Root Do I Need To Unroot To Udate To ICS?

I tried the kies air method for upgrading and it told me that I already had the latest firmware, so something is definitely amiss. It would be easier if ATT just pushed out an OTA that unrooted the phone, then I could just update and reroot.

I don't know which path to take here, would you guys weigh in on the best method to get this update please.

Would you mind explaining this for noobs like me? Seems like a lot of stuff that im reading about updating a rooted phone suggests unrooting first, before updating. What's your take?

I want to update to ICS. If i updated without unrooting first, would that remove the root? Many thanks!

I read through this post, and the only problem is that my laptop likes to die about every 15 minutes, and I don't want to have my phone in download mode with the battery removed, kies air doing its thing and bam, dead laptop.

There's gotta be another way.

Will ATT push OTA updates?

Can I do this without kies?
