Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

couple of things i noticed. Actually a little thicker than i thought it would be, certainly looks a little thicker than the HD2. However, I think this is due to the fact that it has a bigger battery which I am totally fine with. One worry, during the video on engadget it looked like the kickstand appeared to be really loose and opened up half way just by flipping over the phone. I hope that wont be the case with the production phones, I dont want the kickstand to move unless I love it. Other than that, Phone looks Sweet!!!! Hopefully we get some good news tomorrow concerning a release date.

If its loose ill find a way to take the damn thing off :D

Hopefully those secrets will include an earlier-than-expected release. Here's hopin'...

That doesnt really make sense. Saving a secret for right before launch means the secret wouldnt really be an earlier launch. I cant imagine what feature they would be referring to?

I would like to very sincerely thank Ouhei for being the one to leak the additional specs which put this phone over the top.

BTW, in regard to the non oled screen, I'm personally happy about this because it means it will be more viewable in bright sunlight, which is important to me.

The discussion leading up to this announcement has been a lot of fun, and I'm glad we got what we all want (besides the quick release date and screen type for some).

YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hahahaha, you're welcome guys. I won't reveal where I got it from as to avoid getting in trouble.

Not OLED screen: is that a bad thing? I never see OLED in person and don't know how much better it is.

My guess is that Sprint will try to release EVO 4G before iphone release, which is either June/July. Rumor that apple will have OS 4.0 with multitask.

but sprint has to be carefull of pricing. EVO 4G's price has to be competitive with iphone. Otherwise, the phone might lose its momentum. but sprint won't know how competitive the price will be until apple announces iphone's price.

execute me for using the iphone term here. Since it is now the industry standard, it can be used to predict EVO 4G price and timeline.

Well all these leaves is the need for a price and release date. I'm kind of afraid that if they wait to long Apple or someone might come out with something that will sway people, though it would have to be one hell of a phone.

secrets just before launch = 4G pricing maybe? (equals current 3G pricing plans)
Honestly what other features could the phone have? People had it in their hands and could locate it unless it wasnt on those phones. Which is entirely possible.

I think it's gotta do with pricing, release date or 4g prices.

my concern is that they spend too much on hardware which can make it too expensive and becomes less popular.

for example:
1) HDMI is nice but is it practical? how often are we going to use it? especially regular and majority of consumers, excluding us geeko.
2) 8 megapixel camera and 720p video are awesome. but is it practical?
for family pictures, I rather use my dedicated canon camera or HD camcorder. No way the phone can replace dedicated camera/camcorder since the phone is too thin and its lense will suffer. you can't trick physic. lense is the most important component in photograhy.

all of these hardware will be costly with less practical use. it is the software that they should focus on more with features, usability, and apps.

Billsmed, I'm both exciting and practical here. the phone hardware is second to none on the current market. I know you don't like critical opinion of the phone. I don't mean that way. just want to express my concerns.

Hey guys - i've been watching this forums for a few weeks now, and am happy to join and contribute.

My real question, other than the obvious release date (price doesn't bother me), is about the TFT display. Seems like a bit of a disappointment, considering everything seems to be moving towards amoled / superamoled with the new Samsung. I'll be very interested to see this side by side with a N1 and compare colors, vibrance, video etc. I know there are some photos on engadget, but it's tough to really see a difference.

Hopefully there will be some nice side by sides in the coming days.

Also can't help but wonder - will they charge for the Sprint Hotspot usage, and more importantly, can you use it even if on 3G not 4G. I'd need to be able to tether this phone in some way or another.

I guess we'll see.

I doubt its the release date if it's just before launch.

I was worried before about the EVO 4G not having a trackball or trackpad to make changes to text but HTC cleverly implemented it into the virtual keyboard (the arrows).

No worry, I'm glad that you're excited and I'm happy you're joining in with us.

In the pictures the screen looks fine to me. I'm going to be heading to T-Mobile tomorrow to check out an HD2 for comparison however a few months ago I was at a Sprint store and thought the Hero and Moment were comparable in terms of their displays. I didn't see a big enough difference that would be a deal breaker.

Here's a Sprint video of the EVO 4G

I really wouldn't be too worried about the TFT. One of my co-workers has a Hero and the other has a N1, and I've always thought the Hero had a more vibrant screen, which isn't what I would have expected. Maybe it's just me, but the N1's screen has always looked a bit washed out.

it is .5 inches thick. It is a good bit bigger than my ipod touch, not sure if the iphone is bigger than the touch but if you think of a box of playing cards, it is NOT as thick as that.

Dimensions are 4.8 X 2.6 X .5

the Hero by comparison is 4.41 X 2.21 X .57

the HD2 is 4.74 x 2.64 x .43 so yes it is thicker by .07 not enough to lose sleep over and it is thinner than my Hero.

I have a rubber case on my ipod that makes it about the same size but a little thicker and it goes in my pocket okay.

Hm so its 1.27cm thick versus my 3G which is 1.23cm thick. Guess thats not too bad. Still looks really "bricky" in that video for some reasons

OMG!!!! ive been folowwing this thread for a while...did u guys notice, it is the same battery for the hero!!!! now we have extras(well assuming you bought an extra one). you can see this on engadget, on the pictures with the battery off
