Root Root resolved,CWM recovery not*Please help! Bootloader unlocked, s-on, Unable to root. Please help!

Newbie
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Bootloader shows:
unlocked
Marvelc PVT Ship S-on RL
HBOOT- 1.10.0001

It scrolls several messages regarding PG76.DIAG, .img, .zip etc. when entering Hboot resulting in No Image messages

Android version is 2.3.4

Have tried many ways of rooting with no success. Given it's current state, what steps should I go through at this point to get it rooted??

Thanks in advance,

Luke

Welcome to Android Forums! :hello:

This is normal and happens every time you boot into bootloader with an SD card installed.

Have tried many ways of rooting with no success. Given it's current state, what steps should I go through at this point to get it rooted??

Thanks in advance,

Try starting at step 4 of this guide:
http://androidforums.com/wildfire-s-all-things-root/480954-guide-how-root-wildfire-s-s-finally.html

Post back in that thread if you run into trouble. Hope this helps!

So I did in fact do all of this previously, but tried again with the same results: At the flash root.zip part I click on recovery and it just restarts to the HTC white screen and boots like normal...

Thanks again,

Luke

I'm sorry, I just realized you said to post problems in that thread.... Should I just re-explain everything in that thread (page 15 I believe lol...)??

Thanks again for your help (and patience),

Luke

The thing is that some phones have that problem. If you are sure you've installed it properly and you still don't get it working, then it's a device problem. A friend of mine has the same problem.
Somehow it is impossible to get recovery working. And at the moment there is no solution. But eoghan2t7 is working on a solution over at xda. Check out the site every now and then to see if there is a fix.
[S-off][BL Unlocked]HTC Manager - Page 15 - xda-developers

Thanks for the info! I was hoping that wasn't the case, but after trying all methods I could with no luck, I'm thinking this is the case. Bummer.... Was an active member here (under a different username) years back, but am now realizing android development is quite a bit more complicated.... Will stay tuned to the thread at XDA in hopes of a fix or workaround.....

Thanks again!

Luke

Can't say whether this will work for sure, but I have the WFS device that gets frozen on CWM recovery...

edit: tried to post a link to the solution (my post @ xda-developers) but the forum rules don't permit me.

Essentially, your CWM recovery works, but is not sending any output to the display. As such, you can't root your device.

These are the steps you have to follow:
1. Unlock your bootloader via HTCDEV.
Mine was UNLOCKED, with S-ON, running the latest Android 2.3.5.

2. Install custom boot.img, recovery.img, and system.img from one of the links I will provide at a later post. You'll have Gingerbread 2.3.5, just not the latest release, but still excellent. These images do not permit OTA updates, so you'll be stuck with them, unless you load your own.

You will need to boot your phone into BOOTLOADER, then FASTBOOT, connect via USB to a computer, and then run some commands from the console to load up the images to the device.

3. Use HTC SuperTool v3 to root your device.

Voila!

4. Now you can install ROM Manager via the Google Play store, which will allow you to install CWM Recovery 5.0.2.8, and then allows you to install a custom ROM from the app itself, without having to boot into RECOVERY.

Essentially, you donwload the custom ROM, put it on the SD Card, tell the app (ROM Manager) to install a custom ROM from SD Card. It will automate all those steps for you, so even if your screen is black at RECOVERY, it doesn't matter, it's doing what is needed.

I tested with WildChild 2.0 successfully, but did not get CyanogenMod 7.2 or 9.0 to work.

In any case, at least you'll have a rooted device.

Thanks a lot.... will try later as I am sick and have no desire to increase my headache at this time (literally).... Will post back if this worked once I've had the chance to try again

Well, after flashing the images, I am unable to reboot the phone at all! I am now completely stuck at the white background, green htc letters splash screen.

Now I really need some help...

I think you should have upgraded to Android 2.3.5. before unlocked. Did you try that?
After unlocked the Bootloader, did you try on HTC SuperToolv3 ?.(This one was helped me to ROOT my device!)
But now I think you are completely struck on boot.

Go to HBOOT and do a Factory reset, replace battery and clear all related files copied on SDcard(if anything).

Try now using Fastboot commands to flash system.img, boot.img and recovery.img to get back the boot-up & working first. But be careful to choose the right files from PG76IMG.zip, since your device is Marvelc.

I hope, You would have installed already SDK for Android, Jave runtime and HTC Sync. Sometimes HTC Sync may cause conflicts, so remove it from the Task Manager(Not the driver files).

Once you go thru, then post back....

Hope this maybe useful.

Yes, I have SDK for Android, Jave runtime and HTC Sync driver files... How do I factory reset through hboot if everything I select in HBoot gets me stuck on splash screen? I will try to upgrade to 2.3.5, but should I relock the bootloader before doing this? And what images should I use now to restore back to get a working phone at this point so I can start from there???

And yes, I did use supertool which said I was rooted after unlocking bootloader....

Thanks for all your help guys!!

If anyone is still reading this, I was able to get rooted (finally)!

The only way I was able to get out of the looping or frozen boot screens was to (immediately upon powering phone on) plug in usb cable which only then showed drivers being installed.... Yes, I had supposedly all of the drivers installed but was still stuck. This was the only way I figured out to get my phone to completely boot, which ultimately let me root and install CWM!! Maybe it's not revolutionary to some, but indeed was to me after working on this for the past 6 days lol....

**Still can't boot into CWM recovery module, whether through fastboot or bootloader options. I am rooted, but obviously can't flash any ROM's without the recovery module options!**

Thanks to all who offered their help (and did to some degree)!
Good luck to those having issues rooting, etc... I know it can be maddening!!

Try now installing CWM from ROM Manager...

Maybe I wasn't clear enough in the post above you... I have definitely installed Rom Manager and tried flashing CWM recovery through there (many times)... I can't see the CWM recovery module, just reboots to the HTC logo then boots as normal.... I have tried every possible solution I could find out there to rectify....

Thanks though

You may have one of the later phones (as I do), where there's a problem with CWM Recovery.

Your only choice is to use ROM Manager to load ROM images (instead of using CWM recovery).

So, if you want to install WildChild 2.0, for example, download the image, put on your SD Card, then go into ROM Manager, and select the option to install a ROM from SD Card. It will automate the rest. You just wait.

Hmmm Have you tried that method? does it work? I have a friend that has the same problem and wants to flash cm 9 but he's scared of trying it and if it fails, he won't have any backup

Just enable 'Fastboot' on phone settings menu, reboot then go to ROM Manager, flash recovery. Might work....

Thanks guys!

Yes, I have tried doing it via these methods.... Same thing.... phone still shows htc screen then re-boots with all the virgin mobile crap like normal.... ugh...

I think you have the same problem as muckz

I'm thinkin so too...

I initially wanted to root for the extra space with llink2sd, so I guess I did accomplish that!!

It would be nice though, to flash other ROM's!

Thanks for all the help guys, I'll let you know if I am able to come up with something to enable me to flash ROM's (or if I can get recovery to work even)... :hmmmm:

Just posted on XDA regarding the superflasher tool, which had a different recovery module (marvelc-twrp22.img) which allowed me to finally enter recovery and flash a rom!!

My post over there stated "
Some devices have a problem with cwm as it does not work. Only the white HTC screen comes (I'm not talking about the black screen). Now do you think this would be an alternative to cwm? Would it work?
Just tried this with a flash of the MarvelCTWRP22.img recovery file (provided in SuperFlasher.zip) which FINALLY allowed me to boot into recovery and flash a ROM!!
My only problem is that I am getting a:
"Sorry!
The application Nemus Launcher (process com.nemustech.launcher) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again"
error
This will not allow me to do anything, though I am finally able to flash ROM's....
Please advise, thanks in advance!!

Also, flashed ROM is WC 2.0 De-Odexed
Thanks again,
Luke"

Hope this helps someone with the same issues to enable flashing of custom ROM's (Muckz, I think we are in the same boat)...

So it does work huh...I'll tell my friend to try it out. But what do you mean it's not allowing you to do anything?
