This happened several months ago. What I'm referring to is the integration of the services. You can't just buy a company and all of a sudden your software just magically works together, it takes lots of time to integrate the services. . .

No offense, just don't hold your breath.

We were talking about the purchase of Grand Central years ago what you know today as Google Voice. Google Voice was an acquisition not their own development. They've improved on it a lot but it wasn't their original idea.

Probably goin' to get flamed in 3...2...1...

Nevermind... :D

Ummm . . . someone else chime in here as well but Google bought Google voice about three years ago in late 07.

Anyway I think it was longer than 8-9 months.

I could be wrong, anyone else have data?

It took 20 months (July 2, 2007 - March 11, 2009) to launch Google Voice after acquiring GrandCentral.

It's been almost exactly 12 months since Voice was launched. Add 8 more months and we're in November. For a total of 20 months.

Note: Google acquired Gizmo5 on November 12, 2009. GrandCentral had VoIP integration that was never transferred into Google Voice. They've obviously been working on the VoIP since they first purchased GrandCentral and the acquisition of Gizmo5 was building off of the VoIP progress they made. People are going to work for 8 hour days, 5 days a week, for an entire year. ~2000 hours of work from dozens of people and we think they can't have anything in 1 year after buying nearly complete software? There's very little work to be done to make Voice run on VoIP.

From what I gather, the VZW (Verizon Wireless) stores have a greater degree of flexibility and services than Verizon Corporate stores. Indeed, the VZW stores don't even have to have the name "Verizon" anywhere on the store front! The Corporate stores are strictly "by-the-book" and offer the exact same products and services that can be found on Verizon.com. The VZW stores can offer products and services such as Dish or DirecTV satellite programming, along with many third party accessories. However, it's usually the Corporate stores that get the newest phones first, as the VZW stores are often "franchised out" and end up waiting about a week or more to get the same devices. While the 2-year customer contractual terms on both Verizon fronts remain the same, the Corporate stores get better pricing for their customers on the new devices. My VZW manager friend tells me that this really sucks to have to be in competition with your own company. That's why it'd be HUGE for the VZW stores to get the Incredible first - at least for me! :)
Ah, you're talking about Verizon Stores and Verizon-partner stores. I've noticed the Verizon-partner stores are more relaxed and lenient on stuff, but the one close to my place does not always stock all their phones (they don't even have the Droid or Droid Eris in stock for some reason). That's why I usually prefer to go to the Verizon Stores to actually get my phone.

No offense meant but that code was probably cut out and not developed on for a long time. There are/have probably a small group of Devs working on it, maybe.

I hope your right I'm just saying I don't expect it before next year.

I think if you ask other Dev's you'll find that software integration is a little more complicated than that. I'm really not trying to pick a fight I'm just expressing my opinion. I've done a fair amount of development work so all I'm saying is that my opinion has some validity.

Honestly, I've always felt this confident about this phone. Since we heard that it was going to be called the Incredible I just KNEW that Verizon was too reputable and too intelligent to just make it an Eris replacement.

Another reason is that it is a VERIZON EXCLUSIVE. Do you guys know how big of a deal that is? It's really maybe the first time that HTC has done this. This isn't a version of the Desire, like the Eris was a version of the Hero. The Incredible is a stand-alone device that is different than every other phone that HTC makes. That's a new thing, as far as I know. So, as soon as I knew that I just knew good and well that this phone was going to be something very special.

I've kinda just sat back and not posted much lately while there was some negative talk about the phone and that it might not be what we think it will be and blah, blah, blah. Just remember though, this is something very special. The Motorola Droid was something very special too, but even it had a European counterpart, the Milestone. So, the fact that the Incredible is a one-of-a-kind unit specially created for Verizon Wireless...well, that just should tell you right there that this thing is going to be something game changing. I believe that wholeheartedly.

+1 Bravo nash! You nailed it on the head. People that have been having the negative talk about this phone is gonna have a big awakening! This weeks gonna be crazzzyyyyy :) I work a double shift tomorrow. I cant even imagine how long this threads gonna get hehe

Goddammit! My first post in this thread was telling everyone to just calm down, it's just a phone launch, no big deal. But then I keep reading page after page, and you're sucking me in! I find myself looking forward to the announcement more and more, and I'm not even in the market for a phone until summer '11! You win, man, yous guys win!

A little more on topic, I seem to remember reading earlier than the Incredible was going to have the Snapdragon cpu, but underclocked at 768MHz, but now I'm seeing it listed as 1GHz. So is the consensus that it won't be underclocked? I know it's not a big deal since it can get overclocked to 1.2GHz no matter what it's at out of the box, so just curious. Also, is it possible to underclock the cpu? Seems that at 768MHz, it will still be faster than my iPhone, but dropping the speed will probably save battery life, which, as long as it doesn't hurt performance too much, can't be a bad thing!

I work for a corporate store, which we call Direct. I'm employed by Verizon Wireless. We call the other dealers that sell Verizon, Indirect. Direct stores generally all have the same product mix and pricing. Indirect stores have some freedom to choose their product mix and pricing, so it often varies from dealer to dealer.

Generally the Direct stores have the largest selection of handsets, along with displays full of live demo units. But Direct stores have zero flexibility when it comes to pricing. Indirect stores can choose to undercut the corporate stores. Compare the $199 corporate store price on the Moto Droid to what its selling for at Best Buy, Wirefly.com, or Amazon.

As to the topic at hand, no launch kit or mysterious box yet at my location. At my Direct store we normally receive our launch kits through internal shipping, but when I worked for an Indirect dealer, we would sometimes get kits mailed directly from manufacturers, such as Montana has been describing.

Actually if you think about it the Incredible is just another version of the Nexus One, Desire, and Supersonic... although that doesn't mean the Incredible is anything less than the previously mentioned phones. Is it THAT big of a deal? No, not really. At least not until Verizon gives the people (not us, because we already know about it) a reason to be excited about it.

The smaller battery of the Incredible vs the Desire/N1 still has me thinking 768MHz. We'll see pretty soon though. Might be variable speed based on load like Xscale CPUs

Would it make sense for a test unit to be running at a higher processor speed than production units though?

Hard to say what the CPU is really running at based on those screen shots. The CPU speed shown there could be based on what the stock CPU is rated at and not what it has been scaled down to. On the other hand, wasn't it devdroidian that first said he saw 768MHz, like on the same menu screen? He was probably looking at a test unit too. So I guess that leaves us pretty clueless about the final spec. I definitely trust HTC/Verizon's judgement though in choosing the speed that will best serve the device so I'm personally not sweating it either way.

I don't know why the HTC Incredible just doesn't use the same 1400mAh battery as the Nexus One, they're similar in size. I mean even if HTC successfully found a way to make the same processor run more efficiently and save battery... a larger capacity battery still wouldn't hurt.

I'm not sure what screenshot you're referring to? The only screenshot that I know of that was of any use was one showing the internal flash memory. Stericson got a dump from the device which shows it running at 1ghz and idling at 250mhz. (Essentially, this would be the only way to find CPU speed no? I'm pretty sure, unless you're running some sort of system management app, that you cannot just find the speed at which the processor is running at. I may be wrong though)

Ok Folks... Monday morning... Can you feel the anticipation?

The building is shaking...and I'm starting to see light thru the cracks...

She's about to blow! Let the leaking begin! :D

Gees! I'm addicted to this site!

I apologize in advance because I am sure this has probably already been asked, but...

Does anyone know if we will have to rely on touchdown for exchange email integration with the incredible ?

Looks like VZW annouced a txt slider and a LG WM smartphone slider.. No Incred. yet

Imagine if the "secret box" had info on the LG slider instead....

Montana Man,

Did the box have the same red tape on both sides of the box? Was just thinking how nobody would really notice the bottom of the box being opened to speak a peek, and then taped back up with some clear packing tape. Since that "opened" end would be back on the ground...Just a thought from my experience as a child speaking a peek at Christmas presents...

On another note, I really thought that I had registered for a Username on here a long time ago, but guess not. Been following this forum since before the Droid came out. Not forever by any means. I've been on top of this topic for a while now. Hope something comes to light today.
