It's not really 2.3.8, and what difference does the number make? None at all. If the phone runs faster than when you got it, the version number shouldn't matter at all. As for all your problems, format /system /data /cache three times, then wipe the dalvik cache. THEN Install the ROM.

There will never be a 2.3.8 because Honeycomb (3.0 for most tablets) and IceCreamSandwhich (4.0 for phones and tablets) Was released. It also shows how much you know about Android. Most Gingerbread versions released do not change much at all.
