Help 4G will not start for ~2 minutes after shutdown & battery-pull - why?

I don't know for sure if the trigger really is the battery-pull, as I rarely shut down and re-start my phone when not forced (among so many other things, it's my alarm clock for the morning too), but this seems to happen when I do this.

Sometimes, for whatever reason, apps misbehave, and I suppose running your phone for 72+ hours can bring out the worst in some of the otherwise good apps. When rebooting doesn't clear the burp, it seems to work when I pull the battery after shutting the phone down. Yes, even after I shut my phone down first (in the event that I am able to) it happens, and what happens is that it becomes unresponsive to the power button for what seems like at least two minutes! What's going on when it becomes dead like that? I'd just like to. understand this, and thanks if you can shed some light on it.

Have you tried force closing the application you are using at the time of the burp. Try clicking the application software key to the right side of the home soft key. Flick the offending application up and see if that works.

Yes, I did that, and it failing is why I resorted to re-booting. Failing that took me to the battery-pull, which I know is dangerose when done live, but when your screen becomes unresponsive and hot there is no other choice. That was not the case this time, the battery pull was done after a shutdown, and that was when the power button temporarily became unresponsive.

What I'm looking for concerning this is knowledge. I had the widget for My Tracks misbehave and become unresponsive (yeah could have just removed and replaced the widget, but I didnt), fail to respond to force-closing, and it was still bad after a reboot . I suspect the ICS reboot may not have been complete, but one thing I would like to understand is why my phone system seems to come up instantly even when I had shut it down for a few swconds, and at other times I'll see that Droid Eye staring up at me for a few minutes. Can any of this be tied to the widget for an app such as My Tracks displaying. inappropriatly even after a reboot?

The other question I will try and be more concise on - I did the battery-pull after shutting down my phone, after rebooting had failed After re-installing the battery, my phone would not not start - I had to wait a coulple of minutes before this was possible! what goes on when that happens?

Anyway, pulling the battery set my widget back to normal, even if I should have tried replacing it first. But other than me being dumb, I need to understand what happened!
 
Try un installing the my tracks application. Then reinstall. A bad install is a real possibility.
 
I had this problem and came super close to returning the phone. I was actually on the phone with the Verizon people, and I gave him my whole spiel about how I had the original Incredible and there's no way I should be questioned on this, etc. etc. And he basically said, "just humor me" and told me to hold down the power button UNTIL the phone powered on (this is after a battery pull). It took about 20 seconds, but it came on as I was talking to him. Of course I felt like a total idiot. He said, "The smarter these phones get, the longer they take to turn on." Basically what I was doing wrong was holding the power button in for awhile, giving up and letting go, and then repeating. I've tried it a couple times since then, and it's been fine. Not my only issue, but that's for another thread....

Sure it is a possible solution to a question which I didn't really ask, but thanks for reminding me anyway - I'll try it, and it probably won't change anything, and maybe there's a better app, because that one always locked up on my DINC OG as well!

On topic, I don't think My Tracks had anything to do with my phone's refusal to boot up (unless there's an electrical engineer present who thinks removing that widget or app would change my phone's stubborn boot behavior, which happens when I pull the battery with or without a failure (I used to routinely swap fresh batteries to my Droid OG).

Thanks for sharing this, I appreciate it! I wouldn't be feel like an idiot for this, and I just may call Verizon myself to press them on making sense of this. For example, I'd like to know what a phone getting smarter has to do with taking longer to boot. This problem never existed with the evolution of desktop computers as they got smarter, and you never had to hold the button in - how silly is that anyway? I have a bad feeling that our rates are going to go up higher than they ever should just to pay all the staff who had to answer questions such as this, but wasn't this inane design and cover statement their doing?
 
I have found that I have to hold the power button down for about 8 or 9 seconds for the phone to turn on. Wish the wife responded that quickly!
 
The issue is with the crystal inside the phone. If it is not balanced correctly it will take the phone time to lock onto the electromagnetic waves the crystal produces hence the phone is unresponsive. Once the crystal warms up slightly the magnetic waves align correctly and the phone begins to work.

This is why I like these forums......
I spent hours with those Verizon "geniuses" and they never explained it in a way us everyday users could understand..... and you just made it perfectly clear in less than a minute! Hats off to you!!!!!!

Did the Verizon rep blame the apps? That seems to be their excuse for everything this month.
