Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

On that note, let me add, that if I was the one over at Verizon making decisions, I surely would not have made any Incredible announcement the very same day that hesse announced the EVO. Doing so will be futile. What i do not understand is that from all accounts, I thought Hesse was going to announce the phone today at his keynote speech not a day earlier. That alone put a damper on verizon to announce anything. But i am sure that the incredible will be announced, if not today at least tomorrow. It won't be on the same level as the EVO, but at least for its current position (3g service) it will be a kick ass phone. Now if you include 4g service, then there is no competition as it stands now.

Only time will tell.

^ Bill, that's a heck of a reply! I pretty much agree with everything you said here. If my line was the only one I paid for, i'd be willing to switch to another carrier (in all honesty, i'd have done it along time ago to get the iPhone). My issue is my verizon account shares my phone, my fiance's, and 3 other lines! If i wanted to leave I would want to move everyone to keep things tidy and consistent and the cost of moving / terminating from VZW to anywhere else would cost me a small fortune!

I'm a total gadget freak and IMO, the EVO is probably the best looking, most feature rich phone I have ever seen, i'd love to have it.

If the Incredible ever gets announced, that would be enough to keep me happy for a while. The main things I am looking for at this point is a faster processor than the Droid and SenseUI (i absolutely love the interface -- best I've ever seen on a mobile phone).

Comparing what we know about the Incredible and the Evo... I hate to say it, but the Evo is just SOO much more of a phone and I'm definitely jealous of you sprint guys right now!

Dan Hesse's keynote address is at noon Eastern. He's supposed to demo the EVO and hopefully he'll have good news for us on the release date. The CEO of Clearwire is also giving a keynote, so we should learn more about WiMAX today as well.

The webcast can be found here. There's also a link to it in post #1 under "Helpful Links".

I dont agree. In my honest opinion, the Incredible being announced isnt going to do much for Verizon, it will simply please it's fan club here at Androidforums. Most Verizon folks are 100% happy with their Droid and would probably still choose the Droid over the Incredible mainly becase of all they hype and advertizing still surrounding that phone.

I personally (and unfortunately) do not believe that the phone is even worth really announcing, what does it do better than the N1? The N1 will be out soon and the only real diff is looks and SenseUI. I see Verizon sticking with it's love for the Droid for at least a few more months...

hey guys, i know that its pretty much confirmed we wont be seeing this phone come to Europe anytime soon, but what do u think of the chances of seeing a similar phone (4.3", android, 720p camera etc), without 4G and different branding by the end of the year?

I refuse to give up on having something similar to the EVO hit my country.

I've said this before in different parts of the EVO forum, that the Incredible is most likely an upgrade to the Eris like the Legend is to the Hero. I'm sure many would argue, but there's no doubt the Incredible won't have the power of the EVO. The thing I've noticed is that Verizon is doing a lot of heavy advertising on the Moto Droid. That phone is still fairly new and some say is the best Android on the market. I can't imagine with such heavy promotion on that phone that they'd bring out something kick ass right now to replace it. Can you?

highly doubt there will be a phone that can top this by June

including the iPhone

This is kind of true since no other carrier will have 4G by then so Evo will still have that advantage in the bag.

The question is if the new iPhone comes out around June with comparable or nicer hardware than the Evo plus a nice redesigned casing plus a nice software update with multi-tasking, possibly debuting on another carrier etc., how will the general public view the Evo vs. the iPhone then? Not sure if all the Apple fan boys and loyalists will jump ship to the Evo at that point or not.

Either way the Evo should be a decent success - the phone practically sells itself.

Sense UI is the only reason to get the Incredible over the N1. At least that's my only reason. In store support could be another. I would actually rather have the EVO over the Incredible at this point, even if it didn't have 4G.

Yeah, I think everyone is going to want the phone. Here in the US, Sprint came out with the HTC Hero, then about 6 weeks later Verizon brought out basically the same thing and called it the HTC Eris.

I can easily see a similarly specked phone going to other carriers, but it's going to be a long time before they're be able to run 4G. Still, I won't have that for awhile either, but I want this phone.

Hi Guys this is the longest thread i have ever read and followed in most i get lost after a couple of pages. Thanks for making it so awesome especially Billsmed. I have had a htc magic with HTC sense UI and Archos 5 android tablet. HTC EVO is like a fusion of those 2 devices which fits in my jean pocket. Trust me i have had troubles carrying both. Being a Google services user i love my htc magic and archos 5 but the EVO is something i would go for as soon as it releases.

I don't really care about the 4G at this point. It'll be a nice bonus though when it's available here in the Cincy area. The phone itself has plenty of everything else to offer that I've been waiting for.

Sprint EVO. That's it!

lol I saw this elsewhere and had to post it. lol

What's up dude...I've seen you over on 8thcivic.com a bit, even bought some stuff from you. Cool to find you here!

So Dan said in the first few minutes of his keynote that 4g won't cost the customer anything extra, soooo its still 69.99 for unlimited 3g/4g?! :D

They have been saying this for a while. People weren't believing it but frankly I think they are just not used to Sprint plans. They always throw stuff in at no extra cost. Verizon/ATT customers are too used to being nickel and dimed for everything :D

The point here is to get subscribers, plain and simple. Sprint has great plans and decent devices (great now) but they just haven't been able to break their reputation as a sucky 2nd rate carrier. The goal here is to position themselves as a premium carrier and not a crappy one and the only way to do that is to make excellent offers and get subscribers from the competition. Everyone who wants a phone has one so the way to make money now is to take customers from the other carriers. You do that with great devices and great rates.

No new word on the EVO release date or price.

Yea that kind of sucked not hearing anything....but no news could be good news too.

Maybe they want to do some real marketing for the EVO, full force 4G marketing. But they need to get the phone out relatively soon.

Looking at Sprint's phone lineup right now, its horrible. Aside from the Palm Pre(Which I have) the Samsung Moment and the Hero....there isnt a phone on there that I would consider buying.

I am. Watching it now at video.ctia.org

Glad to hear verification from the CEO that 4G plans wouldn't cost more than the usual ones. Didn't think they would but it's nice to get confirmation from the top.

Sounds like it. Pretty big deal - Sprint is the obvious best choice for the millions of people in 4G areas. Not to mention they can get a plan with 4G for cheaper than other carriers 3G plans.
