Root Change long press home key function?

I was wondering if its possible to change the function of the long-press home button. it currently shows recent apps. I want to be able to set the apps it displays myself (permanently) so it acts more as a 'shortcuts' menu.

Currently, I'm using THIS app in correlation with the cm7 feature to launch a custom app on long-press... (yup back on cm7 for now, lol) and it works... But it would be sweet to do it without the use of an additional app.

Is this possible, or is my solution as close as I'm going to get?

The only one that I know of that will do something like that is ADW Ex and it will only allow 1 app to be launched, not a preview of apps to choose from.

That would be sweet if there's someway out there that would allow us to do that without the additional app.

I use the Animated Widget to access all of the apps I use frequently.

This is what I use (Animated Widget). Notice the round black icon on the lower left of my screen. When I tap it, all the apps I have added to it pop up. I know you said that you were looking for a way to do it w/o an additional app but thought I'd post this option. The widget can also do a lot of other things too.

Thanks guys, but I'm looking for a low level solution... Maybe a way to open the apps i want (to set up the list) then stop it from "updating" to keep the ones i chose.

Ok sorry can't help. I don't know why it's not compatible because I'm using it. I'll send a screenshot when I get home.

The closest I've seen (but am not sure if works in cm7) is an app called Task Switcher:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5zaGlzaG8udGFza3N3aXRjaGVyIl0.

What you do is set Task Switcher as the default home launcher thingie and once that pops up you can hit the settings button and under those settings you tell it your real default home screen. After than it's one press on the home to open Task Switcher and two presses of home to get to your home screen. It's been awhile since I used it so can't really give step by step, but I don't think it was that hard to use.

I remember you can pin apps (and I think some widgets) you want to Task Switcher. Not sure if you can hide recently used apps or not but might still be worth looking at.

Thanks, but i already have a working solution involving another app running in the background. I'm more interested in how Android interprets 'recent apps' and how to specifically filter that output. I have noticed that if i open, for example, picsay using the 'share' option in gallery, it doesn't show as a 'recent app'.... I just wish i knew how to manipulate it further...
Maybe i should just be happy that it works the way it is.:D
