Root New ICS Leak .215!

:confused:If I am on a Stock OS, but have rooted and removed some bloat, can I install this update directly, or do I have to reinstall all the bloat first?

Depends on what you call bloat and how you removed it. Honestly i would use matts utility (1.81) to get back to stock first. After i used it, my phone was noticeably smoother and my quadrant scores improved.

Ive seen reports of people restoring bloat and the update not working. They had to flash back to stock using the utility anyway.

Everything I had disabled stayed that way after flashing. Retained root with voodoo and benchmark scores went up a fair amount. If the battery is better this update will be perfect.

You have to be totally stock to install this update. Use matt's utility to get back to .211 then you can flash this update.

I was on .214, rooted (D'oh), with a bunch of stuff frozen (nothing deleted).

I:

- Made a note of what I had frozen,
- unfroze it all.
- Installed Voodoo Root Keeper, backed up root, temp unrooted
- Downloaded and flashed the downgrade leak (6.16.214 Downgrade Leak (To 6.16.211) - DroidRzr.com) to get back to .211 (you have to do this for the .215 to install) and let the phone "optimize" all the apps and finish the reboot.
- Back into recovery, wipe cache and flash the .215 leak (6.16.215 Ics Update Leak (Install From 211) - DroidRzr.com) and let it finish it's thing
- Back into recovery to wipe the cache once more
- Reboot and recovered root using Voodoo Root Keeper
- Using my list, used the ICS "Disable" feature on those for which it will work (this keeps the OTA updates from happening - haven't figured out how to get TB to stop those) and then TB to freeze those things I want frozen which ICS won't allow one to disable.

Done! Total time - about 45 minutes.

Subjectively, it seems the phone is snappier, apps load faster, 4G connects more quickly (but just by a little). Looking at signal strength numbers (not bars) it appears 4G is about the same (at least at home). As for data drops - there's only one place I frequent where data drops happen and I haven't been there since the .215 flash. 4G speed is at least as good as before, maybe better. I just downloaded the ICS Getting Started Guide (PDF, 8MB) and the ICS User's Manual (PDF, 10.4MB) and I don't think it took 30 seconds for both.

Battery Life: Too soon to tell. I'll know more tomorrow. But, the phone runs much cooler than with .211 and, cooler than with .214 as well.

As has been noted before, this will take you off the OTA path, but it's also been shown that Matt's Utility (ver. 1.81, not 1.8!) will get one back to stock .211. When it comes time, I'll be trying the downgrade flash and see if that'll get me back to .211 without loosing all my apps/data.

I've been trying to do this, and it keeps failing.

I keep getting a

Signature failed: /tmp/sideload/package.zip invalid argument
error.

Anyone have any idea what's up with that. I'm running stock .211, rooted (I unrooted using voodoo prior to attempting this) and haven't uninstalled/frozen anything.

Perhaps it's a corrupt DL, try DL'ing it again. :)

I tried a few times. If I can find a different host (other than mediafire), I'll try downloading from there. But other then that I think I'll wait a bit, and will probably run Matt's Utility to flash back to factory .211, and install from there.

your download is probably ok. are you sure the file is in the root of your sd card? it cant be in any folder.

Don't notice a better LTE signal and phone seems to operate at the same speed. I do notice phone temp is a lot cooler though. On LTE mine would always be 99 to 102F. Just looked an hour after updating and it says 84F.

I installed two days ago. Since then I have noticed when dropping down to 3G from 4G I no longer lose data connectivity (which is awesome), like smurfe said above the phone runs a HELL of a lot cooler, and I have noticed a small improvement in battery life. Oh and one more thing GPS locks on a lot quicker. :)

I hope big red will push this out to everyone.

Seems to have helped battery life a little bit, but I think there are still issues with the kernal. I have about 33% remaining with 17:42 hours on the battery. An hour of that was streaming 4G and my 4G has been active all day.

The one think that concerns me is that Android OS is showing CPU Total 1h 35M and Keep Awake of 6h 34m. What is keeping it awake?

3 full charges... remember "batterystats" as part of the OS.

Kernel, not kernal:D:D

now on .215 still same data connectivity issues for me.

i can be sitting in a 4g area with up to ten miles in any direction of being FULL 4g according to verizons map and still loose data, pop into 3g and CANNOT hold a 4g signal for the life of me.

this happens in any 4g area not just my home area.

so just so everyone know, if you had data connection issues in the past this will not guarantee a fix!

Just an update after a week or so of this update. 4G battery life a bit better. If I lock on 3G it is a heck of a lot better. If I am on WIFI, I winder if it will ever go dead. Just went 4 days at home, on WIFI, moderate use, battery at 50% when I plugged it in charger last night.

See no real difference in better 4G or 3G signal. Haven't really played with GPS any other than the Home Setting settings in Smart Actions that turn on my ringer and connect to WIFI activate when I hit my driveway. When I leave the house in less than a block my phone will revert to vibrate for the ringer and WIFI search will shut off. I love this. I have been trying to get Tasker to do this forever. I am an idiot at trying to figure that app out. So I guess the GPS is hitting pretty accurate now.

Anyone have any install problems? I keep getting:

Assert failed: apply_patch_check
E: error in tmpsideload/package.zip
(Status7)

I posted on the other site but not much luck yet. Have deleted the update file and redownloaded and still no luck. Same error each time.

Thanks in advance.

You will get that error if you do not have the update in the root of your sd card. It shouldn't be in a folder nor an extension.
Also make certain you are on stock.2 1 1 without any bloat removed.

Finally got it working. Basically had to Fastboot .211 again (third time's a charm I guess) and then update to .215 and all is working now. Will see how things go over the next few days.
