Question about this...How would VZW know if your calling a land based phone or a cell phone?
Yeah $39.99 would be sick.
The wording is kinda sketchy... When they refer to network do they mean mobile phones only or does network include landline service? Probably just mobile the more I think about it
Maybe they just changed the wording on the banner?
Either way I'll take $39.99 to any # on any network. But if data goes up from $29.99 a month to say $49.99 a month I'll be pissed.

They can see the route a call takes and if it eventually switches over to POTS.
Absolutely right. Leaks are something that come with the territory and they have to realize that for better or for worse, leaks are going to happen. They know that a tiny percentage (namely us who are addicts in here) have already seen and read things that were never designed by Verizon (or HTC) to be seen. But then there are the "uh-oh" leaks that are far beyond their control. There's a certain degree of trust and confidentiality involved between employer and employee to not casually show off a mysterious, time-sensitive box that shows up out of the blue with "DO NOT OPEN WITHOUT FURTHER INSTRUCTION" written all over it. I realize full well that Verizon would never have wanted my VZW friend to show me that box and, in hindsight, I probably should never have posted about it as all it has done is ramp up the tensions and expectations for a lot of you in here. Not to ramble on, but what happened to me could have easily happened to anyone here who knows someone at VZW. It was just luck of the draw. And with the mere knowledge of mysterious packages showing up in recent days to some of us in here, Verizon and HTC are still none the worse for it. Let's face it - we're passionate as anything about their products, but even collectively, we're very, very small potatoes to them.
And all this "box leak" has served for me is a good dose of grief and frustration that I have no control over. I won't get any inside scoop on what that box contains until I am allowed to know. That's it. As for right now, it remains a leak with no means to an end. But when and if - for whatever it's worth - I am able to find out anything more, you'd better believe that you guys in here will be the first to know. Here's hoping that it's sooner rather than later!

They are very very sneaky? I dunno, I think they have technology that can tell? I know that is a horrible answer, but I figured they could..
I may have missed this in the flow of the forum, but does your source know when he gets to open then box yet / has the box been opened? I'm with a lot of others here that only believe a select number of people and you're certainly one of the ones I believe.
Originally I thought this was slick marketing to fool people as their any number on any network I feel means only unlimited mobile to mobile minutes and that you would still have a set of minutes, but then I was enlighten to that it's half the price it use to be.
So yes cheaper which is nice but still probably has a limit on minutes to all the non mobile numbers you might call.
Agreed. I also wouldn't be surprised to see VZW introduce a tiered data structure in tandem with this. I know the CEO has been talking about that for awhile.

Has anyone thought that this could be a typo? The pop over when you place your pointer over the offer still says $69.99.

True, we have. Could be they just haven't updated everything on the testman. I mean that banner is big, It'd be a BIG typo lol
That's what I was getting at... Make it look like your voice is cheaper (in reality you just get unlimited mins to mobile), but raise the data. Too bad I use like 150 of my 450 mins a month. I txt moderately (enough that I get by with the $10 txt plan), but once I get the Incredible my data will be used. They will most likely charge through the @ss for it.
VZW knows more and more people are txting and using data than mins.
He told me yesterday that the HTC rep. is supposed to come in TODAY and open the box. So, hopefully his friend will let him know what was in the box when he finds out. Remember, his friend who works at Verizon said that the HTC rep. hasn't been to their store since last fall around the release of the DROID. Also, he said that the last time that they got a box like that with the "do not open till further instruction" tape on it, was when they got the DROID. So...take that with a grain of salt, but at least it's something. Hopefully Montana will get some word from his friend today and share it with us. I hope it's a dummy HTC Incredible that is in the box.
In all honesty if they were to change plans to the point where Unlimited txt/pic is still $20, cheapest voice plan is $39.99 and then Data goes up I'd be extremely tempted to leave for another provider. I'm already paying enough as it is, and I use less than 150min a month. T-Mobile might enjoy me as a customer in that case...
Coulb be Verizons about to give all of us a taste of their old flagship The Storm The storm of hiher prices raining down on our arsesAgreed. I also wouldn't be surprised to see VZW introduce a tiered data structure in tandem with this. I know the CEO has been talking about that for awhile.
When I went to Verizon a few years back, it was because of their network. I lived out in the sticks, and only Verizon covered that area. Now, Sprint and AT&T do as well. My contract for my phone, my wife's phone, my child's phone, and the cell phone that we keep at the house is done at the end of April, and if I don't see something competitive from Verizon, I'm moving to a crappier network. The crap network providers cover my home, work, and in-between, so I might cry in my beer on vacations, but at least I'll have a decent phone to use the other 99.9 percent of the time.
I don't care if Verizon cares about people like me or not. I'll go to the business that suits me. If AT&T can provide me with a state-of-the-art phone, and coverage 99.9 percent of the time in the places that I go, I'll choose them over Verizon's offering of an outdated brick to use on their "stellar" network.

Question about this...How would VZW know if your calling a land based phone or a cell phone?
Yea.. Phone numbers are registered under a company. So i'm guessing if you call a number, they can tell which provider it is, and if its verizon and not verizon wireless, thats a landline.
I think the thing about the box that gives me the most hope is that it came from HTC. If this box was from Verizon I would think that we're giving ourselves false hope. In any case, if it's from HTC what else do we think it really could be?
