I agree..

Yeah but to be fair mine DID scratch under normal use, very light use actually. Again I Mean not overreacting and going to rush to put kevlar Armor on the screen but. People do need to understand that the GG isn't infallible so they can make their own choice.

It's not myth, it's fact. GG is scratch resisted. I didn't say proof, People need understand the 2.

I've been a proponent of screen protectors on this thread but not for resale value. My argument has been against those who say they aren't necessary because "Gorilla Glass will prevent scratches...blah blah...". It's a myth and people who don't know better may believe that and get the wrong idea. Your post is yet another example that shows that GG can be scratched.

I've seen people reason that a scratched screen may lower resale value and that seems pretty likely. But to me, and I suspect most people, that's not the best reason to use a screen protector. The logic behind using a screen protector is so that you don't have to look at scratches on your otherwise beautiful screen. Not much to wrestle with in that logic. I don't agree that a high quality screen protector such as one from Steinheil adversely affects the screen feel. At least not as much as ugly scratches affect the screen's appearance. I suppose it's up to you to decide if you would rather look at scratches every time you look at your phone or accept the slight decrease in screen smoothness. I have used unprotected GG and I found the difference between that and the feel of the Steinheil screen protectors I've used to be minor enough that it was hard to detect and something that I quickly got used to. None of my phones have ever been scratched but I've seen enough that have to know that I can quickly forget that I have a screen protector on my phone but ugly scratches would annoy me every time I looked at my phone. YMMV, of course.

No doubt there's a lot of personal preference involved here. But there's little doubt that a scratched screen can lower the resale value of a phone and GG can be scratched. If a person has super sensitive fingertips and doesn't mind looking at scratches (or accepting the risk of scratches) then don't use a screen protector. That's logic that I don't have to wrestle with. :)

Definitely put a skin on it. Any phone nowadays needs one. Make sure it's a good brand too. My galaxy has gorilla glass and it didnt stop it from getting a scratch. However, my screen protector from xoskins.com filled in the crack and it seems impossible to scratch on purpose now. I suggest checking them out.

Gorilla Glass does not need a screen protector

I originally had a Zagg on my Droid Incredible but it orange peeled within weeks so I ran without a screen protector for 2+ years and had no issues.

Unfortunately within 48 hours, I found a scratch on the glass of my new SGIII. I try to be extremely careful with the phone (no keys, coins in pocket, always wipe the surface I place it on, etc) so I honestly have no idea how I ended up scratching it.

I got the SPIGEN/Steinheil Ultra Nano's for about $5 each http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008DZH2IM/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i02 and have been happy so far.

doesnt that have a bunch of words and arrows telling you what the buttons do?? mine did, i was contemplating leaving it on till i got a proper protector, but looked at it for about 4 1/2 seconds and came to the conclusion that it would drive me flipping bonkers...

Mine didn't, even had a "considerate" break-off tab at the top corner so that the "temporary" protector could be used without the tab getting caught on things. I broke off the tab so that I could leave it on for a few days before a more permanent one. Ironically, it got caught on my pocket at the bottom one of the first few times I stuck it in, got all linty, so off it came. I've really come to appreciate the smoothness of the glass.

tell me about it! mine had the tab too, but it didnt seem like the lettering and stuff was on a separate film that could peel off, so i just tossed it. my case came with a screen protector, but i dont wanna put it on because the glass is so smooth. i kept having it slide off whenever i set it down on an uneven fabric surface. my vibrant never did that...
no arrows or icons on mine.

i rounded off the parts that covered the led and the camera on the original protector so it doesn't catch on the inside of my pocket. my son removed it last night, much to my dismay, but i took some scotch tape, lifted any dust off the sticky side and put it back on. works fabulously. :)

until my sgp gets here in "early to mid august" :(

I was wondering who uses a screen protector for this phone? And if you do which brand do you use? Thanks for your input

Steinheil Ultra Nano. It's the best one if you value clarity and glass like feel. I've had a Skinomi, extremeguard, Verizon branded, and freebies from cases. The Ultra Nano is by far the best. You can hardly tell you even have one on the phone.

Ventev Ultra-Thin Anti-Glare & Anti-Fingerprint Screen Protector For Samsung Galaxy SIII - 2 Pack

I purchased the Anti-Glare ones for my S3 at the Sprint store and I love them. They go on in about 1 second and have this anti-glare matte finish they keeps smudges and the glare off the screen. Love em!!!

UPDATE:

I Found the package. I don't see this brand in the POLL. They are Fantastic! Easiest Screen protector I have ever put on and I love the anti glare\anti smudge characteristics of these!!

Just to add a comment: I ordered the Ringbo screen protector and reluctantly put it on after enjoying the feel of the bare glass since getting the phone. Something I noticed while looking at the screen carefully, despite never putting it in a pocket with anything else and being as careful as I could, I do have a very small, superficial scratch in the glass. I could really only see it at a certain angle and can't see it anymore now that the protector is on, but it was there after cleaning the glass.

One thing I didn't think would bother me but does a little is that this protector "only" goes up to the height of the speaker. While I have a case on the phone, I do occasionally rub against the top edge while pulling down the notification bar. Similarly, the bottom only extends to the level of the bottom of the home button, and while visually apparent, it hasn't been a tactile issue. I also didn't realize how close the dimensions of the cover are to the display, very small room for error, I started off looking pretty straight at the top but am maybe half a millimeter off at the bottom, so a tiny fraction of the actual display is not covered on one side. Because I have a case on, the uncovered outer edges are not as apparent. I ordered this one in anticipation of the curved Steinhell that covers the whole screen not being out for a while, despite that being the one I would've liked to put on.

The initial feel was very sticky and plasticky. Now that my fingers have been all over it for a couple days, it is a lot smoother. I believe the oleophobic coating makes finger oils stand out much more though (I noticed this on my previous steinhell crystal clear on another phone as well) compared to the bare glass. "Slicked up" with finger oils, it doesn't quite feel as smooth as the bare glass, but is still pretty smooth.

As far as interference with the touchscreen, there have been a couple times where it seems my finger swipes don't do anything. Both times were while I was in the same app (a browser), so I can't say it's not the app. Both times I tried to wipe the screen and the problem resolved though.

Looks like an interesting idea. Some thoughts: I wonder how much it is though, enough to overcome the easy disposability of the plastic protectors whenever there's a scratch? 0.4 thickness might be enough eliminate some of the "buffer zone" in front of the screen that cases create when placed facedown. I would love to have a screen protector that has the smoothness of the bare glass though.

Thanks for the ZAGG HD info. I got one person to respond in this thread http://androidforums.com/android-accessories/585031-zagg-hd-vs-zagg.html , but was looking for a second opinion.

I would steer away from the ZAGG HD. I am currently trying to get a refund on mine. It installed with the same level of difficulty as ZAGG's previous products, which is to say that it is not particularly difficult. Unfortunately, while I was squeegeeing out some of the bubbles, I noticed that the squeegee was leaving "dents" in the surface of the protector. I called ZAGG to inquire about this, and they assured me that they would disappear after a few days due to the self-healing properties of the protector. Now I have had it on for about a week, and the dents are still there, as are new dents from my finger nails, and whatever else has bumped the screen. This is a defective screen protector, and I would recommending looking at other options.

I've always like the wet apply type like the Zagg. Even though it changes the texture it gave it a very solid protection feel.

BUT, I always got with the no-name ones at a fraction of the cost. These are my favorites.

At 2 for $7.00 I consider them practically free, and no big deal if you decide you don't like it and take it off. Absolutely the best customer service an 2 day shipping time

Zagg skins are terrible in my experience. I bought one and within two weeks the corners were peeling. They wanted me to pay 20 bucks to replace it. There happened to be a booth in the mall by zagg that told me they'd give me a discount to switch and guaranteed free replacement for any issues. Although I have yet to have any, this skin is the best I've had.

Are their screen protectors already out for the S3 or if there aren't, which one should I get for temp use that will most closely fit the S3?

I want to buy one before my pre-ordered phone arrives.

Go to xoskins.com. They have the skins and offer material you can cut to fit I believe. And don't go to zagg, or invisishield. Had both and my phone looked like an orange and the shields lasted 4 to 5 months. Then I was charged for a replacement. Had my skin on my iphone4 from XOskins for a year haven't had to replace it and if I do, it's guaranteed free.

Just wanted to get your inputs. Have the Zagg full body film protector, or get a case for the S3?

The full body protector will mean *squat* if you drop it.....

The Zagg is a good first step, but get a case...

I have a full matte phantomSkinz and a Incipio case.... I don't plan to drop it, but stuff well happens.....

The screen and phone both need to be protected.

hey guys, i'm planning to get the spigen curved crystal but wanted to put something on there for the mean time. Do any of you want to split a 3 pack of the nano with me? Its 13.99 on amazon. pm if your interested

It's not listed, but I really love ArmorSuit. I've been using them for awhile and have them on just about every device in the house.
