Root Will there be ICS Android Revolution HD ROM for the HTC Desire HD?

Thanks. You made up my mind. I will go with ARHD GB for now (add one download to their list and let them know we are still alive), and pray for ARHD ICS.
 
ARHD for the DHD is based on the newest unbranded RUU(GB and sense 3.0), and ARHD 3.0 is based on the inc s latest firmware 4.10.405.1,so i would venture to guess that if/when there is an unbranded ICS for the DHD the ARHD gents will jump on it.

GB ARHD for the DHD runs nicely,tho there are some sense based ICS roms out,if that what your cup of tea is...

as D-U-R-X said,with nandroid backups its easy to go back if you dont like a new rom :) give a few a shot
 
To expand a little on what both Scotty and myself have mentioned...

If you want to put a different ROM on your phone, make sure that you do a full backup in ClockWorkMod first... always best to have a backup to restore should anything go wrong (things shouldn't go wrong, but there's no harm in being prepared. Once you've flashed a ROM, you may decide it's not for you and that you want to go back... better to have the option :)
 
Was looking at the app (I hope you guys are talking about the app). Looking at the options, it makes me feel pretty safe about trying different ROM's.

By the way, decided to buy the premium version. Saw the additional features, and looks like it really will be worth it.
 
ClockWorkMod is the custom recovery that is installed during the process of rooting using the AAHK. It is where you would head to to flash ROM's, make backups and restore any backups you have previously made :)

If you need any help at all, let us know and we will be able to walk you through the process :)
 
Sorry, I confused ClockWorkMod, with the ROM Manager by CLOCKWORDMOD.

Looking around the interface of the ROM Manager app, it looks like it would make is easier to back-up and install ROM's. When I install my first custom ROM, I kind of want to do it the old fashioned way. At least one time. Strange I know... but I think maybe you guys understand.

First question (you guys offered):

What has been keeping up the past three nights, even before I rooted was what ROM to start with (I used to think in terms of what ROM I would install... I think I will wind up with several).

IceColdSandwich comes highly recommended. But I use HD recording from time to time, which I understand is a bit of a problem with any 4.0 based ROM for now.

Was looking at the XDA thread for IceColdSandwich. It looks like it ends at 8.04 and the developer will be working on a JB version next. So, the camera issue on the IColdS probably won't be fixed.

So was thinking go with ARHD 7.04 now... and wait for ARHD 8.

In any event, this feels a lot better than sitting a waiting for a ICS ROM for HTC which is probably never coming. I no this is odd, but all this make me feel... well not helpless. It is nice to have options again.
 
Don't use his ROMs, so didn't know - thanks for the advice EP!

As a bit of advice... actually do your backups/restore from within ClockWorkMod, rather than with ROM Manager... only what I was told :)
 
I am having second thoughts about the ROM Manager.

I realize before going any further I should back up my current rooted stock 2.33 ROM. Maybe I should have done it after flashing. So anyway, I went into HBoot and did a back-up.

Since flashing I did the following:

Set up my Gmail account and updated Gmail.
Updated Twitter and set up my account.
Installed Swiftkey, Task (by Team Tasks), Explorer (by Speed Software) and Screen Lock & Off.

Am not productive without these :)

Resulted into a small 608MB back-up.

Is my back-up okay... or should I back up from as clean a set-up as possible?

that is a smart idea,IMO. i would pretty strongly advise against the use of rom manager. it is not very reliable,and it is an app,in a working rom,and as such it will not always be available for you to use.

it is much,much better to manually backup,restore,etc. in your custom recovery(clockwork in your case). its safer,and more fun ;)

now this,also,is a very smart idea. its always good to have a good working backup on the sd in case you need it. i always backup a good working rom. :cool: as far as backing it up after install,or after set up,thats completely up to you. it could be nice to have a clean slate of sorts to go back to if needed,but if youre trying a new rom,its also good to backup what you have if its running well and you like it. that way,if you dont like the new rom,you can restore your backup and pick up pretty much exactly where you left off :)

After some consideration I decided to go with ARHD 6.3.3. I think I want to see what it it is like to have root powers, in a familiar environment.

Installed it using HBoot to Wipe (Super Wipe).
Than used HBoot to install ARHD 6.33.

It kind of reminds of when I was younger (about 10 years ago), overclocking by going into the bios.

This is so cool, and you gents are terribly helpful.

You know, once you get into this... there is no going back.

Hhhmmm... maybe I should flash a new radio :)

Lemme read up a bit more on that.

Glad to see you're on board!!

You'll be flashing ROMS daily, it does get kind of addictive, always wanting something different/ better and now the JB roms have started to hit...I guess I'll have to start over again!

One thing I would say is....Unless there is a real issue with your Radio I would leave well alone and not bother flashing a different one, more people seem to brick their phones flashing radios than they do rooting them.

Radio works fine... signal of voice and HSDPA is as before. GPS works (not sure if that is part of the radio). It crossed my mind since the ARHD developer said "With 6.3.x ROMs I strongly recommend flashing 12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M radio".

I am not sure what is the reason though. Still going through the XDA thread.

this saying comes to mind:

"if it aint broke,dont fix it!" :D

if your signals are good and everything is solid and reliable,i dont see alot of reason to cahnge it. it may work marginally better with the reccomended radio,or dep on your carrier and location,it could actually work worse :eek: theres not any way to find out other than to try it. weather or not its worth the risk of trying it is up to you,just remember that a bad radio flash can leave you with an expensive paperweight,so double and triple check md5s of any radio file/tool you intend to flash/use. absolutely nothing wrong with staying as you are. :)
 
Most likely I will stay where I am. The courage to flash was probably an adrenaline rush caused by HTC's announcement of the cancellation of the HTC ICS update :D

But... just in case I do, and in part to share what I found out here goes:

PD98IMG-12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M.zip

also note that you do not need the eng hboot,nor do you need the AAHK.

you can downl,rename PD98IMG and simply flash in hboot :)
-make sure sd card is FAT32
-place PD98IMG on sd
-boot to hboot
-allow file to update
-reboot
*immediately delete or rename PD98IMG

just please double and triple check the md5 so you know your flashing a good file:

Thanks for the like D-U-R-X.

HTC cancelling the ICS update is the best "update" I ever got. Lemme give my phone a rest... and in few days, do a backup with ClockWorkMod and try something cold without Sense.
 
Hollering...

One last issue. I think when I install the ARHD ROM. I failed to install the O/C Deamon. When I flashed the ROM I recall something about it canceling 4ext. Also I am pretty sure it did not ask me if I wanted to select yes or no to O/C Daemon.
