On a separate note why do you think they went with micro usb for charging/syncing? I mean that HDMI out is as big as a mini USB.

I was worried that the only port on the bottom would be the hdmi and you'd have to use adapters for usb charging or syncing, so I'm very glad that it has both. In my car for instance, a simple micro usb to full usb cable keeps my phone charging in a power inverter, while the headphone jack goes to the aux input of the stereo. In that particular case, it would be better for the 3.5mm jack to be on the bottom, but it makes more sense for people using it as an ipod in their pocket for it to be on top.

The hdmi port will be used far less frequently than the usb for 99% of people.

I think they're trying to make that universal on all cell phones now. One other separate note: I like the picture you just posted, but it's s t r e t c h i n g everything. Would it be offensive if I ask if you couldn't re-size it to 640 px?

Thanks for posting that, I hadn't seen it. I was picturing using the phone in landscape mode with the kickstand as an alarm clock/bedside internet device at night, but that would be awkward with the charging cable sticking out of the side. I will definitely buy the dock!

BTW, have any of you found any good hands on videos in good light, besides the two engadget videos? Everything I've found is in a dark room with blue lights and it's hard to see anything. It would be great if there was one post with a collection of all the videos that can be found.

By far the BEST of the BEST. This phone is wild with goodies. Great carrier, and by the way Bill, great thread. To repeat myself, I am not down on this device or the carrier......jus ,like every one, I wanted it now. Finding out that I have to wait some more is a buzz kill. I will get over it and more than likely get this wonderful techno tidbit the day it is released like the rest of the folks here. Didn't mean to cause such an emotional response. That dock looks hot, gotta have!!!!!

White Noise, when I clicked the link you gave for that picture, I couldn't help but see this, which was written by Android Guys:

"Right off the bat, my first impression was that the phone had a substantial weight to it. Although not too heavy, it feels like you have a quality phone in your hand. I was told that the form factor we played with is not final nor was the OS build."

Maybe that explains why the summer release? Can you imagine what else the EVO will have to offer? Since the Qualcomm 1.3 was released to manufacturing back in January, maybe that will explain the OS build part or maybe Android 3.0? What the heck, I can wait a little longer. Right now, I feel fortunate that they release the specs and pictures. This is great!!!:D

No offense taken. Sometimes I forget not everyone has a giant wide-screen where they work and play. Should be fixed.

For more pictures and videos, look at other threads in this forum. When I find some real good YouTube videos, I'm going to put them in post #1 of this thread.

NP. Not sure if these are better than you have seen but here is a collection of videos so far Might want to add this link to the front page Bill: Sprint HTC EVO 4G: Hands on wrap up – Android and Me

Yeah, you're probably right, Covert.

@senormatt - that's a tuff one to imagine, isn't it? I did read somewhere that some of the red will be replaced with silver, so maybe that's what they're talking about.

If they put in a 1.3GHz then I am all for waiting. My concern is this phone will be outdated before its launched.

I don't see it being outdated but I can see it being out-hyped! But theres only one phone that can do that and WE all know what that is! I've said before I don't think Sprint can/should wait untill summer they can lose alot of hype if something compairable is coming out!

Kinda like the HD2 arriving 2 weeks after Windows announces Mobile 7, or more properly "Windows Phone 7 Series" (I hate that name). From what we've seen, it sounds like the EVO developers actually planned for the Android 3.0 upgrade. As for the processor, we can only hope if the 1.3 or 1.5 ghz processors reach mass production sooner than expected, that Sprint utilizes them. But it sounds like they aren't supposed to arrive until the end of this year.

@WhiteNoise - Nothing else will have 4G for at least 2 years, and I don't see anyone else besting any of the specs. As far as the 1.5GHz Snapdragon I did read some reports that some devices may use it before year's end, but we're probably talking about a laptop, netbook or a slate. I did see where the 1.3 GHz went to limited manufacturing back in January, but that is a single core chip. I haven't seen anything on the 1.5 GHz which is dual core. As awesome as that sounds, I doubt we'll see it on any phone this year. That particular chip supports 1040p, so down the road there might be some real nice products using it.

I don't have any inside information nor do I profess to know everything, but I've been reading a lot about this stuff over the past few months and that's what I'm basing my opinions on.

Anyone heard anything on the Evo having an oleophobic screen like the iphone and hero do!?
With a 4.3" screen I think it is a must. What do you guys think?

Out hyped is nearly the same thing IMO.

@WhiteNoise:
What do you think you can do with a device that has a 1.3ghz processor that you can't do with 1ghz? The answer is that there would be no noticeable difference. Like mentioned above, the next major upgrade in processors will be dual core 1.5ghz, and that will bring 1080p video recording/output, and most likely first on a larger tablet.

And why do you care if the hype dies down about the phone between now and its release? Are you more interested in using the device, or having it increase your bragging rights to people on the street? I personally don't care if there are better devices announced after I get the SS, because that won't change the phone's capabilities, which are groundbreaking and anstounding.
