Solution to Google shipping mess?

Alternate solution to Google shipping mess for those who pre-ordered at the Play site: How about we all request that Google give us an additional Google Play credit equal to the shipping charge ($13.99)?

This doesn't get the N7 to us any sooner, but it would soothe the pain of paying for shipping only to find out we could have simply gone out to a B&M store and gotten the N7.

It would also be good PR for Google.

I would like to see it and I'm sure Google has seen that suggestion many times by now. :D

It would be a good PR move on their part but I'm skeptical it will happen. I've seen some posts that it was Asus' fault for shipping to the stores so I'm not sure Google can be blamed.

I don't get what "mess" you are talking about.

Some 3rd party retailers started shipping before they were supposed to, how is that the fault of google ?

Seems to me that Google could have controlled the supply such that they shipped their Play pre-orders before they shipped supplies to the 3rd party retailers, or at least timed it better. The perception and reality is that pre-ordering was not an advantage and incurred additional cost, thus creating some negative publicity. Regardless of the fault, Google could make this gesture (crediting shipping costs) that would increase customer satisfaction and loyalty.

I have a feeling they will be cracking down from this point on... Those stores are going to be lucky if they get included in the next round of devices which will really hurt GameSpot IMHO. I do agree about the shipping cost reimbursement but that's because I feel its a bit wrong to charge for shipping when you can get it for the same price local without paying for shipping. Had I known they were going to give B&M stores that cut of a price to be able to sell at the same price point as online I would have waited.... AND they didn't give a choice for a cheaper shipping....

TBH it would be nice just to see Google acknowledge that there was some problems (whether it was their fault or not) and apologize. That sounds dumb but I would take that over the 14$ of credit because at least to me it proves they give a crap about their customers.

Correct, the fact that this whole thing has been tight lipped, devices are finally starting to ship out, but still haven't had word on an official release day, and retailers selling stock as if it was already released, all seem real sketchy on Google's part.

Apologies are nice, but had I known I could just roll out to sam's club or gamestop and buy one on friday I would have, apparently pre-ordering the day it was announced at I/O doesn't mean a thing to google.

I would like to see where Google promised to send the pre orders before they would be available at retail. I don't think that they did, so there really is no argument.

I don't see the problem. They said pre orders would be fulfilled mid July. Done. It should have been better coordinated, but people are getting worked up over a day or 2 difference. Granted, I am surprised that Google didn't offer free overnight like Apple.

Pre ordering doesn't imply you are getting anything first, it merely means that you ordered the thing before it was officially available for purchase.

There isn't any wording anywhere in this offer either overt or implied about it arriving at anyone's door before it starts being sold in retail stores if it has been pre ordered.

Unless the party making the offer says explicitly that pre orders get special...anything, there won't be.

It is an incorrect assumption that people have taken it upon themselves to make, and one for them to have to come to terms with and remember in the future.

Exactly this.
