Help DIAG Drivers refuse to install!

I've been working on this for 3 hours now. My PRL won't update so I was going to do it manually through QPST. I downloaded HTC Sync to get all the drivers I needed and then I downloaded the HTC Diag drivers. For some reason, my computer (Windows 7 64-bit) will not even recognize the diag drivers. I've tried everything and it won't work. It always just installs all the other drivers except for the diag ones. The Diag drivers don't even show up in my device manager under "other devices", they just will not install.

i've been using this link with no help [How To] Retrieve MSL CDMA Workshop Method - xda-developers

I have tried it with debugging mode on and off, and I have tried going to the diag menu on my phone and reconnecting the phone to my pc. nothing works! so frustrating.

Try uninstalling htc sync, it should leave the drivers behind and hopefully allow you to install the diag drivers. The drivers work fine for me under xp and win7 32 bit. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply. I uninstalled HTC Sync and made sure that HTC Driver Installer was left behind. I then plugged in my phone and nothing happened.

Have you tried a manual install? It has beena while since i had to do it so I dont remember quite how, its left over from the old win xp.98 days but it can be done. As well if you have an admin account . For instance My account on my computer is an admin account but there is also the default admin account that may or may not show up on your login screen , it does on mine. I'm sorry I do not remember how to get it to show on the login screen but its prolly an option in CP >users or accounts. Give that a whirl, it has worked for me with other installs that would not go under my account.
I trust you did try right click> run as admin.
Hope this helps

I had the same issue. I ended up getting the msl code which u need anyway to get into diag mode (they fail to explain this step is a must and they don't explain u need the msl code) once u dial ##diag# and hit on it asks for code. Once you are successful the drivers will show up as they are supposed to. Even though it says u can do it without root u need to root to het ur msl code

How do you get the MSL Code? Everywhere I looked says it requires the Diag drivers to get the code.

Msl reader in the play store. It failed the first time, said my phone was unsupported, tried to again and I got my Msl code

I now assume you have to be rooted to install the diag drivers. Wish ANY of the dozens of links I tried to get info from would have made that clear. Guess there's no PRL updating for me.

Well the guide is in the all things root section.

Prerequisits:
You need to be Root and S-off.
Using the stock rom has been known to cause boot loops, and it is HIGHLY recommended that you install Harmonia or Midnight rom before you change the Hboot. Cm9, MIUI, etc. will not work as they are not Sense based and do not have a diagnostic mode.

4 paragraphs down over the red warning.
just sayin

You Don't have to be rooted to install the diag drivers, you do have to be rooted to get your msl and be able to use QPST to write values to your phone including the prl. No offense but before writing anything to your phone I personally would read every post in a topic to make sure that I fully understand what I'm trying to accomplish and any possible problems that might occur. $300 paperweights suck. ;-)

You dont have to be rooted to install Diag drivers. you also dont have to be rooted to read the MSL or run QPST to write Settings to the phone. or any other type of modem configuration. ie PRL, Data Settings, MMS.

and it is VERY HARD/near impossible to completely brick a phone while writing NV items. especially on Android phones that have a Recovery and Bootloaders that lets you flash a modem. its virtually impossible. don't try to scare this guy with your limited knowledge Mr.OverByter.

with that out of the way, OP i was also having troubles installing the Diag Drivers for the HTC EVO. Windows 7 64-bit.

lucky me had a HTC incredible Verizon that has a built-in installer for the drivers that actually worked. and here is that installer.

HTC Diag Drivers Win7x64.rar

hope this helps ya. :)

Well excuse my ignorance, I was unable to get MY msl before I rooted and after looking at the download in the market the author of msl reader specifically states that you have to be rooted to aquire your code.

I suppose you would have to be rooted if you use an Android app to get your MSL. but it would be way easier to just put the Phone into Diag mode. ##3424# and just use CDMA Workshop to Read it. no root needed that way.

Either way the Drivers are posted here that work for me on Win 7 x64.

The prl update worked like a charm. Directions are straight forward and now my connection is rocking & rolling. Once things I would like to know: Now that the Diag drivers are installed can I use my data connection as a modem to my pc? Thanks for the great tutorial. Y'all have a good weekend.
