How To: ICS Stock Upgrade Without OTA or Root

Is your phone currently locked or just when you try to go into fastboot? Is your phone stock or rooted? Were you using the instructions above?

unrooted its only locked when i try to go into fastboot mode...and yes i was following the instructions

Ok a lot of very simple basic questions being asked here. All the answers in in the link I provided and the video. Some of you guys must not have watched the whole thing or paid attention because you are asking questions like the middle finger in the video and my phone says lock. Well the finger is a custom theme the guy in the video made for his phone. he says so in the video. Your phone saying its locked in AP fastboot is NORMAL. Please guys pay attention, read, and do a little self research we can't hold your hand all day. You wipe data, cache, and system (factory reset) wipe right before you update from SD card.

I highly recommend you do not try this if you have no idea what some of these terms are in the instructions or if you have never flashed a rom before. To answer some more questions this is the OTA that verizon will release soon. If you upgrade using this method you will not have to update again when it is released. you will also be able to receive any future updates. This will wipe all your data on the phone but NOT your sd card.

ICS update is important for me in that I will be in Europe in a couple of weeks....anyway to know if GSM global compatibility is in effect with this manual update...?

I watched the video. the guy said "If you not going to root your phone you can stop watching now", so I stopped watching. I guess the green finger was explained later during the rooting part of the video, but admittedly perhaps I missed the green finger explanation during the upgrading to ICS part of the video.

I'm sorry if I missed this question somewhere, but can this process be done the same way on a Mac? I don't see why it couldn't I'm just double checking.

no the bat file will not run on a mac. also the motor drivers needed are only windows version. you can only run this in a mac if you have parallels or a windows operating system even then I am not sure if this will work 100%.

I see the link to download the 1.7 version of the updater but where do you download the actual OTA file that you leave zipped?

I downloaded the driver and it still stays "path not found". It DID however say, you may now install ics but I was nervous since it said "path not found". Any suggestions

Extract the utility to the desktop. The WHOLE thing. Not just the bat file.
Run as admin if that did not fix it.
If it doesn't look like this, you did this wrong and need to extract it correctly.

I have a question. I understand you get 2 replacements through asurion during your contract. I already used up one of them. With that said....if I screw up my phone doing this and report it as lost or stolen....will I have to pay the "deductible" again or would it be free? A deductible should only be a one time charge.

You would have to pay the deductible again.

And FYI reporting the phone lost or stolen when it wasn't IS insurance fraud, a criminal act. It also drives up costs for people on insurance, since Asurion is able to recover some money from selling returned phone to be repaired and resold.

Besides, Asurion will cover it anyways, it's very unlikely that you'll brick the phone doing this and if something does happen you will almost certainly be able to fix it with the community's help.

Ok thanks man. I really wouldnt lie about losing it...just saying. But hey...if I throw it out the car window into a cornfield, I guess I lost it jk

Well in that case, smashing the phone up and sending that in is both entertaining and gives Asurion something to resell. j/k

But in all seriousness, they actually will cover the bricked phone. As long as you pay the deductible, and didn't do it intentionally, they won't care if the phone got accidentally damaged pulling it out of your pocket or by flashing new software on it.

And again, it's quite unlikely to mess your phone doing this.

After watching the video it seems pretty simple, especially if you just follow along with him. But part of me is still too chicken to try.

Is it normal for the 2 "mot" folders in my computer to change to removable disk drives and show no data when you put your phone into charge only mode?
