I have been following How To Root HTC Wildfire S A510C CDMA Virgin Mobile!
In process of Unlocking bootloader, cmd kept saying waiting on device.
I have went over the instructions and done what it says step by step for HOURS! Literally 8 hours now and counting. I keep starting at the beginning. Well.. the last time, I
Press Volume Down and Power to start the device into Bootloader mode.. I must have hit down a few times, because I have done a factory reset :( and lost everything!

I am so lost! Can someone please help me! I have everything downloaded and ready to go, just can't get the bootloader unlocked or get to My Device Identifier Token! and now don't know if it's possible with the factory reset.

Can you please tell us which steps you have done so far ?

And factory reset doesn't affect your phone much, its still fine.

And since you can get into bootloader it means, your phone is fine, so nothing to worry about

So excited to hear this! Just wish I didn't lose everything!

Steps I have done:
The HTC Dev method to unlock bootloader
1. I started with HTC Wildfire S and when that didn't work, I went to All other devices to start bootloader (first screen)
2. On Page 2 I did all 4 steps
3. On Page 3 downloaded Google Android SDK zip, Java, and HTC Sync from this page. I ran SDK and did the install and update. I created a file and placed the abd.exe, AdbWinApi.dll and fastboot.exe files in the new file which I placed in c:\android as suggested. I ran cmd and found c:\android (after a long time of looking since I have windows 7 things are a little different)
4. On Page 4 (step 8) Typed in Command Prompt: fastboot oem get_identifier_token and then I waited... and waited.. and waited.. while it said waiting on device :(
*while waiting for the device to be found, I downloaded clockworkmod recovery and root files found in the initial instructions, I have extracted them, but they are just sitting there because I am unable to unlock bootloader!
What I have missed??? Thank you so much for your response!

Well waiting for device usually means driver issue, but there's something you did which I havent seen people do and that is selecting other device bootloader just cos you couldn't run the RUU of HTC Wildfire S.

Most people I saw couldnt get to run the RUU for Wildfire S, but none of them used other bootloader. Cos there are at least 2 other solutions on how to put Wildfire S hboot update other than running RUU.

Extracting rom.zip and update it or using cmd to push rom.zip into hboot.
Check this out

But the good news for you, your phone is not yet bricked and its fine.

Since your phone is CDMA phone, hence I cant advice you to re-flash the Wildfire S rom.zip, cos I dont know the implications of it on your phone.

2ndly your phone is CDMA and hence you can use goldcard method to gain S-OFF and do the rooting other way.But at this point I dont know if you should use goldcard method or not.

Lastly if its just a driver issue and you can unlock bootloader and can perform root, it definitely be something new for other Wildfire S users who has so far failed with root cos they couldnt update hboot. I hope you can unlock hboot and if it works, it will be a new way of rooting Wildfire S. Please let us know if you succeeded.

P.S. Can you provide which country or brand of phone you have ?

UPDATE! I continued to go through the process and was finally able to unlock the bootloader and I used other device!
NEW ISSUE :(
I tried to continue with clockworkmod recovery and root files, everything seemed to be going great in cmd with clockworkmod recovery and then I got lost on how to flash root files (as someone else did on that thread) so I continued to search google.
I figured since it was UNLOCKED that I could use the "goldcard" method. I made sure to copy my sd card first before running gold card. I formatted my sd card and when I went to get the sd id it couldn't be found. So I went back to try clockwordmod method and am still stuck.
After cmd fastboot of clockwordmod, will my phone have a different screen that will have an option of unzipping the rootfile? because it doesn't and I have no clue where to go now.

country: USA
brand? virgin mobile, not sure what you mean by brand?

Congratualtions !!! Thats awesome, since you could unlock bootloader using different method, its definitely will encourage other users to try your method.

Now the most important thing is dont screw up with anything !!!
You dont need goldcard or anything since you already unlocked the bootloader.

But I have no idea where to go now? After cmd fastboot of clockwordmod, will my phone have a different screen that will have an option of unzipping the rootfile? I don't think clockworkmod is working?

I did 4c, had to download supersu. Then I went on to install clockwork. I have done this quite a few times. It seems to work, no errors stated, but when I go on to 5b, I'm stuck. After completing 5a, my phone reboots like it should, no black screen!

Thats fine. But can you get into clockworkmod recovery from hboot ?
In hboot, after selecting recovery, what do you get ? Does anything happens, like cwm screen or black screen or android with yellow triangle or just reboot ?

Also have u checked if ur rooted since you done step 4b. Try install root checker

No, I cannot get into clockworkmod recovery from hboot. When I select recovery, the phone reboots... Well.. as I was typing this I tried it one more time so I could tell you exactly what it is doing!
For the first time I see a new screen!! However :( I am unable to use the vol keys to highlight anything and at the bottom it says:

ClockworkMod REcovery v5.0.2.8
E:Failed to scan mounted volumes
E:Can't mount /cache/recover/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log

.. So I have chose to reboot.. hope this is right! I have the HTC screen.. it's starting up.. grrr downloaded root check basic and .. results: Sorry! This device does not have proper root access.

Frustrated

Your cwm is not working with the hboot you updated with. I dont know if that is because you updated your hboot with "other device hboot instead of wildfire s hboot" or not, but that seems the only plausible reason.

Sorry cant help you more.

I can tell you but not sure if that will brick your phone or not. Try wildfire s hboot update. See at Xda how to update hboot or downgrade hboot back to original.

This means you are almost close to rooting.
2. If you see ***LOCKED*** at the top of the screen, your bootloader is already the unlockable type and updating is unnecessary. (Lucky you!) Proceed to step 3A, skip 3B and finish with 3C.

So now just unlock the bootloader with the key (.bin file) which you will get from HTCDev and install clockworkmod and then do the root.

Enjoy !
