Help in MESSAGES, the menu button sends me to CALL LOGS, *not* to "all threads" or "delete threads"

in MESSAGES, the menu button is sending me to CALL LOGS, *not* to "all threads" or "delete threads." this is recent software glitch. i already did a full factory reset and then the ascend upgrade from the app market. metro pcs. totally annoying. i'm NOT knowledgable enough to "root" or do anything technical. any fix??

there is no way to exit messaging into "all threads" for "compose new" with the menu button (it's supposed to work like this).

the only way i can get the menu i need is to hit menu while clicking the trackball (all of a sudden). makes no sense. thanks!

Hmm-first backup all your messages using an app like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore
Then go into settings-applications-find the messaging app and clear data and cache. Reboot and see if it fixed it. Never heard of that happening before.
If it doesn't correct it perhaps a defective phone.
