Do not upgrade to ics

Your skyrocket will be terribly slow!

I upgraded mine and noticed the following:

Ram usage has tripled! I used to use only 345mb or ram usually, now its using a whopping 638mb out of 768!!

Launching apps is dreadfully slow compared to before.

Sometimes when launching google play or another app my lockscreen will come up. What the heck?

Games lag now, riptide and nfs hot pursuit used to work fine. Now there slow as heck. I even tried forcing to use gpu rendering in developer options with no luck.

I have even disabled a lot of the preinstalled junk, thinking it will free a lot of ram. Which is/was my main reason for upgrading, but with all this high ram usage it defeats the point of why I upgraded. Disabling apps didn't really help.

This phone used to feel so responsive and awesome. Now it's as slow and clunky as my optimus v from virgin mobile. This sucks.

I urge you. DO NOT UPDATE. You will be very disappointed.

I just got off the phone with AT&T an Samsung, my issues were losing 4G signal when wifi is on goes down to 1 bar turn wifi off I'm back to 5 bars. LTE takes forever to sync and once it does the speeds are that of 3G. Apparently they are aware and working on a patch now. Call both of them the more people that call the quicker it will be resolved!

i am disappointed as well.

slow and the ics experience on the skyrocket is nothing even remotely comparable to ics on the galaxy nexus. i have both.

i wish i wouldn't have upgraded.

Eh - the RAM issue doesn't concern me.

As for lag - have you completely shut down your phone and rebooted? I had some glitches at first but do did a few full reboots and now everything seems to be much better.

Another annoying issue you can tap and zoom on a pic with MMS now but if the pic has text with it still shows up as a video.

Like to remove the YP out of my contacts!

i've shut down, rebooted, factory reset 3x. this is slow, there is more bloatware, they mess with the addressbook, forced bookmarks, no unlock to camera, mms pictures still show as video, bogus warning messages when you try to close apps, and this is on a factory reset phone with no apps or a few google apps.

i will never buy another carrier phone. i will only buy an unlocked google phone or an iphone.

here it is the middle of july 2012 and they release this shit.

Haven't had any problems with the exception of Dolphin browser crashing twice. I don't know if it was because of ICS or because I was watching a live stream (The Young Turks). My RAM is pretty much the same as before, anywhere from 200-400MB.

Bill Cosby... are you sure? i've never seen my ram going below 360mb since ics update! You're the only one who said that.. people on other forum report 360mb to 550mb usually it stays at around 425mb. Right now i using 558mb.. Somebody said that this is a part of ics operating because galaxy s3 can eat up to 950+ mb of ram with ICS and it has 2gb of it. So far it works ok.. i dont play games so it does not matter to me.

Just checked right now and it's at 415MB. I use widget locker. I'm going to stop widget locker and clear RAM and check in a bit to see how much is being used. The few times I have cleared RAM since updating to ICS it's gone to around 290MB (right after clearing RAM) at like 2am but eventually goes up after apps restart.

Edit: Ok just cleared RAM and checked about a minute later and it's up to 406MB from 377MB. I guess I was wrong. Every time I clear RAM now it doesn't go below 370MB.

after upgrading with ICS my ram just went up to 450mb which is just normal to me.

Definitely needs a patch to address the RAM issue, but I haven't noticed a drop in performance despite the increased RAM usage, and that includes playing Uno, Tower Defense and Angry Birds. Battery life is undecided, as I spent most of today with the display on while setting up a new homescreen, reconfiguring folders and playing with root functions.

I updated from 2.3.6 to 4.0.4 when the leak came out a while back. I haven't noticed any issues and I think that ICS is much better than what I had. I use chrome browser, which works great, and everything else I use is better now than on the earlier software. As far as ram usage goes, I don't worry about it and let the system take care of it. I have seen the ram usage drop to as low as 280mb but when I just use it normally, it stays in the 500-600 range. I do try to reboot the phone every couple of days though.

And if it makes any difference, I'm rooted and use Titanium backup to freeze the stuff I don't use.

My only issues seems to be with reception and wifi. Wifi on my bars drop to 1 and 2 where I normally get 4 and 5 bars. Turn it off and it's back to normal. LTE speeds are very slow now and takes forever to lock on. Contacted AT&T and Samsung about it. Get this email from Samsung this morning. Already pulled the battery and did the reset, so guess I will be sending the phone back which would make my next SR my 4th one!

Dear Michael,

Thank you for your inquiry. We understand that you're having difficulty about the internet connection on your device and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

As an initial troubleshooting, please try to perform a soft reset or remove the battery and put the battery back in. After the soft reset, please check if there is a network issue on your location that maybe affecting the handset.

If still not working, we recommend sending the device to Samsung repair center for proper evaluation.

Please see information below about the repair process for your phone.

The main issue I am having is the fact that sometimes when I go to open a app my lockscreen comes up. It's really weird. I tried disabling it and re enabling to no avail. Anyone else having this issue?

Also under development options check your windows speed and transition speed. 1x or 0.5 makes it feel a little faster.

Since no one has mentioned anything to the contrary, I assume that the upgrade to ICS does not affect any apps you have installed on the phone?

Thanks,
<TED>

ive upgraded to ICS and have no problems at all, no lagging apps/games and everything run just fine. Yeah the YP thingy is annoying in the contacts but other then that Im happy....even running the launcherpro launcher.

Yeah battery life is MUCH better!

Wish I knew your secret then. I am learning to deal with the changes of ICS and see no real issues ......but I'm in trouble on the battery life. After applying all the tricks I learned since I got the phone last December, nothing helps.

For instance: I read 3 short emails and the battery monitor showed a drop from 89% to 84%. No pics or attachments involved. Forget checking any news sites!

I'll keep reading here though; somebody might stumble upon a cure.

I installed ICS and don't have any real issues. I had to reinstall Opera Mini and I do think that battery use is up - but then again with a new operating system you tend to try everything under the sun and you have to redo a lot of parameters so that may be the source of the battery usage issue rather than something inherent in the OS...

Best,
<TED>
