Samsung Galaxy S III vs. iOS 6

First, I want to say that I know I'm opening this on an Android forum. That being said, how do you think the Samsung Galaxy S III compares to the news that we heard about iOS 6 that was announced today. Will the Samsung Galaxy S III still hold up well when iOS 6 is released in the Fall?

Thoughts?
I fall for apple's iOS each year when each version of iOS is released. I also fall each iphone that is released. I do this every year then eventually come back to Android. But not this time.

With iOS6, i don't feel it should have been called iOS6 maybe iOS 5.4 or iOS 5.5
I was hoping apple would unify the itune, ibooks, itunes university and the apple store similar to how google did when it rebrand android market into Google Play.

I personally think the Galaxy S3's version of icecream sandwich is the best mobile OS to date. I love the unified Google Play store, ability to have a full version of Google Maps with all the new features not found in iOS. I like the ability to have a native Google Drive app. I love the pics and video gallery additions. I like how the videos play when you scroll thru videos in the gallery. I really like the new video picture in picture view for viewing videos/movie while you work or play games on the Galaxy S3.
Last what was apple smoking when they drop google maps for apple map............................
It's the little touches like that, that help the Galaxy S3 edge the iphone out.

It was funny during the keynote when all the apple fans got all happy and cheered about the new email refresh animation.Lastly, iphone still has no 4G LTE.........Apple need to get their sheet together.................

As a current iPhone 4S user I was a little underwhelmed with the iOS 6 announcement.

It sounds good enough, but it is more of a small step up from iOS 5 than a giant leap (Much like iOS 4 to iOS 5).

Apple have always been playing catch up, I remember when I got my iPhone 3G 3 years ago and my mates 4 year old Samsung could do stuff my brand new shiny iPhone couldn't like MMS/Send Photos via bluetooth etc.

For me Apple has a certain je ne sais quoi. I've had Mac's for 11 years now, iPods, iPads, iPhones, it's just brand loyalty I suppose I love the way Apple make products and the Zen-like design in which they make things, the superb build quality of their products and I always will.

I know there are a lot of Apple bashers on here for some reason or another, but I think many Android enthusiasts think they are 'rebelling' against Apple or something by buying an Android phone whereas Apple couldn't care less.

I'm sure Apple doesn't care that their stock price dropped a few points after the iOS 6 announcement at WWDC, they are the world's most valuable company let's not forget :)

Yeah I have no brand loyalty, I have used various iphones and just about every high end android from every manufacturer. You and many apple "fanboys" as many call it stick with one product no matter how great or minor an upgrade it is. For me and many android users they choose the latest and greatest and if it does not work for them they switch. I think that is where you think the bashing comes from when really it is just android users expect more from announcements and such. I mean look at the uproar when the sgs3 didn't have the ceramic back and 1080p screen or when an android update wasn't up to par. You see a lot more "bashing" than the apple loyalists do when an announcement/update is underwhelming.

That's a fair point.

Ironically, I used to be exactly the same (for phones anyway) back in 2007/08, I disregarded the iPhone (even made fun of its lack of features, and at the time lack of 3G) and basically caved in to getting the iPhone 3G in March of 2009 (3 months before the 3GS announcement) as there was really no other phones out that interested me in the slightest.

I just have different things I'm loyal too, with my games consoles I'm an ardent supporter of the 360 over the PS3 (Ironic again I know), cars Volkswagen over pretty much every other car of a similar price/size.

The whole reason I turned to Macs was back in 2001 when I had a string of PCs that continued to break and I just got fed up with them, so went to a Mac and well I never turned back. Got an iPad out of curiosity, I never use it. My iPod packed up last summer after 3 years.

Got a brand new iMac in May 2011, which is amazing. But I was and still am extremely dissappointed with OS X Lion, which made my whole iMac freeze whenever I wanted to play a YouTube video (absolutely ridiculous I know), Apple in their wisdom only released an update a MONTH after Lion was released which meant I had to turn off my iMac everytime I was finished with it rather than let it Sleep.

Suppose I'm a glutton for punishment, but could never bring myself to buy a PC, Blackberry and I have serious reservations about getting an S3/HTC One X/LG Optimus 4X HD even though I know the features and speed will blow my socks of because of this nagging feeling that I'm abandoning Apple (crazy I know).

They dropped Google maps for Apple maps just because Google maps is hosted by Google...their largest competition in the mobile market share. It must be embarrassing to use Google Maps on iOS for Apple management.

Give it a few years and Apple maps will probably be just as good as Google maps. GMaps has a number of years of data / existence under it's belt, so I'm not surprised that Apple maps isn't nearly as complete, even using a pre-built GPS system like TomTom as a starting point. But slowly they'll grow it into something that will compete.

As for LTE, the 'new' iPad has LTE. I'd be very surprised if the new iPhone doesn't have LTE. It would be very, very foolish not to have it. But, then again, Samsung had to compromise on the North American chip to give it LTE...makes me wonder what sacrifice Apple will have to do to get an LTE chip into the iPhone.

Is LTE the same as 4G, I'm confused?

I think apple is using the qualcomm chip atleadt that's what's rumored so they can get lte.

Yes. LTE is growing to be the standard 4G technology for world use. Frequencies vary from region to region (and carrier to carrier), but the tech is the same.

The S4 Krait processor that is in the North American Galaxy S3 and One X?

If so...sheesh...Qualcomm is going to be raking in the cash.

I believe the new iPhone is supposed to use a newer a5 chip which is made by Samsung. The new iPad uses the a5 and it runs on Verizon and AT&T lte networks.

Okay first of all I don't REALLY see a reason why iOS 6 and the GS3 are being compared, technically it should be iOS6 VS Android, but thats another story for another day. But I've been an avid User of Samsung and the Android brand my first Android phone was the Samsung Moment which at the time was the top of the line. I remember going into a restaurant the 1st day I got it and everyone Owwing and Awwing over it. Then I used a Samsung Transform after I had shattered my Moments Screen after that I moved to the Galaxy S Epic 4G which was and still is a nice phone and due to "contract reason" I did not get the GS2 and am now getting the GS3. Granted I've rooted and put custom roms on my phones I feel comfortable with Samsung they've never steered me wrong. And to be honest with you I LOVE my Amoled display call it over saturated if you may I prefer it over LCD and LCD2 theres just something about those screens that doesn't sit well with me. In between those phones I listed I've purchased iPods, iPads, HTC, and Windows Phone, And to this day call it what you may Android still has the best OS it gives you freedom to do what you want with it and make your own and None of those other phones Nor Pads give you that Android experience. Granted you can put icons where you want them and fancy active tiles its still not Android......... Android lets you be you and not everybody else like some other company.
