outage.
  • Providing portable connectivity.

EDIT: I'm still not sure I know what all that means lol

Give Sprint kudos. At least they have people within the organization talking up the SuperSonic already, without poviding too much information on the actual device other than it may be announced as early as CTIA.

Why doesn't Verizon do the frickin' same thing!? What is the harm in announcing you're going to unveil a fantastic "must see" new phone at CTIA without letting the entire cat out of the bag? All of the other major telco's are talking up their latest and greatest products as part of the build-up to CTIA and get the press and tech aficionado's talking, why not BIG RED!!?? This is what I don't understand. They SUCK at marketing and promotion as far as I'm concerned!!
