My Samsung Galaxy S2 was working normally in my purse. Then I placed it in the baggy side pocket of my shorts to go outside. There was no impact, no water damage, nothing that I think would damage the phone-- except, in retrospect, it was 100 degrees outside.
When I got home a few hours later, the screen was black and the phone won't power on. My PC doesn't charge or recognize the device with the USB cable. (New battery doesn't power it on either.) I don't see any indication of sweat having affected the white water damage stickers, so I'm perplexed at what happened.
I still placed the phone in rice and also in the fridge, after searching forums and support pages for hours. I'm going to just assume the mainboard was overheated, but I wanted to find out if anyone knew specifically (on what internal hardware) where my data was stored.
I had my photos on an external card but I need my contacts and text messages I didn't get to backup-- a lot of info related to the funeral and family members I had collected for the widow before my phone decided to stop working.
If it is the mainboard/motherboard:
1. Can anyone tell me what "chip" the data is on?
2. Can the data can be retrieved if the defective segment of the board is replaced?
3. Can someone recommend how to do forensics on this phone if there's no way to diagnose exactly where on the board the problem exists? (That's how important these contacts and memos and text messages are to the family!)
Samsung and ATT told me to take it to their service center but their techs would merely replace the entire phone, not perform any data recovery.
If anyone can provide some suggestions on the matter, I'd greatly appreciate it.
