Sorry to hear about your issues with ATT. If all else fails, depending on what phone you have.. after you pay the ATT ETF, you could hopefully sell the phone on craigslist and get some decent money.. well over 200 if its a recent, high-end phone. Then, considering the money you will save with Sprint, you will easily make up that 350 ATT ETF in no time. Good Luck!
 
This is the first Evo flagship that I won't be getting, sadly. I've been waiting for something like the Galaxy Note since prettymuch forever, so I went ahead and got two of those for my lady and I. I'm glad to see they added a sd slot to the Sprint version of the One X, but no removable battery is just lame to me. I hope this phone is really successful and I can do some Android Beaming with people this summer.
 
I am thinking that I will be getting El Tevo as well. I currently have the MoPho . The MoPho has been a great phone for me. We don't have 4g where I am in Holland, but Grand Rapids does. Even with that, I have never used 4g, even when I had it available. My 3g experience with Sprint has been quite good for the most part. I usually buy the newest phone, just because I love new phones and learning about them. When I bought the MoPho at Best Buy, I new more about it than the employees. I even showed them some of the features and how to use them, and basically sold 2 MoPhos to a customer who was listening in.
That being said, even though 4g LTE service, is probably a ways off for me, EL TEVO is still looking like a great device......unless some of its features cannot be used with out 4g LTE service.

Didn't read the rest of the posts to see if any one has posted about your comment. But I was going to do the exact same thing and when I told a Sprint rep that that is what I wanted to do, he said that if I pay $45 that it will give me an early upgrade elegibility and so I did it and I preordered the Evo and now wait for tomorrow for the release :) might wanna see if you can do that instead of payin all that money to get it off contract. This is legit at least in my case, I don't know if it work for everyone but it did for me. Worth a shot!
But keep in mind it will restart your 2 year agreement....your choice!

I tried that on the 7th for my wife's account, and was told that the $45 deal was only valid through May 5th. I was also told that there were some regional sales deals but I couldn't qualify, no way, no how. :(

Actually, I really like my Evo 4G that has been rooted since I got it and has served me perfectly... until recently. Lately I've been having some issues that are getting under my skin and a wipe and install with new ROM only seemed to create different issues. They are issues that affect me greatly too like the phone freezes during the night so that my alarm doesn't go off :eek: and the GPS is hit or miss... mostly miss. With what I do every day I need my GPS to work all the time w/o hesitation. There are other small quirks like the fact that the phone doesn't remember what keyboard I've selected for input after a reboot so I have to keep going in to check the box then long press to select it. This one is more annoying than problematic like the others.

I messed with the HTC One X (why do Sprint phones get such crappy names?) at the AT&T store last week and was pleasantly surprised. I went from not really wanting a new phone to really wanting one after I spent 15min or so doing different things with it. I'm not sure I will root & am not even sure how much aftermarket support there will be for this phone. It does seem like I could live with it unrooted though although I would give up some functionality I've come to expect. I have rather large hands and really liked the size of the phone as it seemed to allow for easier typing and navigation around the various screens & menus for my sausage link fingers. I especially liked the camera section & ICS/Sense UI.

My real concern is with the sealed battery. I'm a bit of a heavy user and due to this I carry two fully charged back-up batteries that I can swap out for a dead battery. While this means I sometimes don't charge my phone in when I could it's also much more handy than scrambling for a charger all the time. It's also a problem when I'm in the sticks doing stuff all day long where there is no access to any sort of charger. If I'm out in a field somewhere or in the back country or mountains or at a shooting competition or ... I think you get the point. This would be the first phone I've ever owned that doesn't allow me to change the battery and carry a spare so I'm a bit concerned.

I also have a business account and up until now everything was on a 1yr contract which Sprint has done away with. This means that to upgrade to this phone I will have to sign a 2yr extension. I realize this is the industry standard now but it just seems so permanent all of a sudden. Looks like Amazon has the cheapest price at $149 that I should be able to get Sprint to price match as I have done in the past.

So, other than those things I'm thinking this could be the phone for me. What is the general consensus on this device?
 
Everyone seems to believe that having no removable battery is a big negative when it comes to having to pull battery due to a freeze or what not. All that needs to be done is hold the Power Button for IIRC 10 seconds and the device will shut down immediately without Power Down Animation. This works JUST like holding the power button on a computer. This works on almost ALL Android devices including EVERY one that I have owned including the OG Inc and should honestly work on this device also. Just a heads up, not sure if this has been posted elsewhere but will learn what has been posted and what hasnt. Am going to be a proud owner of thus device come tomorrow morning. I am actually coming from the LG Esteem on MetroPCS(Dont Flame, You Dont Know Why) and am excited to have another high-end HTC Device. Will be doing what I can to become as big of a name on this Forum as on the Esteem forum. Just wanted to introduce myself to the LTevo community.
 
Can anyone tell me why I should hold off on upgrading to the LTEvo? Any major GPS/Wifi issues that still need to be fixed? For those who have LTE nearby is it actually working? No substantial crashing issues? Camera works? It won't blow up when I try to make a call? Nada?

I know there are lots of threads about small issues here or there that people are having but I haven't seen anything major.

Like you said yourself, you have read about a lot of small issues but nothing major. For me personally, I haven't really experienced any issues with the phone at all. My fiance also has one and she hasn't had any issues at all. We both love the screen size and we love how responsive the phone is. We haven't had many issues with gps or wifi and the camera is amazing. LTE hasn't been officially launched yet but some people such as myself have been able to get an lte signal but not consistent. When sprint finishes an lte tower it maybe detectable for a few days then sprint makes it undetectable until its officially launched.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 comes out next week , if you want to wait and compare. If the HTC EVO 4G LTE is a sure thing, then go for it.

Like themuffinman75 said you have to read about the small issue first and see if these issue are tolerable by you! You may not even receive any of the small issues!;) My experience like with all HTC phones I owned, calling, gps are still extremely responsive (no issue as usual)...everything else in my experience is the same as themuffinman75...but let's not confuse our selves, as ALL phone manufacturers, HTC, Samsung, LG, Motorola, Google, Crapple just name a few (all big names lol) will have issue when they first release their devices! Some are just way better than other's at releasing updates! Ifeel you should pull the trigger!;)
 
First I wanna say I'm so freakin pumped that I'm getting this phone tomorrow lol. I walked into sprint and it was love at first site that screen made my jaw drop. Anything you can tell me that I need to know before I make my purchase tomorrow would be greatly appreciated.

Well... as a previous owner of HTC devices including the EVO 4G & 3D I took a sabbatical from Android to give a real look at an iPhone. I spent most of my time since October 8th elbows deep in the 3G, 4, & 4s--I hate'em.

Absolutely despise them. I actually despise AT&T, also. Sprint's coverage grew to outpace AT&T in my area, and people just don't understand that fact. The iPhones are plagued with many problems and hundreds of restrictions that are just nuisances to me. I honestly took a fair look and approach to the phones and am glad I learned what I did, but I can barely stand them.

It also timed correctly when I walked away from Sprint with 2 two month old Evo 4Gs and a 5 month old 3vo with the previous month of $225.00 credits towards my account. (Sprint really shouldn't change their TOS and give me a 30 day exit!!)

So, after being threatened that I couldn't come back to Sprint.. I have verified that I can actually come back. My only hold up until tonight was my debate:

HTC One X or LTevo?

Well.. I can promise I'll be coming back to Sprint for the developing community alone!! This forum is so alive with so many people I have seen grown from the original Evo up! Probably won't be able to dedicate so much time.. not nearly as much as I did working on the 3vo break-in.. but I'm back and hopefully I can fall back into the groove. (BTW I talked my gf into ordering a HTC One X so I'll have the best of both worlds)

Some of you might not remember me, it's cool!

I can say I am glad to see everything already unlocked and accessible.. including S-Off even if it isn't necessary.

So I'll hopefully be holding my new LTevo soon.. might wait on white.

Well, if you know me... I go through phones and phone screens like crazy. Otter boxes and any cases drive me crazy. I went in with a 3G from my brother and bought the 4S days after (the release date) and acquired a 4 eventually through swapping around old phones. I managed to play hack and learn the ins an outs and differences of all just honestly for my own knowledge. I love mobile phones and stuff like this as a hobby. I've been through prob 20 phones in the last 4-5 years just to play and hack. I kept my Evo 4G and 3D the longest and still have a cracked screen 3D at the house lol.

I have a buddy who is purely apple addicted and he is in the IT world so after years of debates I decided to prove him wrong bc he isn't as open minded as me and would never buy an android.. He still won't listen but I've managed to give him am Evo 4G for tinkering and he's coming around bc of my example to Atleast try out the other brand. I'm as loyal as a dog but it was for better understanding and now I can shut down all his major points of disagreement bc I have experienced both and know the pros and cons. He will be an android fan soon. He's starting to see the light. I guess I should buy a Samsung phone soon. I've been playing with Windows that my cousin has so... Lol
 
Well, today is my LTEvo upgrade day round 2. The first unit arrived Tuesday from Amazon. When I opened the sealed box, the phone was on, very warm, the screen was lit and showing a pixelated solid white screen. The screen wouldn't auto dim/turn off either till I did a hard reset, thought it would still show nothing but that pixelated white screen after that. Though the outer box showed no sign of damage, I'm assuming that whatever broke the screen connection internally happened in the UPS truck or this thing has even more amazing battery life than I thought. I would have had the replacement yesterday had it not been a holiday and Amazon gave me a $20 gift card for my troubles bringing the price down to $130. Crossing my fingers that unit 2 will be perfect. I already have someone lined up to buy my old Evo for ~$100 more.
 
Finally! LTEvo arrived and is activated. The box was crushed and the device had 0 charge which made me nervous, but all appears to be well. Can't wait for the case to arrive, this phone is too slim for my ham hands!
 
Sorry to hear of your troubles. But, that's exactly why I chose to pay a bit extra and buy directly from the Sprint store. Unfortunately I can't be without a phone for a few days while Amazon or Wirefly have me shipping back and forth for the savings. So, I bucked up and went in and snagged two of these phones (1 for my sone) whereas they offered a $100 credit on his since it was a port over from T-Mobile. Then they purchased both our old phones for about $110 (his was an original Nexus One). So realistically we got a pretty good deal and the comfort that if something's wrong then I merely walk in and get another one.

First impressions of this phone:

1) Awesome!
2) Smooth as butta!
3) The display is great!
4) Fast!
5) Sense 4.0 is much better than 3.0!
6) Love the way it handles the customizing of your screens. SO much easier!
7) Awesome ways to access notifications and other stuff right from the lock screen!
 
I bought directly from the Sprint store, and am not having a good experience. Signal reception is really bad, even when friends with older EVOs and other phones are sitting next to me with great signal and fast speeds. I'm hoping it will just be a defective unit but can't take it back til tomorrow.

I HIGHLY recommend that you have them check your signal reception and do a speed test to compare side-by-side with your current phone before you make the switch. I wish I had. The last few days with a new but marginally-working phone have not been fun. I'm really hoping it's a defective phone, but there are a lot of people with the same issue so I'm wondering... surely HTC would tell us if they released a bunch of defective phones?
