4g3 Doesn't seem to be breaking any sales records

Just an observation. Been following this device for a looooong time in this and other forums and really disappointed with what I've seen. Verizon is generating about 3 and a half stars with only 18 review posts. It truly must be camping on the shelfs. I've gone into Verizon and test driven this phone but haven't pulled the trigger. Just not wowed. The Samsung entry, though, is extremely intriguing. It really is a sexy piece. I'm second guessing my decision to not order it before the 28th.

I'm still holding out as well. I now wish I would have pre-ordered the SG3 or Got the Rezound prior to the 28th, because I didn't realize you could take it back and trade it for the 4G... So I am just waiting to find one for a decent price on Ebay or CL. The number sold doesn't matter to me. Just as long as it's a nice phone with little bugs. Verizon is NOT pushing this phone at all. Still have yet to see one advertisement. Haven't even got an e-mail from them on it. Have gotten multiple SG3 emails from them.

I have been following this phone since march when it was just rumors and speculation. Yea, it might not have the sales of an iPhone, but I normally don't go with the herd (sheep herd). Coming from the original inc, I love this phone a lot. Just don't really like Verizon though (their bloatware). But bottom line, I love this phone despite reviews. Sometimes the media isn't always right or have my best interests.

There really doesn't seem to be much bloatware on the GS3. I went in on this phone planning on returning it for the Incredible 4G LTE, but it's screen is a nice size. I was getting a cramped feeling on the old original Incredible. I do find myself reaching for a nonexistent track pad on the GS3 every time I need to correct something. Plus no text reflow on the browser is an annoyance and kind of takes away the pro of a large screen. I can't stand the bubble style texting on the thing either and wasn't impressed with the alternatives. Oh and the ringtones are horrible. Can't even find standard phone ring type sounds, so I borrowed some from the Incredible :). I also miss my flip clock home screen widget where I could touch the clock to get to my alarm clock and timer. Have to go searching for the clock app now. Fancy widgets has a very similar flip clock that doesn't flip just like when the Incredible first came out, but something about it just seems a little off. Oh and they got rid of the cool android smilies, but I think that's more of a ICS thing now. And the HTC keyboard is more intuitive.

Ha, I know it's not a GS3 forum, but those are some things I'm already missing from my Incredible in case any of you are thinking of getting a GS3. Sense gets a lot of crap from people, but it pretty much did all I needed it to do. With that said, I'm probably going to stick it out with the GS3 and catch HTC on the next train; that is unless Apple doesn't screw them over first .

I didn't even bother to play with the UI on the s3. My main concern was size, I already have one bulge in my pants, I dont need another. Lol jk bout the bulge but serious about it being too big. The phone that it.....

Does your other bulge have touchwiz?

The reason why the Incredible 4g is not breaking any sales records, heck not even generating any buzz is because of the following....

  • Poor build quality
  • Outdated design
  • Thick and bulky
  • Screen is too small for ICS
  • Poor quality materials
  • Childish color scheme with the red speaker grill and red button, coupled with the poor build quality and low quality materials it makes it look and feel like cheap childrens toy.

The Incredible series has never really generated a buzz (outside of the forums) compared to it's contemporaries. The only time the general public really knew anything about an Incredible series phone was with the first one, and that was because of it's unavailability. The Droid X & EVO overshadowed it with their larger screens. The Galaxy S series made a splash by having a model of their phones available on all major US carriers.

The Inc2 seemed almost like an afterthought. It was in the LTE phones' shadows.

For having an original Incredible yourself, why do you now consider the color scheme childish? It had a red speaker grill and camera ring just like the current Incredible does, they only added the red power button.

As far as build quality, I did get to handle one yesterday. I'd have to say the build quality was better than the original (which I still have), and the same or better than the Incredible2. Without having the original Inc with me, they basically have the same footprint (slightly larger) but with a larger screen, better internals, and LTE.

As far as the small screen, it's called options. I messed around with a dummy unit of the S3 yesterday, and for me one handed operation was a pain. If you want a larger screen, you have plenty of choices on Verizon. If you want a smaller screen, you have the Inc4G, the Droid4, and the iPhone.

But really outside of the original Incredible thread here on AF, none of the Incredible series has had the buzz or sales like it's Moto and Samsung counterparts. Actually the same could be said for any HTC phone on Verizon.

And yet, how did it sell compared to the other phones? It may have done well had it not been for the screen shortage, but even in the Android Forums and others there were people who were waiting on the EVO and the mystery Moto device (which ended up being the Droid X). Both of which outsold the original Incredible, and that was when there were nowhere near the options as there are today. At the time the Incredible released, there were around 5-10 other android models available tops with around another 5 or so tops on the horizon. I remember people back then complaining that there weren't hardly any commercials for it, that it was about a week or 2 after launch that we finally started seeing some ads for it. Verizon was still pushing the original Droid. But when the Droid X and Droid 2 launched, there were commercials for them ahead of launch. No matter what, HTC's Droids were always second fiddle to the Motorolas.

Btw, I used to think the Incredible had the most posts & threads of any phones on here as well, but a mod informed me that the Galaxy Nexus actually had more.

So you admin you are wrong. Thank you.

Where did I say that?

When I said overshadowed in my ealier post, I didn't mean in terms of thread or post count, I was talking in terms of sales. That's what this thread is about. I even said "The Incredible series has never really generated a buzz (outside of the forums)". Read the earlier post. The fact that the OG Incredible was outsold with not much in the way of competition, how would it's successor change that when the level of competition has tripled?

Don't bother, you're just going to encourage him and give yourself an ulcer along the way because he will never admit to being wrong.

Not that you need the validation, but you are correct and our friend has his head somewhere else.

I've got my 4g3 coming. My biggest concern at this time is lack of sales means this device just fades to black in terms of support from htc and the development community. Problems may just go unaddressed. Oh well, now I'm a guinea pig.

After next Friday I'll most likely be right there with ya.

Just waiting for one to sell on Ebay for under $350. Bid on quite a few of them now, but they keep going for over $400

Just an update on those verizon customer reviews. I checked and they are up to 27 reviews and a solid 4 stars. So, maybe things are heating up.

I am beginning to think I will give it till Fri. If no phone on Ebay sells for under $400 I will probably just bid on one for $400 give or take. The more I think about it the more I don't want to buy one a month or two from now used. If I can get one around $400 I still save $100 from full retail at Verizon.

Maybe you should see how today got his on contract and was able to keep his unlimited plan. While you might not get it as low as he did, it'd still be cheaper than $400. Just a thought.

Seriously? I PMed him, but I didn't read anything that said he got his on contract and was able to keep his unlimited data. If he did, I sure would like to know how. I've tried lots of things and can't get one person\place to even wave the $30 upgrade fee....

Check out the "Got mine...first impressions" thread. Last page post #106. Check it out.

I'm afraid that it'll be overshadowed by the Galaxy. Which is sad, because the specs are pretty nice. Heck, I remember the first Droid Incredible...there was a lot of advertisements for it.
