Root Unable to Activate - PLEASE HELP ME!

I am new the whole Andriod scene, so I bought a Motorola Triumph on Virgin Mobile off Craigslist. This phone is rooted (it can tether) and it's running cyanogenmod 7. (I know NOTHING more, I am not techy.) I tried to activate this phone by putting in the serial number and I cannot activate it! There is not an "activate option" within the actual phone, like a button? (Hopefully someone knows what I'm saying..) and I've been on the phone with VM for the past 3 hours. Now on my account online, it says I currently have a Triumph. GREAT. But it doesn't do anything! In my hands, it appears unactive. It won't even make calls without saying "Error 16". What am I supposed to do? Virgin Mobile doesn't even understand why it won't activate...hence my wasted 3 hours on the phone with them. Do I need to remove this mod in order to activate? I didn't put it on there, and barely know how to operate it, so I don't know how to get it off. If you answer me, which I pray to GOD someone does, please answer in simple terms! I'm not at all techy, so I need to understand this.

So if you have CM7 then you have a custom recovery also. First, you need to download the stock ROM from here http://androidforums.com/triumph-al...eodex-roms-triumph-now-resets-splash-img.html .

Then you need to place it on your SD card.

Power down the phone.

Now hold both volume buttons at the same time, then hold the power button, while still holding the volume buttons, until it vibrates.

The recovery screen should pop up, use the volume keys to scroll and menu to select

select "wipe data/factory reset" once that is done select "install zip from sdcard" >"choose zip from sdcard"

Scroll down til you see the stock ROM and select it.

Now wait for it to finish, then press the back button and then menu, and the phone should reboot.

Now you should be able to activate the phone and also know how to flash other custom ROMs. Good luck.

You cannot initially activate the phone with CM7 installed. You need to go back to a stock ROM, activate the phone, THEN install the ROM of your choice.

Start here:

You can get Stock ROMs here:

PS the person who sold you the phone should have told you this, and offered to help. BUT that's how things go on Craigslist :)

Thank you! I contacted him and he returned my money and offered to fix the phone, but he said if I can do this process on my own, he'd sell it to me for half price! (which is a FANTASTIC DEAL, let me tell you!) But I'm so concerned that I cannot do this on my own! I really have no idea what I'm doing or what any of the software is...

You make it sound so much easier! It is really just that easy, or am I missing something? Plus, is there a chance that I will screw this up and brick my phone?

it's pretty easy, you should already have Clockwork Recovery, just make a backup, install the stock .zip on your sd, boot into Recovery, wipe system/data/cache/dalvick cache, install stock zip and you should be set :) g01851 posted the info you will need

I'm so NOT techy! ^.^ So the clockwork recovery (Not sure what this is?) is already on the phone? I didn't put it on there lol and How do I make a backup? I can't just install the zip to my SD, boot to recovery, restore and install?

Sounds like you have CM7 on the phone so yes CWM (ClockworkMod) should be on the phone. Here is tutorial with the info you need

http://androidforums.com/triumph-al...stalling-cwm-custom-rom-motorola-triumph.html

Start with Making a Nandroid Backup That should get you going. Just take your time and read the instructions. As you work your way down the list it will explain how to install a ROM as well. If you have more questions just shoot :)

I feel like I have a *simplistic* understanding of how to do this, I'm just so scared that I will screw this up! I'd rather send my phone to one of you pros for you to fix it. ^.^

It's really not hard at all, and there is no way to break the phone unless you physically break it :D (don't throw it LOL). If you know how to copy files to a thumb drive, and use a TV remote, you can do this!

Here is the manual to get familiar with the keys on the phone check out pages 7 and 8
http://www.virginmobileusa.com/resources/phones/prepaid/manual/motorolatriumph.pdf

1. Download the stock ROM on your PC
Stock_ROM_SplashImage_b_randon14.zip

2. Connect your phone to your computer, turn on USB and copy the Stock_ROM_SplashImage_b_randon14.zip to your device (remember where you copy it)

3. Hold down the power button and then Reboot and choose Recovery

4. Once the device reboots you will be in CWM. To move up and down menus you will use your volume buttons (listed on page 8 of the pdf), click down on the volume to choose "wipe data / factory reset" and then press the menu button (listed on page 7 of the pdf)

5. Scroll all the way to "Yes - Wipe all user data" and press the menu button to accept.

6. It should now but you back at the main menu now scroll down to "Install zip from sdcard" and press the menu button. "choose zip from sdcard" should be highlighted, now press menu button again. Scroll to where you copied the Stock_ROM_SplashImage_b_randon14.zip and press the menu button to select it. After it's done choose reboot.

Once it boots up activate your phone, and you should be all set.

For step 2, can I just drag and drop the file onto the micro sd card for the phone, put the card into the back of my phone, go into recovery mode, and do all that stuff?

Now how do I make a backup?? Is that hard?

nope, usually the hardest part most people have is getting CWM recovery on correctly, but you should already have that done

id suggest that youtube video you posted earlier, it was probly by the user Minus5252

he has many youtube videos that show you pretty much all youll need to know

putting CWM on (which is already done for you)

make a nandroid using CWM

and flashing a rom using CWM

Nope, I live right outside Chicago. I'm just so nervous and scared! I'm picking up the phone today for half price, which is such a good deal if I can successfully fix this.

with everyone here chipin' in, i see no reason why you shouldnt be able to get it to work

It's to bad you didn't do this sooner, I was in Schaumburg on business about a month ago.
