Root Installing ROM DGB

Hello

Sorry im very new to this so please forgive me for any stupidness on my behalf.

I have rooted my HTC Desire and installed a custom recovery on it. I have been looking to install the custom rom: DGB

i have downloaded the .zip file and tried to install it which it says its installed sucessfully however when it boots the android letters appear and the white light passes through however it sits like this for several hours and doesnt boot.

Has anyone installed this ROM or does anyone know of an install guide?

Many thanks in advance

Shaun

Did you do a factory reset before flashing the ROM?

If not, did you take a backup from recovery (aka a nandroid backup) before flashing?

System data are generally incompatible between different ROMs, and certainly are between HTC Stock and dGB. Hence you need to do a factory reset before flashing a ROM, or else it won't boot. Of course this wipes your data, so you want to back up first.

If you took a backup from recovery, restore that and you will be back where you were before flashing the ROM. You can then back up your apps and data at your leisure, then try again.

If you didn't wipe and didn't take a backup then you have 2 options:

1) back into recovery, do a factory reset. The phone will boot, but you've lost your data.

2) tell me what software version you were running before and maybe we can rescue your data.

The procedure for flashing this ROM is just that described in the rooting faq (linked in the All Things Root Guide sticky post) in the section on how to flash a custom ROM. Some require other steps first.

P.S. Welcome to AF!

P.P.S. I'm going to move this to the All Things Root forum. You'll get a better response there (I may not be around for much longer this morning).

I took a full backup and after it crashed i have sucessfully restored from it twice.

So if i boot to recovery and then format everything (-SD card) and then try to flash the rom that should work?

Thankyou very much for your help

yes it should. backup your apn's first too as dGb wont restore these. You will have to restore them or input them from your carriers website or you wont have 3g. (apn backup/restore from market has never let me down. )

thankyou to you all.

I wiped it and brilliant it works. my phone is soo much quicker and more space. I love it

with i had read your replies before doing it though. Ive got my gmail and maps etc back. just looking for the email icon for my works exchange account and then im 1 happy man :)

I'd like to pick up where Shaun left off if I may as I have an issue with dGB too.

I'd did a complete wipe and flash of dGB last night and after a few hiccups it was all sorted. Got my apps all on and working but what I didn't realise was that I was entirely working on my home wi-fi. When I actually left my home this morning I discovered that I couldn't get any internet data. I still receive texts and calls but nothing else. I've been through all the obvious menus and checked the settings but with no change which leads me to think it might be something I've done wrong along the way. Do I need to update my radio (it is 5.11.05.27 at moment)? Or is this not relevant?

Any thoughts?

Post 5 in this thread will answer this for you.

i had to disable 2g mode and also my internet settings were not correct.

Im with T-Mobile and the username and password was wrong. after updating that i was fine

which provider are you with?

dGB doesn't come with "internet settings". You have to back them up from before you flash the rom.

What affect will changing the hboot have? I have been running DGB for a week and like it. I will be staying with it, so should I hboot it?

Yeah so without the hboot, dGB is rattling around in a 250MB /system partition. That means 190MB of space is WASTED. Also 35MB space in /Cache, WASTED.

With the Hboot, take that 225MB Space and add it to the 148MB "Internal Storage" and get yourself 373MB for apps.

Not to worry actually! Found a fix - turns out the APN wasn't set up properly. Oops!

Thanks for the responses though guys.

Hahaha. Found the fix that's on the dGB website and in every response you received on this thread? Ah well done ;)

Now I understand. Thanks again. So I will do a Nandroid backup and then flash the dgb hboot.

cool yeah dgb is super light :) although ive never gone for smallest hboots - just stayed with cm7r2 as means i can switch to most decent roms easily ;)

Install the rom
nandroid backup
fastboot flash the new hboot
nandroid restore ;)

did it. it worked. i was able to flash dGB to my phone. thanks guys for all your help. also changed my hboot to the 60 mb version. having a long wait before it started up, gave me a scare of a lifetime.
now all i have to do is install my apn again. thanks shauny and SUroot.

hi guys rom is working well, i only have one small problem.

where can i find the following maps on my phone:
/system/media/audio/ui/
/system/font/

i need to drop some files in there. will be my last problem here. :o
after that going to do research on how to get more internal memory on a htc wildfire s from a friend.

Those are folder paths, so those *are* the locations you find them at. It's a bit like asking where you find C:\Documents and Settings on a Windows PC. :)

I guess your problem is that you don't have a file explorer that can show these folders. Try Root Explorer or ES File Explorer.
