does the nexus work in similar ways to a laptop/PC where you can login as different users on booting up? so if you've more than 1 google user in the house, everyone can have their own login/access.

i presume it would, but having not owned a tablet before, not sure how they work... i guess an ipad does the same too?

Nope, it would be a really useful feature as I'm sure our 12 year old will have mine more often than I do. But at the moment it's not officially an option. There are ways to do it but I believe they're awkward and difficult.

I think its wrong that you can't do this. Internet safety is paramount for kids and Android needs to pull its socks up and deliver this security. I'm not just talking dirty vids etc but my daughter watches fun vids on you tube and no doubt there is a risk of what else she can view!

Absolutely, there is no option for this on the iPad either. A phone is a much more personal thing and less likely to be shared. A tablet could be used by the whole family so it should allow multiple user accounts.

really? oh that is surprising!

so it's pretty much one tablet per google account holder (very clever! $$$)... so if I wanted to sync up my Google a/c on the Nexus, and the wife wanted to do the same, we'd need a tablet each...

I guess that makes sense in a way, it works in the similar way to a phone.

I agree, but you can install various apps that can lock individual apps with a password etc, so that you could prevent your kids using youtube or the internet browser without your permission.

If it is mainly email that you want to see, one of you could use the Gmail app and the other an app like K9 email.

You can log into multiple google accounts simaltaneously, but you'll be signed into all of them at once rather than switching around.

You can have more than one Gmail account registered and get emails from both in the notification tray. You can also have more than one twitter account, but only one for Facebook. As for the apps, only the app for the account registered to the N7 will show up. I've got a feeling it's not as easy as we think to allow this feature. Although it really would be useful and, counter intuitively, might sell a few more devices.

A way around the Facebook limitation is for one person to use the app and the other a browser. Or, you can both use different browsers and nobody use the app.

There are also third party facebook apps that support multiple accounts, like the third party twitter apps.

I wonder if there's a way to duplicate the chromebook setup where each person can log into their own chrome cloud. What we did was create a family gmail account. We share the fb app (not that I use that app, blech) by logging out and the next person logs into it with their own info. I agree that privacy is an issue.

If you knew anything about how windows works with multiple accounts you would realize how much of a headache it is to implement. But you could always back up your tablet and restore another user to it to switch users. Also not having it remember passwords would require you to sign in each time and prevent the other users from accessing your email.

Kids will always figure out to bypass restrictions. A lot of the answers on how to do so are never more than a Google search away.

How exactly do you make it not remember your email password? Are you talking about the email app, or are you talking about accessing email through a browser? (I use gmail primarily fwiw.)

Well I watched something on xda tv about this feature and it is possible to be done but I think that you need a rooted device. The best way to learn how to do this is the xda forums they are really helpful and knowledgeable and I have to bet that there is a step by step guide on how to do this.

It would depend upon how many tablet functions are tied into the Google account but you would just clear the password from the account setting and it should just prompt you for it whenever it needed it. Usually when it prompts you for a password there is usually an option to check off to remember the password. Just don't check it off. Of course the problem could be that each application has account settings stored in it locally and not in a common area of the operating system. This would make it very difficult to have all the account information change when you swapped users.

No other mobile OS does this, so its hardly Android "needing to pull its socks up".
Interestingly it would seem that android *might* be heading this way though:
Android’s Multiple User Accounts Shown Off On Video – All But Confirmed For Future Versions of Android

Youtube has a age filter does it not ?
Google search also has filters on searches that can be set.

I can't find an option for this. Thanks anyway, I appreciate your help. My family shares this tablet with a main family gmail address.

Great find: yesterday I added my own personal gmail address for a little while and realized that I can use the Google talk app just fine as a second account. Usually the Google talk will only allow one main account and no extras.

It's hard sharing a tablet. Why do I get the feeling millions of kids across North America and Canada are going to get one of these babies for Christmas and Hannukah? I can't find the "don't save my password" option for gmail but it is very easy to simply remove the account. I don't have anything to hide, but would prefer my kids not to be able to read through all my emails!

When I installed groove IP, I found that having the Google voice app was not enough, or even necessary, for having contacts. I would have to log into e-mail to see my contacts & their numbers. Big pain. I just want to recommend the Soocial app as a work around to this. Soocial will sync your gmail contacts to your Google voice. You don't have to be signed in to either your gmail or voice app to get the groove IP to work, if you use Soocial.
