Has anyone seen this interesting read on SlashGear.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the choice to use a TFT display on the EVO. Pretty interesting, and perhaps damaging claim against the AMOLED technology. Basically it states that the true resolution of an AMOLED display is less than the stated res because of the way it displays RGB pixels.

Ars Technica has an excellent technical write-up about it. Secrets of the Nexus One's screen: science, color, and hacks

After having one, I can definitely say that while the colors can be more vibrant, there are definite drawbacks to the technology. A high quality LCD is still a very good choice for display technology.

However, the new Galaxy phone from Samsung with the "Super AMOLED" looks breathtaking, so I wonder if it uses the same technology. We just need someone to get their hands on it and put it through the paces as well.

I think they left off amoled to keep the price out of the stratosphere. It is still a relatively expensive screen technology.

extended batt. for HTC HD2

HTC HD2 extended battery with kick stand coming next month | Phone-Review.org

People with standard batt. 1320? mAh in HTC HD2 claim it won't last 6 hrs. if using the phones features.

Imagine using all the EVO features... Bigger batt. = more weight and thicker phone at 1500 mAh. They claim phones last about the same with the bigger EVO batt. but I don't see it.

It might sound like I"m painting a negative picture about the phones batt. life but if you do a little research, you'll see it's the most avoided Q about this phone. Why ?

Either way, this is the only hope I"ve found of really using EVO during a normal day without charging or extra batt. packs, etc.

I just listened to a show talking about the HTC HD2 & EVO along with sprints Overdrive wifi hub and the guy who lives in a 4G area said his overdrive 1830 mAh Batt. on 4G last less than 2 hr. and 3 + hrs. on 3G. Wait a min. The overdrive hub batt is only powering wifi and supports less devices than the EVO which has 1500 batt.

How could you use the wifi on EVO while powering phone, running apps and think a smaller batt. than the overdrive would last 4-6 hr. or more ?

I'm picturing a back pack with high capacity marine type batt. or waist pack with external batt. while away from power source.

Extended Batt. : They claim it will double the batt. life...

If you increase batt. from 1500 to 2300 mAh, (35%) how do you get double the life.

I'm honestly fine for the most part even with my Pre which apparently has terrible battery life. I charge it overnight and then take it to work. Usually by 8 or 9 pm I have anywhere from 10-50% left depending on how much I used it. When I first got it and was constantly screwing around on it, I just kept my USB/MicroUSB plugged into my desk computer and whenever I sat down at my desk I would plug the phone in. That way whenever I got up to go do something I was topped off.

Until battery tech dramatically improves, this will be an issue with big touch screen phones with 2g/3g/4g/gps/bt/wifi radios. I just keep it topped off in the car and at the desk as well as overnight. If I really need it a lot and know I won't be near a charger, I bring a spare battery that I charged ahead of time.

I really hope they dont make us wait till Aug/Sept for this device. With the HD2 available for under $100 right now, I dont see how they could get away with it. HD2 is more and more tempting

the person who mentioned the hero and eris are right

verizon did release the eris shortly after the hero

hmmmm....if any word comes out about a version of the evo coming to verizon...I wouldn't mind an extra month or two of waiting

Anyone think the video camera will have some sort of image stabilization? I don't care how high def it is, it wont look good if its shaky!

I went to a T-mobile store yesterday to try out the HD2....just to get a little taste of what the Evo will be like. The screen is awesome!! It's huge!! The device itself is much smaller in person. It had a great feel to it. The Evo 4G is going to blow it out the water.

I'm thinking about doing the same thing this afternoon, I'm curious though... Did you act like you were actually interested in the hd2, or tell the rep that you were just checking it out so you can get a feel for what a sprint phone will be like? Every time I've been in a cell phone store they try to do a hard sell on me, and I tend to not lie, even if it's harmless. I'd imagine they wouldn't be too happy with people just coming in to fondle their phones with no intention of buying?

If they don't want people coming in to look at their phones then they shouldn't put them on display. There is no shame in it!

Alright, I think I'll be honest with them about why I'm there if they try a hard sell rather than lead them on, and if they haven't heard of the Supersonic I'd be glad to tell them everything about it!

I like the idea of being honest, but just because you walk into a store doesn't mean you have to give them you life's story or bra size. Not telling the clerk what your true intentions are doesn't make you a liar.

only problem is the hero was never an exclusive device, it wasn't a first on sprint device either, it launched in europe, sprint made a "similar look" hero, and verizon did the same...

i honestly don't see this phone being rushed to other carriers as well, which sucks cause that means that video conferencing my friends will have to wait a while but still, this IS a sprint exclusive phone, made not just for sprint, but their NETWORK, it'd be one thing if it were just a phone like the pre and could easily go to another carrier, but the EVO is a WiMax phone first, Sprint phone SECOND in my opinion... how is it going to utilize the FFC on verizon? the youtube HQ app over 3g? qik? alllll of the features specificaly designed for 4g?! it'll simply cripple an amazing phone to bring it to another carrier atm. maybe a year after launch it'll hit verizon when they have somewhat stable LTE, but i really don't see it happening before then

Not sure, Verizon has two Motorola phones in the works that both will sport 4.3" screens and run android (Mirage and Shadow). One will have a slideout keyboard (droid 2) and one will be in tablet form like the Evo. I think the incredible will come out as the nexus 1 with sense UI to appease those Verizon fans who want an HTC device with Sense UI and a large screen. I dont see them getting any HTC devices similar to the EVO in 2010.

Considering HTC and Sprint have been working together to create this device exclusively for Sprint since mid 2008...I just don't see it being available anywhere else. Not for a while at least.

the youtube HQ app over 3g? qik? alllll of the features specificaly designed for 4g?!

In fairness, I used Qik all the time 2 years ago on my Win Mobile phones. Likewise there are video streaming apps on the iPhone. The point is that it is much easier and more reliable on 4G. This phone will still be 3G for a lot of people so they can't exactly gimp it for 4G only. I live in a city that has had 4G since last winter but I as soon as I leave town for the weekend I don't want to lose functionality. Chances are these things are optimized for 4G but the phone will still be really nice on 3G. Remember, Sprint 3G still gets like 800k-1.5mb down on EVDO Rev. A so it's not like it's a super slouch regardless.
