Discussion of the car dock for HTC EVO 4G LTE

BadgerX or anyone else that would know, is that IG-A03 the only part needed or do I need to buy a clamp too? I'm asking because in the pictures I see the ball/sphere end. I've never docked my phone before, but I am looking forward to it.

you need the phone dock from sprint and the IG-A03, thats it, you just replace the OE suction cup mount with the IG-A03, and stick it on the vent, then your good to go! :D

I can confirm. It was the same for the mopho car dock, which I love. The only thing motorola did better than htc is the motorola car dock comes with a dual port charger and an integrated 3.5mm connector, so you don't have to use the phone's 3.5mm output.

at first, I got a vent mount from amazon, which I used to be opposed to, but realized there's a dual function when you use the vent mount, since it keeps the phone cool. I've since decided to get 2 proclip car specific mounts (29.99 each) and bought cheaper garmin attachments, made by arkon, from amazon for 6.99 (each) vs. the 29.99 that proclip also charges for the attachments.

By far the best setup I have ever gone with. Even though I haven't decided on getting LTEvo yet, I'll take some pictures, so people can get an idea of other mounting alternatives with their LTEvo dock.

So just a quick question.. After skimming this thread it appears that there is no way to customize which apps are on the stock car panel.. Is this true???

I couldn't find a way. So I'm not going to use it. :)

I've had for a long time now some podcast apps and internet bookmarks that I listen to in the car instead of music (this was my old Nexus One). I could not find a way on that phone either how to add a custom media app or browser bookmark to the Car Mode. So I never used that either.

What I've done in the past and on my new LTEvo is just set up a "media" homescreen with all the shortcuts I need. Works just as good.

Not that I know of I had a different one on my EVO 3D that was good and then I tried Car Home Ultra and mine just expired but for a couple bucks I'm gonna buy it I like it. I forgot the other one I used to have what the name was.

I was just coming back to re-answer 3vodroid that I found Car Home Ultra tonight, and I'm going to give it a whirl.

You can customize more of the "buttons" with app shortcuts, direct dial shortcuts, and web bookmarks. So I created a little panel that mimics my media homescreen. Looks promising.

Also, you can set up the app so that it turns on bluetooth and turns off wifi when entering Car Home Ultra and then vice versa when exiting. Also changes the media volume level when starting.

I'm on the free trial now, but if it lives up to promise, I think I'm going to be buying this one.

Thank you both! I like the stock car app but I don't like tune in.. I'd rather use I heart.. The fact that you can't customize that is a bummer... I guess they just wanna push tune-in to people... I'll definitely try the one you both suggested.. Thank you again

So, after a couple of days "in the field" with Car Home Ultra. I really like it.... It's neat having the heads-up display for GPS vehicle speed, date/time, and weather there in front of you. I had to turn the city prompt off. That got annoying really quick. But it's quick to disable in the app menu

One of the things I like best about it is how quickly it turns on bluetooth when entering. It's FAST. I have it set to enable BT/disable wifi on entering, and then disable BT/enable wifi when exiting.

so far I have set custom buttons 1) a web shortcut (to an audio webstream of a morning tv show), 2) direct dials to wife and mom, 3) shortcut to MXplayer if I want to watch/listen to videos, and 4) another podcast app for listening as well as 5) shortcut to the Music app. It's nice... Turns out it's better than my "media homescreen" because the icons are much larger, easier to see, and easier to press.

Car Home Ultra is worth it!! :)

I like it too and i need to buy it my 7 day trial expired already. I didn't know you could turn off the city prompt cause that got on my nerves in my ear all the time. I guess I'll have to purchase it.

Sweet.

Good news is you don't need to purchase to remove that city alert... on the main screen, just pull up the menu, and Location Alerts is right there. Set to none and that lady is gone.

I didn't know you could turn her off my friend hated it too. He tried it before me but he ended up not getting a car dock. I'm buying it now.

ACTUALLY this is Wrong. The car app is changeable minimally. If you swipe to the left or the right once the main panel is on, you get an option to see an underlying choice of apps. Music is the first to the left and it stays the same but you can navigate within it to choose your preferred music from your library. Swipe further and The Radio Options appear. THE LAST RADIO OPTION YOU CHOOSE BECOMES THE DEFAULT OPTION ON THE MAIN SCREEN. If you swipe the opposite way (to the right) the Dialer comes up with the last calls you made and the Nav screen interface comes up wit options. Again Not necessarily customize-able but you change change certain options.

So this happened twice so I don't think it was a fluke and is probably reproducible.

Phone is docked in the car dock but not with car home on, just the normal screen in landscape mode. Call comes in and I answer it (probably not over bluetooth but that might work too). Then I take the phone off the dock as I'm getting out of the car. The call is still connected but the screen flashes on and off and I can't get into the UI. Last time I just restarted the phone. But I think the first time I waited it out till the call ended.

It probably is a bug I just wanted to see if anyone else has the same issue.

I have a Sprint-branded car dock and the paid version of Car Home Ultra. I have no password, PIN, pattern, or photo-unlock screen set up, just the standard "pull the ring" screen. Fastboot is off.

Starting from a fresh reboot, when I put the phone into the car dock, the phone wakes up and shows the lock screen. When I unlock the phone, it asks if I want to complete the action with HTC's Car App, Car Home Ultra, or Tasker. If I check the "remember my choice" option, and then pick Car Home Ultra, everything works fine...until I reboot the phone. By "works fine", I mean that subsequent phone dockings wake the phone up, unlock it, and start Car Home Ultra. Also, in this state, if I go to, say, the music app, pressing the Home button takes me to CHU rather than the standard home screen, which I think is good. When I undock, CHU exits. After a reboot though, I have to go back and do it all again.

Even after the set-up, I can't find an option in Settings -> App Associations for Car Mode. If I go into HTC's Car app, and go to its settings, and uncheck "Auto launch", then the phone never goes into Car Mode (car icon in the notification area) when it's docked. This causes lots of subtle UI problems: the phone won't go into landscape mode in the home screen (this makes app selection difficult), and if I do start Car Home Ultra, pressing the Home button then takes me to the standard home screen.

Is there a way to make this app choice more permanent?
