Help Experiencing multiple issues as of this past week.

So my LTEvo was working relatively well up until this past week. I'm now experiencing multiple issues and am not sure if they could possibly be related. I've not yet taken it in to a Sprint store but will soon if need be. Figured I'd post this first to see if anyone else has run into any of these issues.

  • Noticed 2 days ago that one of my downloaded apps(Apparatus) now has 4 shortcuts on multiple screens rather than the single one I had set up in a folder.

  • Another app(TuneIn Radio) stopped showing up in any location on my phone though Play Store still showed it as being Installed. I ended up having to uninstall it and reinstall it to fix the issue.

  • My phone is now locking up/freezing on occasion. The entire phone doesn't freeze but the screen becomes unresponsive and I have to put the screen to sleep & wake it up again to clear the issue.
Any help with this will be much appreciated.

Well with Tune In radio it should be in the car dock app and can only be added to the home screen as widget, but since you already uninstalled/reinstalled not much to offer on that.

The freezing kind of sounds like the digitizer issue I had with my EVO 3D. You will want to keep your eye on that. If it continues I'd request a replacement because it will only get worse.

I can't offer much advice on the issue with the other app and the shortcuts.

Have you tried selecting the icons and dragging them to the top to delete the ones you don't want?

Glad you got it cleared up. Another option would be to clear your Data from the play store app. This will cause it to have to re-sync what you have installed

This could be a few things

Are you rooted at all or is this completely stock?
 
I'm still stock.

I use TuneIn when I'm out on walks/runs, not just when driving. Why would it being in a car cradle make a difference in regards to this issue?

I will keep an eye on my issue with screen freezing.

One other issue I forgot to list is that one of my bookmarks changed its name seemingly on its own. What was "Pro Football Talk" is now "Probably Football Talk". Very weird. And, I yes, I know it was spelled correctly at one point.
 
Do you keep your phone in your pocket? I had a very similar issue with my SGS until I figured out it happened from putting my phone in my pocket with the screen facing towards my thigh and not locking the screen. Come to find out in walking around my thigh was adding and moving all sorts of icons and shortcuts around.

Hmm hadn't thought of that though I'm not sure how that would happen as I always make sure my screen is off before putting it in my pocket. I should have a case & holster soon so I'll be curious to see if that has any bearing on these issues.

Unsure how often (if ever) you reboot your phone, but that's a start. In addition to that, go into your apps via the "manage apps" setting and start clearing out all your caches. If you're rooted, wouldn't hurt to wipe davlik cache. The longer your phone is up and running, the more lag and ultimately unresponsiveness you're likely to get as caches and db's continue to fill.

Reboots on this phone (@ least stock) will remove temp files, but I'd recommend a deep phone scrub to see if that helps alleviate the issue.
 
Is it possibly overheating?

that can cause all kinds of weird issues. If it keeps up I'd try doing a factory reset and see if that clears it up. If it comes back get it swapped out as soon as you can.

I reboot my phone every 3-4 days on average though I will start doing it more often to see if that has a positive effect.

I'm still stock.

I will try clearing my caches.

It does get pretty hot when using some apps though I haven't been checking the actual temps. Is there a specific temp threshold I should not be exceeding?

I will try a few other things first but if it comes down to it I will do a factory reset.
 
I'm now dealing with 2 new issues.


  1. My phone is no longer bringing the screen back up when I'm talking on the phone and I take it away from my face. I have to press the power button to get into the screen to hang up or enter any info via the phone keypad. Can you say "pain in the ass"
  2. My voice recognition does not work in my SMS app(ChompSMS) though it works in other apps. I've sent an email to Chomp but have not heard back yet.
Has anyone experienced either of these issues before? If so, what was the fix?
 
With all these issues, maybe time to consider a factory data reset? It's possible a os file has been corrupted/added, which a reset should fix. If you do so, check this thread first!. Also make sure all your data is either sync'd with Google and'or backed up.

That's pretty much my thought at this point as well, unfortunately. Doesn't bode well for the future of this phone.
 
Bookmarks changing names sounds very much like the work of a rogue. Either an app that carried a malicious payload, or a PC session with one, or a so-called friend who decided to help.

Pro Football Talk to Probably Football Talk?

Nothing corrupts that conveniently.

(or cut a notch in it, or return it for free for the revised version, or get a new handset because a small number - probably one specific part or hardware build - of the phones have an overactive proximity sensor)

I enjoy the "so-called friend" theorem. I've been thinking more along the lines of keyboard/user dictionary auto correct phail :D
 
Mine has decided to give me a white screen when I try to open the stock browser. If I reset the phone it starts working again but once I leave the browser going back in i get the white screen again. Any ideas? I can't be resetting the phone every time I go to the Web.

Both of the zagg I've had have given me the same results... So what I did was I trimmed the Notch a tad bigger and it solved my issue and I still got to keep my zagg. That is 99% most likely your problem. Why zagg made a cut-out for the ambient light sensor and not the proximity sensor is beyond me..
