Help Capacitive Buttons, illumination behavior

buttons light up all the time.

Could be an app or glitch causing this.

how long have you had the phone?
has it been this way since day one?
are you rooted?
install any apps that can take over settings for screen, themes, etc?
did you do a restart on the shutdown menu to see if this corrected the situation?

edit: WITH auto on, screen brightness and the buttons will dim according to the ambient light. so when you are in extremely bright areas and the sensor adjusts, the buttons will go dim and the screen will increase in intensity.

on average though, the buttons will be lit in normal use (unless you are around extremely strong light sources)

I am not rooted. I've had the phone since launch and never noticed it before today. I haven't tried the skinomi yet, I put the xtremeguard on last night and did have a proximity issue today as well when I was outside and my screen wouldn't light back up as I tried to hang up a call. The skinomi has a wide cutout which seems to open up the proximity sensor as well as the light sensor. The zagg had a cut out for the light sensor only, but I didn't have trouble with the proximity. I just didn't like the zagg. I think I will be switching it today to skinomi along with a reboot.

When the ambient light sensor picks up that you are in a dark area the capacitive buttons are back lite.. When you are in direct sunlight and the light sensor detects this... The back light is unnecessary and does not come on... So no the capacitive buttons should not be lite all the time...

In my experience If you shine a flashlight directly on the ambient light sensor you'll find that the back light behind the capacitive buttons turn off.

I do have "auto" brightness toggled on.. I will test if that makes a difference right now and post results

Ok so I just tested with auto brightness on and off.. Results are the same.. With direct light on the sensor the buttons are not back lite.. When the flashlight no longer on the sensor the buttons are backlite

My 3vo acted the same

While watching a movie, the bottom 3 softkeys stay lit and it gets pretty annoying. I'm not rooted and would just like to know if there is any way to turn this off while watching media..
