Jelly Bean launcher

I use the default TouchWiz launcher on my ICS S3. When Jelly Bean comes out and I upgrade, will I still have the TouchWiz or will it give me a new launcher?

I love TouchWiz, so when I upgrade I would really love to keep it.

out of curiosity...what is it that you like so much about the TouchWiz launcher??...

I only ask because quite often 3rd party launchers will give you everything you're looking for and more if you know what you're looking for, and can really help the phone feel snappier as well...

I've spent hours playing with Launcher Pro, Go Launcher, and Apex launcher and I just can't customize them to my liking. I like how TouchWiz scrolls between pages and the placement of the indicator. Also, I use a time/weather widget that only works on TouchWiz. I haven't figured out why... It just won't show up in the widget pages on other launchers.

I just got my galaxy a few weeks ago and it's my first android device. I'm not totally used to it yet

that transition(or something very similar) is available on paid version of Nova Launcher ($4) im not sure about the paid version of Apex as i have not bought it yet...

might want to check out "Beautiful Widgets" on the market...there are some great skins for that

Apex and Nova are great for our ICS devices. Personally, I use Nova and I love all of its features. Love the way I can customize to my liking.

Beautiful Widgets is a must. Everything else mentioned, I haven't found a launcher that doesn't have that

This might need to go in a separate thread, but since it's been mentioned a few times, is anyone else having problems downloading skins in Beautiful Widgets? After downloading them, they'll say "downloaded" in the skin preview, but won't show up under the Installed Skins section.

Edit: scratch that, update available today.

same goes to me . even i'm using nexus i'm still in love with touchwiz . if touchwiz5 launcher release for Jelly Bean it would be awesome

I keep TW mainly for the alphabetical list view type in the app drawer, and the ability to tap a letter to jump to apps starting w/that letter in the list. It's a WP7 rip off, but it's very intuitive. I can't go back to pages of icon grids and moving my eyes both horizontally & vertical in search of an app. I'm surprised other launchers don't offer this.

I stayed on touchwiz until recently because it is much smoother than Nova and Apex, using both of which I experience lag when swiping between home screens. Touchwiz is flawlessly smooth in that respect.

I now use Go Launcher though because I love the outside cube transition, and it seems just as smooth as touchwiz.

The only thing I don't like about Go Launcher is setting up icons on the home screens. It's not as easy and intuitive as Touchwiz, Nova, or Apex when you want to place an icon on the homepage of your choosing - you can't just drag an icon off the side of a homepage and onto the adjacent page; it takes you to an overview of all the pages, and you have to work out which page was the adjacent one, and if you take too long working it out it opens whichever page you happen to be hovering your finger over, forcing you to dump the icon on that page instead, or start the process again.

Also, Touchwiz has that nice feature in the app drawer where you can drag an icon down to Info and it will open Application Manager for that particular app. I'm missing that in Go Launcher.

But it should be noted that Samsung may make changes to TW when they put it on JB. Who knows, maybe they've gotten enough grief about the step backwards for folder creation that they'll just go with the default JB setup.

I use TouchWiz. I like the gestures, the transition is smooth, and it does everything I need it to do. The folder icons look like crap, and you can't drag one icon onto another to create a folder. Those are my only issues with it, so I've stayed with it so far. I have Nova on my tablet, and it's Ok.

I think people put too much merit into third party launchers. Just because Jimmy, Joe, and Jane think it's better to use third party launchers doesn't mean it's better for you. Some people can't stand TouchWiz. That's cool, and for those people, there are alternatives.

I will say that the TouchWiz lockscreen had to go, pronto. I love widgetlocker :)

how does the battery fare when using a launcher? last android phone i used was an atrix and when i used a launcher my batter life took a big hit.

I am using Apex and the Jelly Bean launcher and honestly if i was not I would be returning the phone. The icons and look in general of Samsungs icons just make android look like it did 4yrs ago. Very ugly looking IMO...

Switched to the Jelly Bean theme and the phone just has a more classy feel to it now. No noticeable effects on battery life as far as i can tell.

eh, for the most part while i LOVE the color scheme of AOSP ICS/JB i think the overall presentation is amateur hour at best from a design standpoint

In my experience, all third party launchers (aka, all that are not TouchWiz) drain down your battery faster than normal. Dunno why.

So its a give and take and you shouldn't use one unless there are features you really want that are unavailable on TouchWiz like transition effects or alternate icons or extra homescreens.

I agree with one of the above posters though, WidgetLocker is unquestionably better than TouchWiz's native lockscreen.

to be honest...ive never lasted more than a few days with a stock launcher on an Android phone...so i just don't notice any potential battery drain...
