Root Need to Root RAZR Maxx but Corp Policy via MDM Blocks Rooted Devices

I have a RAZR Maxx (updated to ICS) and the bloatware is killing me. Both Moto and VZW packed this thing with crap that chews up RAM.

I was able to disable a few of the apps through the ICS App Manager, but most are still running.

Here is my dilemma. My phone is corp issued and requires MDM software (MaaS 360) to access corp resources. The MDM policy will not allow rooted devices to access the network. Is there a way to root, wipe out the crapware, and then unroot so I am back in compliance?

Thanks for the assist AntimonyER. I considered posting there originally, but my question was android agnostic, so I threw it here under enterprise (thinking this was about using Android devices in an enterprise environment). Whatever works best... =)

If it's a corporate issued phone you are probably best off not doing it.

That being said, you can hide/disable a lot of the bloatware without having to root. Would you like to give that a shot first (without risking your job)?

I have disabled what I could via the ICS App Manager and an the Android Assistant App (via Startup Manager).

If you have any other thoughts, I'm open to ideas. But it seems that all of the app "freezing" packages require root to run.

What other apps do you want to disable/remove?

There are a bunch (possibly) where you would need to uninstall any updates that have already been applied before you can disable it.

I think that if you root, freeze, unroot, the frozen apps will stay frozen. Maybe it is a good idea to check with TiB devs.

this is true. they should stay frozen. what exactly are you trying to get rid of? none of the bloat should be taking up enough of your ram that it really makes any discernible difference. at least, not enough to violate policy. of course, it's your call. i dont think you'll run into much issue rooting, freezing, then unrooting. worst case, they dont stay frozen. just do your research and find what can be frozen and what cant. i remember in the early days of the Droid X, i deleted backup assistant, and was bricked til an SBF was released.

Thanks for all the good info! I was able to uninstall the updates on a lot of the crap and then disable them from the ICS app manager. All told, I disabled about 35 apps and freed up almost 100 MB of RAM. Made a huge difference in the responsiveness of the phone.

FWIW - I don't think it's the freeing of RAM that improved the responsiveness of your phone. On the Moto RAZR Droid, 100MB is really not a significant amount of RAM, unless your corp has loaded a not of other software on the phone for you. I would bet it's the reduction of the load on the CPU that did this for you.

When an app is disabled/frozen it will no longer ask for and receive time running on the CPU. Those little slices of time add up to quite a bit. And .... those slices are then available for other tasks on the phone, such as responding to a swipe action to scroll from one page in the app drawer to another or to start up a new app or .... well, you get the idea.
