Software update?

I noticed something weird tho, 4 of my friends also have a warp, 2 (Including me are rooted) and the other 3 are not. The other 3 NEVER got a text about an update and one of the 3 are one B08. But my friend and I (Him on B08C me on B08) Did get the update notice. Is this update only targeted against rooted users?

I was getting the notice every half hour yesterday. Tried several things:

  • delete zip file from /cache/ directory
  • block linux kernel in droidwall
which didn't seem to work.

Then I tried using the back button when I got the message (instead of clicking wait until later), and I haven't seen the message since. Could just be a coincidence, or maybe the [wait until later] button actually schedules the update program to rerun in a half hour?

**Edit: I started getting the updates again this morning...ugh
 
I just got the update, on bc08 now, Android's movies app said I was rooted, but wasn't, although I had tried... I wonder what it will say now.
 
Hey guys... I've read all 4 pages of this thread so far, and I only have one question: Will the update break root, no questions asked? And if it does, can I re-root with a one-click? Or, if it does break root, can I just restore from CWM?

I'm running Shinjitsu non-OC 1.5b with CWM, and I'm still very much a noobdroid.

i highly suggest you ignore the update as it only has brought trouble to the people who have updated such as a lag with the phone lots of fcs and the such it will break your root and yes it is possible to reroot and it gets rid of CWM too i hope that helps and clarifies things for you best of luck :D

if your using a custom ROM the update will always fail (proven i personally tried 3 times :P) as for being on stock im not sure it seems as im running my ROM it nevers pops up after it failed but if you return to stock it will pop up again
 
I have had 5 customers since Friday that did the update and it bricked their phones.. It would not let me get into FTM or recovery mode.. Just an FYI..
 
I accepted the update and had no problems. I was rooted and was on B08b. (never moved to "c" as I was waiting to see and then just pure lazy inertia after the wait). I never had many problems with my phone accept that it began to run hot and the battery life would get poor. Also my phone had been experiencing more dropped calls and late emails as of late. As I said I downloaded the patch about 5 days ago and my phone is running a great deal cooler and I am not having battery issues (relative to Android that is). The reception also seems to have improved and I am not having an issue with email/voicemail delays. It does look like root is not working properly on certain programs like Root Tolbox but fine on Root Dim, CPU tuner, Titanium Backup. Might need to re-run the rooting tools. As others have stated I think this is just to get people that are not up to B08c up to speed.

I wasn't rooted when I got the notice, I was still on b08. My brother never received a notice (so he says) his version is b08c.....

Two warps here mine and my kids B08c Stock no texts from boost about updates I even checked for updates via 3g in tbe update firmware option every time I get the no updates available notice.Its no big deal to me this phone runs solid and smooth as it is anyway but a update is allways welcomed 2.3.6 would be a plus.
 
So my kid just told me that he received a text that stated updates are available for your phone would you like to update now or later,went ahead and updated now.This phone was never rooted and ran B08c and ran problem free I will wait and see if any poor performance issues arrive I have yet to receive any notice for mine yet.
