Ice Cream Sandwich...what's the big deal?

lostgrrl

Lurker
I just updated the firmware to Ice Cream Sandwich and don't see what the hubbub is about. Mostly everything looks the same. I am not a big tech person but read a lot about how great it will be to have chrome on the galaxy. I guess I must have it now, right? Is it my default web-browser? Why all the excitement over it?

What you are seeing is Samsung's version of ICS with Touchwiz overlay. If you were coming from vanilla Gingerbread to vanilla ICS there is a massive difference. You can download either Apex or Nova launcher to see what stock ICS looks like.

You can download chrome (which is no longer beta) from the market. Your stock browser is the Samsung's own.

Some people like Touchwiz, I just don't get why, specially with ICS out.

So it's supposed to come with Chrome but doesn't because of Samsung? Because I saw this big list of what the difference is and that was one of them...Chrome.

Chrome is head and shoulders over any other browser I've used, including dolphin in terms of speed. Otherwise, Dolphin had some pretty neat gadgets I was just learning.

@mostly harmless: how do you like the aokp rom? I am seriously considering flashing to the most recent build. How is battery life and is it like stock ics?

But does my phone have Chrome? Or did Samsung take that out and put something else in? Explain it like you were talking to a 5 year old because that's about my techie level...actually most 5 year olds probably know more than I do, but you get the point.

Its really nice, very much like stock ICS, even has the ICS camera. Battery life is excellent with the fluxi xx kernel. I liked shostock a lot too but this really makes the phone feel like a nexus.

Go to Google play on your phone, type in the search field "chrome" and download the browser. When a screen pops up that ask you if you want to use either the stock browser or chrome check off chrome. Chrome is loads better then the stock browser.
