I haven't rooted my phone yet as I see no point in rooting it if we don't have a custom recovery. I will root once/if we have a recovery but will the update cause the root we have not to work?

We are not sure, it may make it so we have to use another method, but we have several methods now so it should not be a problem. I'm rooted and have been waiting for the darn update to show up with no luck yet

Well for jcase's method it should still work. His method takes flashing the entire firmware file so I can't see that being able to be blocked. The issues with that method is that it is currently the release version firmware which is zv4. Assuming the OTA update is zv5, using jcase's method will revert you back to zv4. If you install the update and then root with jcase's method you will be back where you began and then your phone will probably bother you about upgrading again

As far as greatpune's method it will be a matter of trying it to see if anything has been done to block that method. Hashtag's method is based off of greatpune's

I've also been waiting on the update myself!

cant wait for my rom sized update just sos i can doodle in ONE app!!! im thrilled really. virgin mobile usa. we push crap updates...ice cream sammich??? are you mad man?? lol nothing here yet either. :-/

My phone keeps bugging me to install. Does anyone know where it is stored, I'm going to delete it if I can find it. I screwed up by turning on the background data, that's when it downloaded it I think.

I could not care any less about the Quickmemo app. Is there anywhere that tells what else has changed/been updated on this new release. I'm not rooted, but I still don't want to take any chances of it messing up my phone and having to reinstall everything. What's in it for me on this update?!?
Thanks

The only changes you will see are the new Quickmemo app and an updated My zone account app.. It also adds a Sprint Installer app but this is a background app so who knows what it does.

Other changes include patching all existing apps (reason unknown), updating recovery (The only change i saw in recovery was being able to install updates from external sd) and patching the boot partition (Probably to support the recovery changes) and an updated radio image (Don't see any change in signal or data between old and new)

If it wasn't for the constant nagging I wouldn't have installed it. I don't think it will do anything to your phone and shouldn't lose any data. If you don't mind the nagging you can avoid installing but it will probably make you at some point in time

So I think I installed the update. I told it to, it showed the progress bar under the Android unboxing and appeared to update normal. I see the Sprint Installer in the processes. However, the odd thing is I cannot find QuickMemo in either Stock launcher, Holo Launcher, Widgets, or Short cuts. BUT it is listed in Settings/Applications with size of "0.00B".

What's up with that?

If I look in Settings/About... , version or whatever, what can I look at to tell if it is updated?

thanks

Quicknemo is a background app and doesn't have icon in launcher. You start it by pressing vol up and down at same time for a few seconds

You can look in the settings->about this phone and see if you are updated.
Baseband version will start with "VM696ZV5". Build number will start with "ZV5". Software version will be "VM696ZV5". All those "V5" should be "V4" in the original fw.

I installed the update and am happy I can now take a screen shot also. Plus it is a neat little app. I like ii.

Does anyone know if this "fixes" the "bug" in the phone's firmware that VM CS told me was the reason for the Error 67 after installing any app that enables wifi hotspot generation?

Does anyone really know what the actual cause for the Error 67? It's too convenient to me that only programs that (even just installed, if not even used) allow hotspot generation result in a data-connection error. And if this really were a known "bug"--literally what the CS rep told me--one would think it to be fixed...right?

So, anyone with this most recent update tried installing a wifi hotspot app like Quicksettings? NOTE: If you didn't know already, the only fix VM will give to you if you get the Error 67 is a factory reset (wipes all data)--so try at your own risk...
