I'm pretty stoked about this "mystery box". IF it went out to all VZW stores yesterday, I feel pretty confident SOMEBODY will crack it open and leak the contents by opening time tomorrow. Giggity!

Definetly man.. Im also thinking a large margin of the employees at vzw stores don't even know about the htc incredible.. If a bunch of us enthusiasts go to our local vzw stores and ask some employees about it and see if they've seen this "mystery box" there's bound to be someone cool who is interested in finding it. Shit, I would look for it if I worked at vzw.

my .02 :)

Does anyone think that it will be announced at CTIA and then be released a day later? That seems farfetched, but anything is possible.

On a side note, from the pictures we have now, I think the phone looks great. I would prefer a smooth back, but I'm glad that I can have a phone that won't scare people when I take it out (red back).

HTC verizon phones have a running track record of only a few days between announcement and release, so it's very possible.

Mayyyyyybe we will let it slide this time....but don't let it happen again! ;)
Oh please oh please oh please i hope you get to see the unboxing so you can share it with us all.

Lol.... I'll tell you what - if CTIA comes and goes with no announcement of our long-awaited Incredible, and your guys' remaining sanity hinges on my getting pictures of a cardboard box from HTC with "DO NOT OPEN" tape and stickers plastered all over it, then consider it done! In ANY event, I would expect this thing to be ok'd to open by 3/27 at the latest, as that's less than a week away. Just my $.02, there. Otherwise, why a Sunday delivery if you have another Sunday (3/28) to get it there under the radar???

OR.... We'll be unpleasantly surprised to find out Verizon is the Exclusive Carrier of the HTC Smart in the U.S.

That would totally suck.

I don't follow, what's the difference between "Verizon Corporate" stores and VZN stores?

From what I gather, the VZW (Verizon Wireless) stores have a greater degree of flexibility and services than Verizon Corporate stores. Indeed, the VZW stores don't even have to have the name "Verizon" anywhere on the store front! The Corporate stores are strictly "by-the-book" and offer the exact same products and services that can be found on Verizon.com. The VZW stores can offer products and services such as Dish or DirecTV satellite programming, along with many third party accessories. However, it's usually the Corporate stores that get the newest phones first, as the VZW stores are often "franchised out" and end up waiting about a week or more to get the same devices. While the 2-year customer contractual terms on both Verizon fronts remain the same, the Corporate stores get better pricing for their customers on the new devices. My VZW manager friend tells me that this really sucks to have to be in competition with your own company. That's why it'd be HUGE for the VZW stores to get the Incredible first - at least for me! :)

Ha! I went to my local VZW store and had a similar experience asking about the Incredible.

Me: "Do you have any idea when the new HTC Incredible is going to hit stores?"
Salesman: "...No."

He either had absolutely zero idea what I was talking about or he was hiding something, because he had a strange pang in his voice and there was a delay.

I feel like we're analyzing the Zapruder film here.

I'm sure this will get buried in all the box talk, but does anybody have experience using Verizon's text/data only plans and Google Voice? I have a Google Voice account but haven't used it much. Once the Incredible comes out, I'm thinking about dumping my nearly-$100/month Verizon plan in favor of their $55 data-only plan and Google Voice.

I think I just had a nerdgasm!

You can't do that yet. Google Voice as of now uses a normal phone connection for the actual call. You could drop texting and use Google Voice for that because Voice texting uses the data channel. Voice still uses POTS for most call routing.

Google acquired Gizmo5, essentially the only competitor to Skype. Google is eventually going to add the capability to make calls through Google Voice using only data and probably either add the support to GTalk or a VoIP only desktop client using their acquisition. If Google allows free Voice sign-ups in the future, there is very little reason to still use Skype other than the existing user base.

Time-wise I foresee a November release for VoIP Google Voice since the GrandCentral to Google Voice change took about that long.

Ummm . . . someone else chime in here as well but Google bought Grand Central about three years ago in late 07.

Anyway I think it was longer than 8-9 months.

I could be wrong, anyone else have data?

GrandCentral To (Finally) Launch As Google Voice. It's Very, Very Good.

Looks like roughly 2 years. I hope that they integrate functionality sooner but I wouldn't count on it. This is probably why the partnership with Skype . . . perhaps.

Like any Google product the key is signing up early for the invites. Check once a month, subscribe to their tweets and reed their blog. That's how I got my Google Voice and my Wave long long ago.
