I'm following up on a twitter that states that the Incredible will be in stores 4/17.

... which begs the question, why was this picture cropped? What is the name of the phone if it does NOT say "Incredible" on the lower part of the phone shown here? I mean, it has "Verizon" in the lower right, but why crop it nonetheless?

So you know my pain. This Treo 650 just isn't cutting it...

From what i've seen the shadow is coming out this summer but it will not be the nexus 2 ( end of this year w/ a keyboard whereas the Shadow will not). It's your thread so you're free to set the rules but I don't see how talk comparing the N1, Supersonic (on Sprint with a summer release) and Incredible is allowed when the Shadow is also coming out sometime this summer on Verizon with similar specs?

It's not a question of allowed at all, and it's not "my" thread (it belongs to all of us) so i can't set any rules and don't intend to. My concern is only that we're introducing yet another variable (phone) into the discussion that is already confusing to a lot of folks, especially for a phone that is nowhere near release and it's specs are even less substantiated than the Incredible.

What I am about to write is purely my point of view and not meant to be a guideline or rule, but i don't think we should even be discussing the Supersonic in this thread (in fact i think there is a thread one level up that just compares these phones). The Supersonic is an amazing sounding phone, coming to Sprint, running on WiMax, etc...

Comparing to the N1 is a bit different...this is a REAL phone, that exists, is out in people's hands, with the same processor as the Incredible is rumored to have, same general size/format, and the current flagship android device out there. Furthermore, concerns with the N1 (multitouch, 3G drop, etc...) can be legitimate concerns for Incredible users if there is reuse of hardware, drivers, screen, etc... so i think this phone is VERY relevant to compare to.

Again, no rules (for the most part) but trying to keep some method to the maddness.

Think of this thread as the "Outback" thread...No Rules, Just Right...i'm trying to put some definition around the "Just Right" part. Make sense?

Brilliant deduction!! with the name "Incredible" being so difficult to market and protect as it's such a generic word, and having ONLY seen the word "Incredible" on that cheesy, burnt-reddish plastic pre-production backplate (NOTE: no word "Incredible" to be found ANYWHERE on NKT's batch of photos that he posted last week). Call me crazy, but with NKT's hint of there being a new "Android phone section" needed here in the near future, I honestly wouldn't rule out this thing being completely renamed when it finally launches!!!!

He was talking about a new subforum for the MOTO Shadow. Not a renamed Incredible. Slow down people.

Good point.

Doesn't matter. It doesn't add up. The name "Incredible" is too hard to market. Too hard to protect, legally. And no where on the new batch of pics does the word "Incredible" exist. And then NKT drops a bomb - out of the BLUE, mind you - that we'll likely be seeing a new thread for a new Android device in the near future.

I'm calling Mulder & Scully...

feels like I'm a child waiting for Christmas to come with a "Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle".

The photo may have been cropped to focus on the camera. who knows

No problem. I agree on the Supersonic talk though.

As for the Incredible. It doesn't bother me if it is coming out on the 17th instead of this month. I just want to know when...

So, I remember people talking about "rooting" a phone to increase the speed of the processor. Could this be done to the Incredible to increase its speed to over 1 GHZ, and if so, about what speed could it be clocked at?

No, color does not matter to me, I just want some "official" release information, specs, pics, etc. This will be my first Android phone and looking to do some app development with it. Personally, unless some VZW rep unhinges and gives us some details, I doubt we will see anything until CTIA :(.

The addiction I have to this forum is worse that my addiction to World of Warcraft. This is baaaaad. :o

I am not sure how high, but you run the risk of buring out the processor if you clock it too high. Just like a PC.

My eyes! They bleed!

I heard a radio ad from VZW last night while driving home from work. It was curious to me that they discussed "smartphones powered by Android" but never once uttered the name "Droid." Considering the consistency in their initial branding for Android-powered devices, I thought this was a noteworthy change in verbiage.

You sure about that? Maybe NKT is being slick with semantics. He could be talking about a new Shadow subforum. But he may also be dropping a very craftily disguised hint.

Oh NKT, how I look forward to your posts.

Okay guys, things are heating up! I tweeted to VZWOffers on twitter which is the official Verizon Wireless twitter account. here is what I tweeted to them:

And I just got a response back!

I'm ListFisher by the way. Sound interesting to say the least. I think we are the verge of some official news!!

I feel somewhat vindicated in wasting time looking through those tweets. IMO this is tantamount to an official acknowledgment new phones will be released before summer. Here's hoping they're referring to Android phones and not the latest clamshell or texter.

While I'm sure you could push it, I think the real question is how much battery life or processor longevity you would trade for that higher clock speed. Add to that the law of diminishing returns, and I don't see myself pushing this thing at all, 1ghz is plenty fast for me.

To answer your question though, I'm sure the device will be rooted eventually and you would most likely be able to overclock the snapdragon.

Who was the person that worked for VZW and had the meeting with the HTC rep today? Hopefully he will speak up here soon :D

People have overclocked their Moto Droid to 1.1 GHz and even 1.2 Ghz. I doubt you'd see the same from the Incredible's Snapdragon processor as the Moto Droid's processor was underclocked to begin with. Also, I have a hard time imagining a 2 Ghz phone...

Yes, it's more than likely that it is possible to root this phone; and yes it will be OC-able after root.

However, we don't know how far we can push the processor until the actual unit is released for obvious reasons. If it is the same processor as the one in the Nexus One (no new steppings) then not very far, I think like 1.2Ghz was reached before becoming unstable. I wouldn't do it anyway, with only a 1300mAh battery (compared to Nexus One's 1400mAh) your phone will run out of juice faster than Angelina Jolie could adopt another foreign child.
