dhacker has an alpha CM10 (JB Rom) I couldn't get data to work but others have. Try it!!!

That's because CM is usually at the forefront laying the groundwork for everyone else. Many times, other devs start with what CM has put together and build their custom ROMS from there. Some are more stable than others. CM on the OG Droid was and is rock solid stable as are many of the ROMS built from it. You are obviously free to load or not load whatever ROM you like but remember, ALL custom ROMs (and leaked/cheesecake "official" ROMS) are use at your own risk...

The other reason that there is stuff not working is directly related to our locked bootloaders. With them being locked, we are not able to flash custom kernels, which also means that we are not able to load all the drivers that we need to use our phones fully.
CM even says it is not supported on our phones, but some of us chronic crackflashers like to try new things anyway.

the first android phones didn't have locked bootloaders. i don't think htc has locked bootloaders. least mine didn't with sprint. so you can't point to the bootloader.
not having a functioning phone is the reason i gave up on roms.
i like a LOT of stuff that has been put out there. heck, i even try just becuase i'm tired of all the defects the phone has. and every once inawhile i find something that has functionality. and everything works. but then an update comes out. and things quit working. so i go back to stock.
it's fun to screw around with my phone. but i also like my phone functioning 100%.
roms aren't for everyone. and with others it's either partial or full joy.

If you want data to work, you can try to flip Airplane Mode on and off until it works.

Not to mention that HTC devices have locked bootloaders but can be easily unlocked.
On a side note when you go to the ICS leaks, they don't have the data drops. Well, unless you try miui. They haven't got data down yet. Oh well.
As far as jellybean goes, I'm running it on my nexus s 4g and love it. My bionic is parked right now, not too sure I would even consider giving it a go.
bionic or not. the comment was about functionality and roms.

Which was a reply to my post which was directed at BIONICs. Kinda hard to start comparing devices b/c ROMs for each device work completely different. In my D1 i was flashing everything including kernels, fat chance of me currently doing that in my BIONIC.
The reason this is a MAJOR issue is that without the ability to flash a kernel, you're extremely hard pressed to get drivers for ALL the hardware working b/c you're stuck with whatever kernel is already on the phone. And the reason you cannot flash a kernel is....
